The Mean Street for this Martin Scorsese picture is Wall Street. His show pushes the hard- R rating to depict the wild life and times of a stock-selling pirate who bilks investors for millions that fuel a ten-year spree of obscene consumption, Bad Boy decadence and absurd levels of sex and drug abuse. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort beautifully, surrounded by a corps of terrific players (including Margot Robbie) given clear characters by Terence Winter and superb direction by Scorsese. The surprise is that the show is not a facile take-down of the American Dream. Screaming greed is the lure and the joke’s on us. Co-starring Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, Jon Favreau, Jean Dujardin and Joanna Lumley.

The film follows self-proclaimed occult expert Dr. Steven Caramore (Johnson), who ekes out a living debunking claims of possession, haunting and anything supernatural for a quick buck. Light spoilers What can we say about Sunday’s twisted finale of Berlin Station that won’t anger fans who hate spoilers and those who want no speculation about the action to unfold? Let’s begin by sharing a pretty ambiguous exclusive clip where a phone call between Steven Frost (Richard Jenkins) and Hector Dejean (Rhys Ifans) appears odd and stilted. Hector plays coy about his whereabouts, but why and more importantly, what does he know? What does he remember? The finale promises heart-pounding moments for Sofia Vesik (Katarina Cas), who aims to restore Estonia’s power grid while April Lewis (Keke Palmer) is […]

On the Sunday episode of Berlin Station, the death of Henrik has ignited the action and pace of the story. We open with Leland Orser’s Robert Kirsch trepidatiously exiting his shower quite certain someone has attempted to enter and break into his apartment. Clearly, he is spooked and this is because he was the one the Russians figured out was given the DNA sample that Daniel Miller had secured before they dramatically parted ways in the train station last week. Cut to: Beautiful, social media savvy and politically relevant, Sofia Vesik (Katarina Cas) who Daniel Miller seeks out. But she wants to know, […]

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the film's publicity arm. Directed by: Dejan Zecevic Writers: Barry Keating, Milan Konjevic. Cast: Ken Foree, Katarina Cas, Monte Markham and Dragan Micanovic. With the Eastern Bloc defunct, more and more films are coming out of Eastern Europe nowadays. The Rift bills itself as Serbia's first science fiction film. But, the film sets itself amongst a number of genres. It is essentially a mystery. There are strong elements of action here, as well. When the dead come back to life, there will be gunfire, especially with longtime horror vet' Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, 1978) starring. The soundtrack is a bit overwhelming; it bounces between instrumentals, rock music and a few other styles. Meanwhile, the film's story covers existentialist themes. This viewer wondered if the film was trying to answer the question: what if Jesus wore a spacesuit? Overall,...

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists has announced the nominees for their 2015 Eda Awards recognizing the amazing work done by and about women -- both in front and behind the camera. According to their site, "the EDAs are named in honor of Awfj founder Jennifer Merin.s mother, Eda Reiss Merin, a stage, film and television actress whose career spanned more than 60 years. A dedicated foot soldier in the industry, Eda was one of the founders of AFTRA and a long-standing Member of AMPAS."
Todd Haynes' "Carol" led the pack with nine nominations, followed by "Mad Max: Fury Road" with six, "Room" and "Spotlight" with five each, and "The Martian" with four.
I wish I can vote for the Eda Awards because their Special Mention Awards are just too darn fun with categories like "Best Nudity," and "Actress Most In Need of a New Agent!"

Stars: Al Pacino, Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner, Bobby Cannavale, Christopher Plummer, Katarina Cas, Giselle Eisenberg, Melissa Benoist, Josh Peck, Brian Smith, Scott Lawrence | Written and Directed by Dan Fogelman
It is fair to say that Al Pacino has made some questionable decisions as to what movies he has starred in recently. With Danny Collins though he reminds us just how charming he can be, in a movie about reclaiming lost life…. Inspired by a true story, Al Pacino plays Danny Collins an aging 1970s rocker who keeps himself going through the use of coke and alcohol. When his manager and best friend Frank (Christopher Plummer) uncovers a 40-year-old undelivered letter to Danny from John Lennon, it inspires Danny to look back on his life and to his roots. In visiting his home town though and seeking out his family, he may not like what he finds.

Is it ever too late to change directions? To mend broken fences, even build new ones? These are the main themes and ideas in the new release that’s being sold as a cutesy look at a mature “quirky” character, a chance to watch some screen vets grabbing some laughs at the expense of their Aarp status. But it goes much deeper than that. The past is not so easily erased and no “free passes” are issued. Oddly something from the long ago past is the catalyst for the title character’s turn-around. Kudos for the film makers for admitting in the post-opening title card that this isn’t a strictly adhered “inspired by true events” work. This gives them much more license for that humor provided by a screen icon now in his fifth decade of stardom. That’s reason enough to make the movie’s title his character’s name,...

Dan in Real Life: Fogelman’s Sugary Directorial Debut Hobbles its Own Charms
Screenwriter and producer Dan Fogelman makes a high profile directorial debut with Danny Collins, nabbing a handful of high profile names to lead his glossy family issue drama wrapped in melodramatic showbiz antics. When he’s not writing directly for children and family friendly audiences (Cars; Bolt; Tangled), Fogelman’s screenplays are often gilded with jejunish countenances (The Guilt Trip; Last Vegas), the types of outrageous yet uncomplicated cinematic fabrications that hail from some medicated hinterland beyond the realm of mere escapism. His first stint as a director finds him returning to this hypertrophic mode of drama wherein potentially insurmountable life tragedies get mushed together to equal one big positive, though kernels of authentic emotions sometimes shine through the contrivances.

After a relatively normal reveal of Leonardo DiCaprio as stockbroker Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese’s next project, it looks like the supporting characters are playing things a little differently. Production on The Wolf of Wall Street has been underway for a few weeks now and today we’ve got our first look at Jonah Hill, coming off an Oscar nomination for Moneyball and sporting some funky ’80s clothing and fake teeth as Danny Porush, best friend and business partner to our lead.
Then we’ve got a sickly looking Matthew McConaughey as Mark Hanna, who is Belfort’s boss early on his career and a mentor. Perhaps they will beef him up a bit in post-production, cause his current weight loss is actually for an upcoming drama titled The Dallas Buyer’s Club, where he plays a victim of AIDS and struggles to live through non-approved drugs. We just got a mountain of details on Martin Scorsese‘s wild-sounding drama The Wolf of Wall Street and now, with production kicking off, our first look at star Leonardo DiCaprio has arrived. The crew started work early this morning only a few blocks from where Christopher Nolan shot part of The Dark Knight Rises last year.
We can see DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort in the true story of his downfall in the financial sector in both photos and video, as well as Cristin Milioti playing his first wife Denise. In the video one can also see cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, longtime collaborator with Alejandro González Iñárritu, who Scorsese opted to work with instead of his usual Robert Richardson (who won an Oscar last year for his Hugo work). Check out the video and images below via Olv/Tumblr, with one snap of Scorsese included.

We brought you some minor details this morning; now, it’s time for the motherload. BusinessInsider managed to snag Terrence Winter‘s screenplay for The Wolf of Wall Street, which, by now, you surely know Martin Scorsese will imminently begin directing with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. So, you also know it’ll be a pretty great time.
Their report only further emboldens this belief, with the screenplay having everything from Gene Hackman‘s potential return to sex on piles of money. The film starts off with the former — though not the former doing the latter — who narrates a commercial for Jordan Belfort’s firm, Stratton-Oakmont, which is accompanied by classical music and shots of “a conservative group of smiling ethnically diverse actors surrounding their young chairman Jordan Belfort.”

With shooting kicking off this weekend in New York City for The Wolf of Wall Street, it’s certainly time to celebrate we’ll be getting another Martin Scorsese film quite soon. We’ve known the basic gist of the true-life story of crime in the financial sector and the downfall of one of its top workers, Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), but now some more details are coming in.
NY Daily News are reporting that DiCaprio and co-star Jonah Hill were seen brushing up for their roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch near Bryant Park earlier this week as the former shadowed a stock trader and the latter followed a “a lower-level, yet successful derivative sales associate.” But besides that common occurrence, we also got some more details on the 1980′s time period Scorsese is capturing, as a source says, “there will be a lot of nudity and cocaine...

Alright, alright, alright. Few actors have had such a 180-degree career turn than Matthew McConaughey, and that’s just this year. The actor, known for few a great roles but mostly a rom-com lead, has taken a stellar path as of late, and it’s about to get better. We’ve seen him in the hilarious, perfectly cast role of club owner in Magic Mike, soon after he premiered Jeff Nichol‘s Mud and Lee Daniel‘s The Paperboy at Cannes. Then we have Richard Linklater‘s modest indie hit Bernie and William Friedkin‘s demented Killer Joe. Now the actor is jumping aboard one of the most-anticipated films of next year.
Deadline reports he has joined the film as Mark Hanna, boss and mentor of Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. He joins an already-stacked cast including Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Kyle Chandler, Cristin Milioti, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal,...

It might very well be my most anticipated film of next year, so excuse me if any casting item gets my immediate attention. But when the lineup is this eclectic and potential-filled? You’d be a fool to complain.
Next up for Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street is Max Hoffman (you might know his father); the actor will play famous shoe designer, Steve Madden, who must have helped Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) look good as he stole your money. And, boy, will Belfort be doing a lot of that[Deadline]

To celebrate release of the Anglo-Irish comedy-thriller The Guard, starring Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle and Mark Strong, released nationwide on August 19, we’ve teamed up with Optimum Releasing to offer four lucky readers the chance to win a comedy DVD boxset of In The Loop, Four Lions & Perrier’s Bounty.
Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) is a small-town cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) to his door. However, despite the fact that Boyle seems more interested in mocking and undermining Everett than in actively working to solve the case, he finds that circumstances keep pulling him back into the thick of it.
First his tiresomely enthusiastic new partner McBride disappears, then his favourite hooker attempts to blackmail him into turning a blind eye,...

Brendan Gleeson, who plays Alastor .Mad Eye' Moody in Harry Potter, and Hotel Rwanda star Don Cheadle will team up to take on an international drug smuggling operation in director John Michael McDonagh's pic, The Guard.
Gleeson is set to play Seargeant Gerry Boyle, an unorthodox Irish policeman who joins up with unrelenting FBI Agent Wendell Everett, played by Cheadle. Boyle's confrontational personality along with a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, and a penchant for prostitutes leaves him with little interest in the global cocaine smuggling operation that brings Everett to his door.
The film, which also stars Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham, Fionnula Flanagan, David Wilmot, Rory Keenan, Pat Shortt and Katarina Cas, has just started principal photography in the West of Ireland.
