A survivor of the Baja California accident that claimed the lives of actors Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González from the Netflix series “The Chosen One” says he doesn’t blame the van driver or the production company. But actor Yeray Albelda says it’s the norm that “people are exhausted” in many productions.
The Mexican actors union Anda also held a remote press conference Tuesday to weigh in on the fatal crash.
In an interview with Variety, Albelda, one of the six survivors of the crash, said he was told that a mechanical failure might have caused it. Others, he was told, have speculated that the driver was trying to avoid a pothole or even a deer. No official report has been filed yet.
“For sure, long days and nights are the norm in most productions, people are exhausted,” Abelda said.
Sources close to the production have confirmed that filming has resumed.

Mexico’s film industry appears healthy, but the question is for how long. In 2019, Mexican president Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador decimated festival funding. There’s a fear that, as the economy contracts, so will its tax credits, the main source of film sector finance, says Pimienta’s Nicolas Celis, a producer on “Roma.”
Such fears have seen the country’s top producers re-engineering operations: many, such as Piano, Woo Films, Pablo Cruz at Canana and El Estudio have moved into TV production. Some, such as Panorama, have launched more commercial, Ott platform-friendly slates.
Companies are also aiming to tap more regular international co-financing, such as Pimienta’s first-look deal with Exile and Endeavor Content, while Piano has expanded into Colombia and Germany and El Estudio has launched bases in Los Angeles and Madrid.
Above all, many are looking to produce with top talent inside and outside Mexico. Piano’s slate...

Outburst after outburst, toil after toil, and Mel Gibson incredulously plods on, albeit in less familiar forms. His last film, the criminally underrated The Beaver, was a box office flop, likely not just for its peculiar premise, but due to Gibson’s much-publicised – and seemingly never-ending – array of personal demons. That his latest film, How I Spent My Summer Vacation, did not even secure American theatrical distribution – instead opting for the Video-on-Demand route earlier this month – is a worrying sign for the actor’s career, but controversy aside, pound-for-pound, he can still spit expletives and shoot guns with the best of his caste.
No matter the criticisms people will have of Gibson the man, Gibson the actor will never be criticised for half-assing his way through an assignment. That the first sight we see of the actor is him decked out in a clown outfit, fleeing...

Get the Gringo is a gritty action film with a dark sense of humor and a terrific performance from a grizzled Mel Gibson. The film features Gibson spending his summer vacation in a Mexican prison, dropping the occasional sarcastic quip, and killing lots of bad guys . or at least guys that are a little more on the shady side of the law than his character. Directed by Adrian Grunberg (who co-wrote the screenplay with Gibson and Stacy Perskie), the film has a stripped down barebones look to its production value and cinematography work which helps sell its dark story. With Gibson providing voiceover narration and playing a character that is more than a little hard for...

Chicago – Originally titled “How I Spent My Summer Vacation,” Mel Gibson’s latest star vehicle is taking an unusual road to your viewing pleasure, bypassing theatrical release and even skipping Blu-ray/DVD for a debut this week on DirecTV On Demand. Is this the new delivery system of the future? The new way to watch movies that, for whatever reason, couldn’t make it to the multiplex? It’s too soon to tell but a technology like this is going to need a surprisingly-good flick to draw viewers to it. “Get the Gringo” is not a surprising flick in any way, unless you find mediocrity surprising.

The movie Get the Gringo premiered in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar last Wednesday night, followed by a special Q&A with producer and star Mel Gibson (seen above on the red carpet), young actor Kevin Hernandez, director Adrian Grunberg and producer Stacy Perskie. What made this Q&A moderated by Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News so special was that it was streamed live to audiences in nine other cities that viewed a simultaneous screening of the film along with Austin. Audience members were able to submit questions directly to Knowles via the internet.
In Get the Gringo, Gibson portrays Driver, a career criminal who is nabbed by corrupt Mexican police and then hidden away in a tough prison where he must learn to survive through his own street smarts along with the help of a 9-year-old boy and a not so reputable U.S. Consulate representative.

Mel Gibson's alleged anti-Semitic comments might not be a laughing matter to most people, but the "Braveheart" star tried to make light of the controversy swirling around him during a question-and-answer session for his new movie "Get the Gringo" Wednesday night anyway. After Grunberg noted that he is Jewish, "Gringo" co-screenwriter/producer Stacy Perskie -- who is from Mexico -- noted that he, too,...

After sitting on the shelf and collecting dust for the past two years, the first trailer for Mel Gibson’s latest actioner ‘Get the Gringo’ has finally got its first trailer. The movie was originally called How I Spent My Summer, and with the way the trailer flowed it should have stuck with that title. But the movie is called Get the Gringo, and from the looks of things looks pretty decent. The film was written by Gibson, with cowriting and directing credits going to Adrian Grunberg. Stacy Perskie produced.
You can check out the first trailer to Get the Gringo below. Thanks to TheFilmStage for the embed.
Looking at the trailer, the movie looks like it can be a fun actioner filled with some comedic punches. But the latter seems to disappear into the wayside halfway through as the trailer gets more serious when we find out more about Gibson’s character.

Now that Mel Gibson is finally back in action with last weekend's “Edge of Darkness,” some fans might be wondering why the dude took seven years off after his last starring role in 2002’s “Signs.” Others might be asking if we’re going to see Mel in front of the camera again before the year 2016.
According to the “Lethal Weapon” legend, the answer will be on the big screen before too long – as he’s about to begin work on a new film.

Scheduled to begin shooting in the Mexican city of Veracruz this March, the flick is about a fugitive (Gibson) caught by the Mexican authorities and thrown in jail. He winds up in a dirty, drug-infested prison where a 9-year-old boy has to teach him how to survive.

Lately, there seems to be plenty of news in Hollywood surrounding two men: Mel Gibson or Leonardo DiCaprio. And in one case, both of them. But, this post is about Gibson and his newest acting role which will probably take him right up to the time before he gets started on his Viking project with DiCaprio.
How I Spent My Summer Vacation will star Mel as a career criminal who finally gets caught in Mexico. There, he’s sent to a prison and learns to survive with the help of a 9 year old boy. The movie is based off of a script that Gibson wrote and will be directed by Adrian Grunberg, the 1st Assistant Director of his most recent film Apocalypto.
The movie kind of sounds like Empire of the Sun meets The Shawshank Redemption, although I’m sure it’ll be far more gritty and violent than either of those movies combined.
