Andy Kerr-Wilson
- Writer
Both a narrator and writer, Andy is known for an accessible and direct style that invites the viewer into a conversation about the thoughts and ideas presented. His most significant work is the two part series Trees, Youth or Future, that tells the story of forestry in Ontario from its first beginnings to the present, and how it is facing its future. Through on-screen and voice over narration, Andy ties together over two centuries of challenges and adaptation into a coherent story of social change in a country and industry. Andy's other work includes a series of short documentaries on Species at Risk; a three part series of documentaries on fish habitat enhancement, and a short dramatic role as a forester in a educational video.
Since 2010, Andy has applied his writing and performing skills to spoken word poetry, ultimately competing at Canada's National Slam Competition in 2010 [Toronto], 2011 [Saskatoon], 2012 [Montreal] and in 2017 [Guelph].
Born in Nova Scotia, raised in Ontario, and worked and traveled across Canada, Andy's work draws on his 45 years as a wilderness canoeing and rafting guide, and his 25 years as an environmental educator. His deeply rooted connection to the Canadian landscape is evident as he guides his listeners to a richer understanding of environmental issues.
Since 2004 Andy has been living with his partner in a self-built off-grid home. He continues to travel, by canoe and on horseback, and continues to write and narrate documentaries on environment and resource management issues.
