X-Men: The Animated Series became a ’90s sensation in part because it so faithfully translated the stories of X-Men comics into Saturday morning cartoon form. That included not only classic storylines such as “Days of Future Past,” “Broodfall,” and more recently “Inferno” on X-Men ’97, but also bringing in even deep cut characters.
At the center of the show was an all-star lineup, mostly consisting of the Blue Squad in the Jim Lee-driven comic series X-Men, with Wolverine, Cyclops, and Beast alongside Gold Squad transplants Jean Grey and Storm. But the real pleasure of the show came not from the good guys, but from the baddies, the many wonderful weirdos that the series brought from the comics into animated form. While that rogues’ gallery includes lesser-known greats like Mojo and fan-faves like the Nasty Boys, these 10 stand out as the best of the worst in the X-Men: The Animated Series universe…...

Stepping into Westeros, the fictional fantasy world created by George R.R. Martin, is something that some can only dream of. But for actor Abubakar Salim, who will play Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon’s upcoming second season, this dream is already becoming a reality. Season 2 is set to introduce several new characters as the Targaryen civil war escalates beyond King’s Landing and Dragonstone, and among those is Salim’s Alyn, a character with deep ties to the Velaryons and old Valyria, and whose future has the potential to extend beyond the borders of Westeros.
Sitting down with Den of Geek at SXSW to discuss his career, Salim spoke about what it’s been like to step into this fantasy world and what he loves about the universe that Martin has created. “Oh man, I’m terrified! I’m really pumped for it,” Salim says. “I’ve...

Law & Order creator Dick Wolf welcomed Ice-t with open arms to his hit spin-off Svu. But upon meeting the executive, even gangster rapper Ice-t was taken back by Wolf’s presence.

Ice-t initially wanted to have little to do with television when he was first recruited for the series. He first got his start working with series creator Dick Wolf on the series New York Undercover. But doing television took some convincing, as Ice-t felt he was becoming too big of a movie star for the small screen.
“I had just come off of New Jack City in film, and didn’t need TV,” Ice-t told Variety not too long ago.
His stint in New York Undercover would eventually lead him to work with Wolf much longer in Svu.

Natasha Romanoff has been fighting an uphill battle ever since she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2. In addition to being the only female Avenger in a boys’ club of super-powered dudes (for a time), plans to give her a solo film kept getting derailed by Marvel’s musical chairs approach to priorities and other extraneous factors. When Marvel finally announced Cate Shortland’s 2021 film Black Widow, some fans felt it was too late for the deceased assassin to spend her time in the sun. Despite the film’s questionable CGI and bizarre positioning in the MCU timetable, Black Widow brings some of the best aspects of the character center stage. Black Widow also gives fans Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), arguably one of Marvel’s best on-screen characters in a post-Endgame world. However, did you know David Hayter (Wolves) almost directed a Black Widow film in 2004? It almost happened,...

Kevin Costner’s Horizon is finally, well, on the horizon.
On Oct. 5, Warner Bros. put the actor-director’s Western epic (brief teaser trailer below) on its schedule, announcing the first film in the planned four-part project — Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 — will arrive in theaters June 28, with the second coming out two months later, on Aug. 16. The third film, currently undated, is expected to start production after the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved. The decision comes as Costner exits his other Western, Paramount’s Yellowstone, amid some O.K. Corral-level hostilities among him, the studio and showrunner Taylor Sheridan.
The back-to-back Horizon release strategy is bold, and virtually unprecedented, for a major Hollywood title. Warner Bros. sources point to Clint Eastwood’s 2006 World War II films, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima, as an example: They were released about two months apart (though, unlike the Horizon movies,...

We had an absolute blast attending San Diego Comic Con 2023 and one of the true highlights of the weekend came from attending Funko’s Camp Fundays event. Overall, we had a fantastic and memorable evening celebrating all things Funko…it was absolutely wild!
This year’s Camp Fundays event took place at the Rady Shell located on the marina just out back of the San Diego Convention Center. This year marked the first time that Funko has booked the event in an outdoor venue, and it was certainly a perfect choice. Well-over 3,000 fans attended Camp Fundays and Funko spared no expense making sure that we all had the time of our lives.
The Pops, Sodas and other items featured and given out at the event are some of the rarest and most difficult to obtain making the evening even more special for die-hard fans and collectors. For this year’s...

Filmmaker John McNaughton and actor Michael Rooker, the team who created the classic, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, will reteam, after thirty years, on a new film titled Road Rage, the first in a vigilante film series. Tim Perell will produce through his banner, Process Media.
In 1986, McNaughton co-wrote and directed the award winning and critically acclaimed film Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Called “truly disturbing” by John Waters, the groundbreaking film was a huge crossover hit with genre fans as well as the art house crowd. The film won best picture awards at both the Sitges and Brussels International Film Festivals and was nominated along with McNaughton and Rooker individually for 6 Independent Spirit Awards in 1991. Time Magazine and Roger Ebert both named it one of the top ten films of the year.

Raised by Wolves is Ridley Scott’s answer to those who didn’t take to Prometheus, his magnum opus follow-up to Alien decades later. The powers that be got in the way of his true passion and led to a compromised vision once Alien Covenant came along. This is clearly an opportunity for him to revisit such themes as religion, man’s origin, and artificial intelligence, as well as delve into his slower, more methodical aesthetic preferences in greater detail. The first three episodes introduce us to a future wherein a great war has been fought (or is still being fought? It’s unclear) between atheists and a religious faction known as the Mithraic, spiritual fundamentalists devoted to a sun god called Sol.
The story begins on a planet distant from Earth where an atheist group has sent two androids with the mission...

Years ago, in the pages of Men’s Journal, I confessed to a psychotic obsession with the NFL draft. I dreamed of leaving journalism and being allowed to turn around a wayward team like the Jacksonville Jaguars using ideas like, “Always pick the guy who falls in the draft after a positive weed test.”
But Jaguars owner Shahid Khan never returned my calls. Moreover, I’m beginning to think the NFL won’t exist 20 years from now, because of that minor problem of the sport being physically lethal to its employees.
