- American DJ, producer, and musician who started his career at a number of clubs in New York City in the mid-1970s then moved to Chicago and became the DJ at the legendary Warehouse in 1977, the club where the foundations of house music were laid. Knuckles used his own remixes of old disco records on reel-to-reel tape recorders; he sampled original Salsoul and Philadephia International recordings and mixed in other rhythm tracks and occasionally drum-machine rhythms he programmed himself. Patrons who heard him called his sound house music after the Warehouse club name. In 1982 he established the Power Plant, where he continued to develop house music.
- First-ever Grammy award-winner for Remixer of the Year (now called Best Remixed Recording).
