For a lot of MCU fans, and Black Widow fans in particular, one of the most baffling choices the movies have made so far came in "Avengers: Endgame," when Black Widow/Natasha (Scarlett Johannsen) and Hawkeye/Clint (Jeremy Renner) tried to throw themselves off a cliff before the other could do it first. The cliff-jumping part made sense — one of them needed to die to save the world, and it was in character for both of them to sacrifice themself so the other could live. The questionable part was when Natasha successfully stopped Clint and flung herself to her death. It was a sad yet heroic end for her character, sure, but on a meta-level, wouldn't it make more sense for the movie to kill Clint?
No disrespect to Clint of course, but he was the less interesting of the two Avengers. He served his role well and had a heartwarming friendship with Natasha,...

Variety recently dropped a bombshell report that exposed most of Marvel’s problems behind the scenes. However, the biggest news from the article is that Marvel is looking to bring back the original Avengers cast. Now, there’s been discussions in the past about the original cast returning. There was even a rumor going around that the brand was looking to reboot, which would allow Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rodgers/Captain America, or Black Widow to return. There are even reports that Robert Downey Jr. has agreed to return to the MCU. Though Kevin Feige has denounced his possible return since. While Phases...

In Avengers: Endgame, two major characters reached their end in the MCU: Steve Rodgers and Tony Stark. Now, for the latter, it’s nearly impossible to bring back Tony Stark since he’s pretty much dead. Kevin Feige can decide to recon the entire ending by finding a way to bring his character back. However, that would be a massive mistake from Feige and Marvel. It’s best to keep Tony Stark dead and build a new generation of heroes. That brings us to Steve Rodgers. The former Captain America didn’t die in Endgame as his ending was a lot more sweeter than...

After a lot of new rewrites and delays in shooting, not to mention the halting of production due the Hollywood strikes, MCU’s latest outing ‘The Marvels’ has released its final trailer and it harbours some of the old-school MCU energy back into its fold.
Beginning with a blurry clip of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, where Tony Stark and Steve Rodgers are discussing their prospects of winning before time travelling, Nick Fury is narrating his belief regarding heroes and saying that while it is an old-school notion the world nonetheless needs them.
While the previous trailer for the film was much more comical with no clear hint as to who the villain is, this time ‘The Marvels’ looks a lot darker and more serious, which makes the stakes much higher as well.
‘The Marvels’ follows Carol Danvers – Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), who has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence.

A lot of false rumors spread quickly because, while they may not have any supporting evidence, we can all kind of see the reasoning behind them. For instance, people believe the rumor that the killers in "Scream 2" were changed at the last second because that's the impression the movie itself gives. More recently, people believed that viral story of Jerry Seinfeld chastising Jimmy Fallon for being rude to his employee because, well, it sounded like the sort of thing both guys would do.
On the same note, it's easy to see how people believed that Jensen Ackles, the beloved actor who played Dean Winchester on "Supernatural" and Soldier Boy on "The Boys," once auditioned for the role of Captain America. The role, which would instead be taken up by Chris Evans, is exactly the sort of character we know Ackles could play: He's a strong, noble super-soldier, one without...

Back in 2019, "Avengers: Endgame" featured one of the boldest moves the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever done: They decided to permanently write off two of its biggest heroes, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Considering most franchises' general tendency to keep things going for as long as possible, the fact that they went through on such a major change to the status quo (and have stuck to it in the years since) feels like minor miracle.
In the years since, they've given us a replacement of sorts for Steve Rogers, letting Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson take over his Captain America role. There hasn't really been a clear-cut replacement for Iron Man, however. Ironheart in "Wakanda Forever" is probably the closest to him from a technical point of view, but who's going...

There’s no huge difference between the MCU’s Captain America and the comic book version. It’s one of the few exceptions in a cinematic universe renowned for innovating around character details to tell a cohesive and modern story. Thor, Thanos, Wong, and Scarlet Witch are some of the success stories of this strategy. In the case of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, though, the core elements appear to have been lifted directly off the page. He’s still the scrawny young man who, despite numerous health issues, volunteered himself to a dangerous experiment to serve his country. Sure, there are minor differences, such

Since the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we've seen a number of unique and unusual characters. Though any Nazi's face is punchable, especially for Captain America, the crimson visage of the Red Skull makes his outsides look as nasty as what's on the inside. Thor's adventures through the Nine Realms have introduced us to Frost Giants, Dark Elves, and Kronans. (That last one is Korg's race of people.) And then the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange took us even further beyond the stars and our own universe to introduce us to even more fantastical beings ripped straight from the pages of Marvel Comics. But "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" brings us probably the weirdest one yet.
In director Peyton Reed's Phase 5 kickoff, the size-shifting Avengers come face-to-huge-face with M.O.D.O.

For all the allegations of his behavior that have surfaced in recent years, it's hard to deny the impact that Joss Whedon had on Hollywood in his prime. Whedon was pretty much a master of ensemble pieces before he was tapped to write and direct "The Avengers" in 2010 — but "The Avengers" was much bigger in scale compared to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Firefly" or "Serenity," the TV shows that put him on the map in the '00s.
Shortly before "The Avengers" released in 2012, Whedon spoke to Den of Geek about the challenges of writing the film. One of the bigger hurdles came in uniting so many different characters, each who'd headlined their own respective projects and existed in wildly different worlds. "You don't try to make anybody else's movie," Whedon explained. "Jon Favreau's going to do a thing, [Kenneth Branagh] is going to do a thing. I'm going...

After more than a decade on our screens, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a massive universe at this point, and it can be hard to keep track of everything that’s gone down — so allow us to do that for you.
Obviously, if you’re watching Marvel’s latest releases, you’re probably already pretty well-versed in this particular franchise. But maybe you’re coming into one of these new films simply because an actor you love is in it, or someone you love wants to watch a Marvel project with you, and you don’t have much of a knowledge base going into it.
Whether you don’t have time to sit down and marathon six or seven shows and almost 30 movies — or really just don’t have a desire to — or you’re simply here because you’re trying to remember when that one thing happened, we’ve got you.

One of the great charms of the first two “Ant-Man” movies is how little they have to do with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang tussles with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in the 2015 original. And yeah, the introduction of the Quantum Realm in the 2018 sequel lays the groundwork for the time travel shenanigans in “Avengers: Endgame.” But generally speaking, audiences could take in Scott’s size-shifting adventures alongside scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), his daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank’s wife and Hope’s mother Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), without needing to be steeped within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The concept of the super soldier has become a common (if not overused) conceit in the Marvel Universe — not only in the comics, but in its cinematic iteration as well. Abraham Erskine's Super Soldier Serum is probably best known as the stuff that transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America. Notably, Erskine's formula died with him, making Cap the only super soldier alive — at least for the moment. Countless tried to recreate its effects, spawning multiple heroes and villains in the process. A few writers took a page from that book in adapting the comics for Marvel's Cinematic Universe. Characters that previously had little to do with the serum were suddenly made into super soldiers. With certain characters, like Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, it absolutely works. But the sheer influx of characters with similar origins has kind of taken the novelty out of it since.

The cast for Marvel's Captain America: New World Order is growing by one. Atlanta and Space Jam: A New Legacy's Xosha Roquemore will be part of the ensemble playing — and you surely should have seen this coming – a character that is a mystery for now.
New World Order sees Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson as Cap, following the events of The Falcon And The Winter Solider, which saw him wrangling with whether he even wanted to take over after Chris Evans' Steve Rogers handed him the shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
He'll star alongside Harrison Ford (who takes over the role of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross from the late William Hurt) and Tim Blake Nelson as The Incredible Hulk's Samuel Sterns (Aka The Leader), plus Danny Ramirez as Falcon's Joaquin Torres, who looks set to inherit the Falcon role from Wilson and Carl Lumbly as the show's Isiah Bradley,...

Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is directing the fourth film in Marvel’s Captain America series from a script by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Smoke on the street implies Roquemore is playing a pivotal role in the sequel starring Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America.
Details about Roquemore’s role remain a mystery. However, reports suggest cameras will roll on Captain America: New World Order on May 3, 2023. There came a day, a day unlike any other when Earth's Mightiest Heroes found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest and most successful franchise in pop culture history. Fans and critics alike have delighted at what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has pulled off, turning a popular film series into a sprawling saga spanning the galaxy, the time-space continuum, and now multiple dimensions. While it may be tempting to attribute the McU's triumph to the novelty of basing a franchise on such an expansive and interconnected universe, that's only part of what keeps audiences coming back for every new film and TV show. Filled with talented actors, engaging stories, humor, and breathtaking fight scenes, nearly every chapter in the MCU has been a crowd-pleaser.

Marvel fans have been debating whether Jenna Ortega would be eligible for a future role in the popular superhero franchise.

While Marvel has been known for signing many of Hollywood’s most promising young actors onto big recurring roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – including Florence Pugh, Will Poulter and Hailee Steinfeld – some have pointed out that Ortega may never get the chance.
This is because she has in fact already appeared in the MCU as a child, playing a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in 2012’s Iron Man 3.
Ortega’s appearance in the film didn’t escape the notice of many disappointed Wednesday fans, including former adult film star Mia Khalifa, who wrote last week to her 5.1 million Twitter followers: “Life is unfair, and I stand by that because Jenna Ortega...

Setting two soldiers with superhuman abilities against each other is typical in the Marvel Universe, and to be fair, Cable and Captain America have met before, and Cable has even managed to tangle with each other in the comics before, but it’s fair to assume that a lot of people either don’t remember this or don’t want to remember the outcome. The fact is that Captain America is insanely strong, but the super soldier serum only extends his reach into superhuman status so far, while Cable is naturally gifted in a few ways that would manage to give Steve Rogers

Photo: ‘Captain America 4’ At the very end of 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ we saw the departure of Steve Rogers from the MCU. Played by Chris Evans, he gave the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson, his friend, partner, and the Falcon. Not only was this a touching moment between two characters that perfectly concluded Steve Rogers’ story, but established a question Marvel fans had been wondering for a long time: what will become of Captain America when Chris Evans leaves the MCU for good? The Marvel Cinematic Universe is absolutely obsessed with Steve Rogers. It's been years since we last saw the star-spangled man disappear into the past, share a dance with Peggy Carter, and then reemerge as a Joe Biden lookalike. And even so, we've never really been rid of him. At first, it was just because we couldn't make sense of what his ending implied -- has Steve always been Peggy's mysterious husband? Did he disrupt the timeline by popping back to the past? Is he also a secret US President?! but even after Timeline-Gate was settled, Steve's presence has lingered. Chris Evans may not have plans to return, but the MCU still refuses to let the supersoldier go.
Since Steve quietly exited the present, his life has been celebrated via museum exhibits, a broadway musical, and — the wildest of them all — the addition of Cap's shield to New York's Statue of Liberty.

The last few years have seen Marvel Studios push the boundaries in terms of their costume designs, reinventing familiar looks while adapting new clothing from the comics. However, each Phase of the MCU has boasted a standout suit, which not only includes plenty of character-driven details, but also looks amazing and heavily draws from the source material.
When judging a costume therefore, it’s important to take into account the artwork on the page, how those attires actually interact with the narrative, their functionality on screen, and how iconic they have become. Each of these costumes bring something unique to the wider wardrobe of Marvel, and are standout pieces because of the nuanced choices the incredible costume designers made; a team of people that continue to be the unsung heroes of the entire franchise.

Anthony Mackie has come a long way since first suiting up as the Falcon in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" back in 2014. In fact, his Sam Wilson is next in line to take up the mantle once held by Chris Evans' Steve Rogers in "Captain America: New World Order," which is set to hit theaters next year. There is currently a bit of uncertainty in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a time when much of the old guard is making their exit and passing the torch to other characters.
Sam is one of the most well-established legacy heroes in the MCU, having appeared in multiple movies and even co-headlining his own Disney+ series, "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier." Fans love his take on the character and I think it's safe to say we're all looking forward to seeing him step into Captain America's boots in 2024. Interestingly, Falcon wasn't...

If there's a highlight of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," it's Namor the Sub-Mariner (Tenoch Huerta Mejía). For the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Namor was reinvented as a man of Mayan descent, with his underwater kingdom renamed from Atlantis to Talokan. He's still just as self-righteous as his comics self, though, and a scarier fighter to boot.
Like Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) before him, though, one can view Namor as an anti-hero, a man with some good ideas who's going about them in all the wrong way. The MCU has its fair share of such villains, but they all feel half-hearted compared to Killmonger, and now Namor.
Despite his conflict with Wakanda, Namor never had a chance to meet his fellow king, T'Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman). If Marvel fans want to see that conflict, they should check out the comics themselves, especially Jonathan Hickman's run on "The Avengers." This epic...

As of 2022, Chris Hemsworth has played Thor for 11 years, which is the same length as Robert Downey Jr.'s run as Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Downey Jr. depicted the "genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" across nine movies (not counting his credits scene cameo in "The Incredible Hulk"), which is just one more MCU film than Hemsworth has under his belt at this stage (not counting his own cameo in the credits for "Doctor Strange"). Who will emerge triumphant in this totally arbitrary contest?
The key to Hemsworth's durability as the blonde Asgardian beefcake is a combination of the actor's dedication to sustaining the superhero's incredibly defined physique and to changing up his portrayal of the character from one film to the next. Depending on who's calling the shots, no two versions of Thor are quite alike. In Kenneth Branagh's hands, he's an arrogant royal son in need of a lesson in humility.

This post contains spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Where are the Avengers? For fans of shared universe stories, that question can get very annoying very fast. It makes sense for those new to the concept to wonder about the whereabouts of other characters, but for long-term fans, the answer is simple: someplace else.
Too much worrying about what Thor is doing while Doctor Strange fights Scarlet Witch or why Ant-Man never helped Shang-Chi stop the bus rampaging through San Francisco distracts from the main hero’s story. Just enjoy Doctor Strange and Spidey and let other heroes worry about themselves.
That said, it does make sense for characters to cross paths at certain events, such as the funeral for Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame, attended by all major heroes, including T’Challa. As impressive as that scene certainly was, it has nothing on the funeral scene from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finishes off Marvel’s chaotic and oversaturated Phase 4 and while there’s much to be said about the heroes of Wakanda taking up arms after T’Challa’s abrupt demise, one of the true highlights of the movie is Tenoch Huerta as Namor, the Sub-Mariner. The aquatic king known to his people as K’uk’ulkan is a revelation in Wakanda Forever. Not only does he steal whatever scene he’s in, but he already feels like a potentially major fixture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While an easy decision for them to make, it is fortunate that Marvel did not kill Namor off by the end of the movie. Instead, he remains in his Talokan kingdom, trying to make sense out of Shuri’s mercy in a way that vindicates his bloodlust against the surface world. Namor...

Spoilers for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" follow.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an unprecedented experiment in film, an interconnected universe with dozens of different characters and stories, woven together to make a huge tapestry. But that tapestry is not without flaws. Though the interconnectedness has mostly applied to the heroes — who go on to get sequels before meeting up with other heroes in the big Avengers events — the same cannot be same for the villains. Indeed, Marvel has long had a villain problem, with the vast majority of their antagonists never making it past their introduction. Sure, there are exceptions, and most of them are set to return for "Thunderbolts." Outside of them, however, we haven't had many villains make it out of their first film alive, let alone with a promising future.
But things change with "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." The film does a lot of things right, from...

It feels like it's been a bit of a meteoric rise to stardom for Anthony Mackie, even if the New Orleans-born actor has been doing strong work on the big screen for the last two decades following his first film role in the Eminem-starring "8 Mile." After making a splash as the main antagonist in that movie, Mackie started working steadily with roles in "The Manchurian Candidate," "Million Dollar Baby," "We Are Marshall," and "The Hurt Locker," but it wasn't until he landed the coveted role of Sam Wilson, better known as the Falcon, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that his career really started to soar.
After making his MCU debut in the acclaimed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Mackie has, to date, strapped on the wings five more times on the big screen. Last year, he carried the character over to the small screen alongside Sebastian Stan's...

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is playing in theaters now, and the reviews are in: it's the most acclaimed Marvel movie of the year. Fans and critics have praised how the film handles the passing of Chadwick Boseman, the introductions of Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), and even its mid-credits scene. By most accounts, writer-director Ryan Coogler nailed the difficult task of making a sequel to his masterpiece without the beloved Boseman.
However, that doesn't make it a perfect film. Coogler nailing the film's emotional beats sometimes disrupts the film's logical flow. While "Wakanda Forever" features many feel-good moments and cathartic bouts, some plotlines don't make sense. Most superhero movies do some degree of handwaving -- but because we love them, we're going to dig into this film's missed opportunities. So get those heart-shaped herbs ready because we're...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown quite a bit since we last visited Wakanda. We’ve met new comic characters in film form, like Shang-Chi, The Eternals and Ms. Marvel, as well as Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight. Thor, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Doctor Strange have all received at least second if not third (or in Thor’s case fourth) installments within their respective hero’s journeys. But of course, the worst news involves the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed Prince and then King T’Challa in “Black Panther” (2018).
Boseman’s character has not been recast, and the legacy he left behind serves as its own presence in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The world of Wakanda has been slowly introduced over the last few years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it might be helpful to brush up on who has crossed the borders of the hidden nation,...

Jeremy Strong, the portrayer of everyone's favorite sadboy failson on "Succession," has been accused of taking himself too seriously before. While he takes a lot of issue with that accusation, the seriousness with which he takes his craft has partially led to his career renaissance in the past few years, with his starring role on "Succession" as the centerpiece.
Many pinpoint the point at which his career really took off as when he played a major role in Adam McKay's 2015 flick, "The Big Short," which helped land him the role on the McKay-led HBO series. But according to a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Strong almost got what could have been his big break in a very different kind of movie, "Captain America; The First Avenger."

In one of the more interesting casting missed opportunities, Succession actor Jeremy Strong almost played Captain America. Well, Ok, just his body would have been used…and it would have been for the puny version of Steve Rogers.
In the earlier days of his budding screen career, Jeremy Strong was strongly considered for the role of Steve Rogers’ body in the first act of 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. “They needed someone to play Captain America’s young body, before he turns into a superhero. They said they needed a transformational actor and would use CGI to put the actual actor’s face and voice over my own.”
It’s a fun before-they-were-stars story of pre-fame glimpses of success, but Jeremy Strong ended up turning down the role–maybe he thought it would conflict with his surname? It would go to a fellow named Leander Deeny. Hey, considering most...

Chris Evans joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers/Captain America in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” but it was only the actor’s face that fans saw in the first act of the movie. To show a younger Steve Rogers before he is injected with a serum that turns him into a muscular superhero, the VFX team put Evans’ face on the body of a much scrawnier actor. It turns out that actor could’ve been none other than Jeremy Strong had he not turned down the “role.”
