For over half a century, Scooby Doo and his friends have been a staple of cartoons, as well as, for a time, in live action adventures on the big screen. Now, the talking dog and pals are back in Scoob!, which is part origin story, part adventure tale (no pun intended). How does the animated canine function in CGI? Well, pretty good, actually. This is a fun, sometimes strange, and even emotionally satisfying movie. What could have been stale and recycled never comes off as such. The film just offers up some good family friendly fun. Especially these days, and at this specific moment, what more can you ask for? The film is a new Scooby Doo adventure, while also functioning as an origin story for the Mystery Inc. group that children of all ages have adored. As a boy, Norville “Shaggy” Rogers (voice of Will Forte) is a lonely kid,...

Blame it on “The Avengers.” Or better yet, “Justice League.” Those superheroes are so popular with audiences that Hollywood studios got it in their heads that the world wants to see “expanded universe” movies — unwieldy ensemble productions that bring together half a dozen or more stand-alone characters for a single umbrella adventure. Marvel and DC team-ups make a certain sense, since those super-friends frequently pool their powers in comic book form as well, but not so other brands, and though a handful of movies were greenlit under the strategy — including Universal’s “Bride of Frankenstein” and Warners’ “Godzilla vs. Kong” — they’re burning out or disbanding one by one.
That leaves WB’s computer-animated “Scoob!” looking awkwardly out of touch in several ways. First, it’s a pricey feature adaptation of a classic TV show that, because of the coronavirus outbreak, will instead be debuting via streaming — doomed to a small-screen fate.

For the juggernaut that is Pixar, the one consistent mark on an otherwise essentially spotless record has been the Cars franchise. Give or take one or two other outings that some people are higher on than others, this franchise is the only thing keeping the company from essentially a perfect record. This week, Cars 3 hits theaters and hopes to right the ship as it becomes part of a trilogy. Cars has a mixed reputation, but Cars 2 is Pixar’s somewhat red headed stepchild. Can Cars 3 change the trend? Well, yes and no. It’s going to be the best in the series to some or most, but it’s still very much lesser Pixar overall. I suppose your mileage may vary here (no pun intended) with this one. This sequel looks at how racer Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) deals with no longer being the new kid on the block.

It’s been a wild ride so for in the 2016 playoffs. After a wild overtime win that sent the Arizona Cardinals that much closer to an NFL championship, and the Patriots holding on against the Chiefs, today’s matchup of the Seattle Seahawks taking on the Carolina Panthers had the making of a historic matchup. However, that’s certainly not how things went, at first. Seattle, who is known for their ridiculously amazing defense couldn’t do a think to hold Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart who rushed for nearly 100 yards and 2 TDs in the first half. The second match-up of the NFL's three-game Thanksgiving slate was already likely to be the best tilt of the day: the undefeated Panthers are in Dallas to face America's Team, the Cowboys, whose rapidly unraveling season was given a new lease on life, sort of, by the return last week of quarterback Tony Romo from a broken left clavicle. The combination of perfect record and comeback narrative makes that a far better game than the festival of irrelevance between the Eagles and Lions at 12:30, and arguably a more interesting one than the Packers-Bears match-up at 8:30—at least in terms of on-field action. When you factor in off-field activity, however, the Panthers ran away with the day. The video above is by Carolina running back Jonathan Stewart, and features him with teammates Luke Kuechly, Fozzy Whittaker, Ben Jacobs, and Greg Olsen doing their best Adele. What do Dr. Seuss and Obamacare have in common? Well, Sen. Ted Cruz is on a mission to defund the latter with the help of the former. Yesterday, the Tea Party Texas lawmaker took to the Senate floor and did not stop talking for 21 hours in an attempt to stop the implementation of the Affordable Care Act on Oct. 1. His plan was convoluted. See, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would prevent a looming government shutdown only if Obamacare is defunded. That bill is headed to the Democratically controlled Senate, where the anti-Obamacare provision will likely be removed. Cruz's mission was to stop the Senate from doing so. He said unless the Democrats keep it in, "I intend to speak until I cannot stand." During his marathon session, which ended Wednesday morning, Cruz read bedtime stories to his daughters, including an impassioned rendition of Green Eggs and Ham,...

Twilight star Robert Pattinson was a hit with the ladies and Jon Stewart when he appeared on 'The Daily Show” on Tuesday night. Pattinson was greeted by hoards of female fans screaming - and some even crying - as they saw the English heartthrob take the stage. Stewart, reacting to the women's screeches joked, "Ladies, there’s plenty of J. Stew to go around!" Pattinson told Stewart that he has become accustomed to the out of control adoration his fans bestow upon him and said, "you can just ignore it. After a while it becomes part of your day." Although he did say he was glad his fans didn't find out where he was staying while in New York promoting his upcoming movie "Remember Me," also starring Pierce Brosnan.
