Coronation Street producers are to introduce the soap's first ever lesbian character. Bosses had originally intended barmaid Violet Wilson - played by Jenny Platt before she left the Manchester-based soap earlier this year - to be gay when she joined in 2004. Ex-Corrie actor to guest star in 'The Bill'

Former Coronation Street actor Rupert Hill is to guest star in The Bill.

The 29-year-old, who played Jamie Baldwin in the ITV1 soap, will appear in the upcoming four-part special 'Gun Runner'.

He will take the role of Kieran Wallace, a dangerous thug who is part of a gun-running gang which Sergeant Smithy (Alex Walkinshaw) must infiltrate in a bid to take guns off the streets.
