Chris Pratt has traded in his plumber uniform for something with a little more fur in the first trailer for Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment’s The Garfield Movie.
The famous lasagna-loving cat is back with Pratt as the man behind the whiskers in this nearly three-minute look (below) at the movie based on Jim Davis’ famous Garfield comic series.

The trailer teases a tail of an abandoned kitten fighting to survive on the streets until he sees Jon Arbuckle, a lonely man eating a pizza, through a restaurant window.

Chris Pratt’s plot to dominate the world of iconic characters continues in the wake of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” with the first trailer for “The Garfield Movie,” in which the “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor voices the titular gluttonous cat.
The trailer opens with something of a fake-out, as it sweetly chronicles the origin of Garfield and Andy’s relationship with the story of a lost little kitty cat who happens upon a lonely man at an Italian eatery. But soon after, shenanigans ensue, including those involving Garfield’s father Vic voiced by Samuel L. Jackson.
This is not the first time “Garfield” made the jump to the big screen. Bill Murray voiced the character in the 2004 film “Garfield: The Movie” and its sequel “A Tail of Two Kitties.”
The “Garfield” movie voice cast also includes Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nichoulas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang.

The new animated feature introduces new characters to comic creator Jim Davis’ universe, including Samuel L. Jackson as Vic, Garfield’s father. Both Pratt and Jackson have been honing their voice acting chops, with Jackson playing another animated cat in “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” and Pratt portraying Mario in “The Super Mario Bros. Once upon a time, there existed these things called newspapers that showed up at your door in the morning. Inside were news stories about politics, sports, health, and movie listings. They also included comic strips, aka the funny pages. Though the newspaper has gone the way of the dodo, for the most part, some of these comic strip characters still live in our imagination. One of them is a big orange tabby cat named Garfield, who hates mornings and Mondays, loves lasagna, is terrified of spiders, and bullies his doggie housemate Odie.
Even if you've never read a single Garfield comic in a newspaper, you've likely seen him in books, animated series, or films. This grumpy orange feline, created in 1978 by cartoonist Jim Davis, is hitting the big screen again in a new animated film adaptation from Alcon Entertainment. The world’s most famous fat cat is coming to theaters soon. “Garfield,” an animated film starring Chris Pratt as the famous Jim Davis comic strip character, will premiere in theaters Feb. 16, 2024.
In addition to Pratt, the film will also star Samuel L. Jackson as a brand-new character to the Garfield universe, Vic, who is the father of the orange feline. The plot that will bring Garfield’s father back into his life remains under wraps. Although no other cast members have been announced, the film will presumably feature classic characters from the franchise, including his owner Jon Arbuckle and dim-witted puppy Odie.
The animated movie represents the latest big screen outing for the iconic lasagna-loving misanthrope. Bill Murray famously voiced the character in two live-action and CGI-hybrid films, 2004’s “Garfield: The Movie” and its 2006 sequel “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.” The two films received largely negative reviews, but were both commercially successful.

The film will tell the true story of the mother of John Kennedy Toole (Pullman), the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Confederacy of Dunces. Toole died by suicide before finding a home for his masterpiece, and his mother Thelma (Bates) made it her life’s mission, through outrageous gamesmanship, to see the book published. She eventually succeeded in getting the manuscript into the hands of writer Walker Percy (Malkovich), who became the novel’s champion. It would be published in 1980, eleven years after Ken’s death, thereafter becoming a widely celebrated cult classic.

Finally, a Monday that Garfield can feel good about. On the lasagna-loving cat’s least favorite day of the week, Chris Pratt has been set to voice the famous feline in a new animated feature film.
Alcon Entertainment is producing the movie, with Sony Pictures on board to release Garfield’s latest adventure in theaters globally (excluding China). A release date will be announced at another time.
Though plot details haven’t been confirmed, the movie draws inspiration from the long-running comic strip created by cartoonist Jim Davis. The exploits of the cynical and lazy orange cat Garfield, his owner Jim Arbuckle and fellow pet Odie have appeared in more than 2,580 newspapers and journals since the comic strip first debuted in June 1978. Garfield currently holds the record for being the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world.
The still-untitled project will be written by David Reynolds (“Finding Nemo”) and directed by Mark Dindal.

An ambitious scheme to make the Mexican region of Jalisco the production capital of Latin America, a Jallywood so to speak, has launched with the introduction of a new state film law.
“We want to send a clear message that with or without federal help or despite the federal government, we pledge to direct more resources towards the state’s audiovisual industry,” declared Jalisco governor Ernesto Alfaro at a press conference in late October. Alfaro lamented the government’s severe cuts to federal funds supporting a range of industries, including Mexico’s audiovisual sector. “If there was corruption, then clean it up, penalize, but don’t sweep it all away,” he asserted.
Among the law’s myriad objectives is the introduction of financial and fiscal incentives to foster investment in audiovisual projects in Jalisco.

How did Kiss Me Deadly come to be restored? The real question should be, how did filmdom lose track of its original ending in the first place? Savant uncovers evidence that may explain when, and why, United Artists mutilated the finish of Robert Aldrich’s apocalyptic film noir.
(Note: The images below with text can be enlarged for reading, just click on them.)
Before home video the final home for Hollywood films was Television. Robert Aldrich’s 1955 Kiss Me Deadly never saw a theatrical reissue, and it dropped out of major TV visibility in 1962. I saw the documentation in United Artists’ legal folder on the film. To secure capital to launch more movies, Robert Aldrich sold all of his ‘Associates and Aldrich’ pictures back to UA after their original releases were concluded. More papers showed Kiss Me Deadly being included in at least two TV syndication packages, and then each time pointedly removed.

Crack out the lasagna; The Hollywood Reporter brings words that a Garfield animated movie has found a home at Alcon Entertainment, the studio currently presiding over Denis Villeneuve’s long-gestating sequel, Blade Runner 2.
Circling back to the strip-based comic that first made its bow back in 1978, before shooting to success throughout the ’80s, THR notes that Alcon has struck a deal with Jim Davis – creative mind behind the rotund feline – who will serve as executive producer on the finished movie. It’s understood Alcon is eyeing a bona fide series of CG films based around the endearing and indeed conniving cat, along with his adventures with Jon Arbuckle and Odie, the clueless dog that fast become an easy form of entertainment for the mischievous Garfield.
Of course, Garfield has made a pass at the big screen before, most notably with Peter Hewitt’s live-action movie that had The Jungle Book...
