A 30-year-old production designer hailing from the world of New York theater, Jason Sherwood entered the world of television just last year, and has already racked up his first Emmy nomination, for his contributions to Rent: Live.
Interning for Derek McLane—the production designer behind The Sound of Music Live!—at a time when the live TV musical format was just beginning to making a resurgence, Sherwood was “obsessed with the idea that a musical was going to be given a mainstream platform in that way,” he told Deadline recently. In 2009, the Internet went crazy over a rumor that Neil Patrick Harris would play The Flash in a big screen "Justice League" movie. That didn’t happen — Ezra Miller got the job and Harris settled with voicing the character in a direct-to-dvd animated film. But now it’s looking like "Gone Girl" costar could finally get a superheroic boost from the team behind CW’s "The Flash." They’ll be feeding Harris his lines when he takes on hosting duties for the 87th Academy Awards. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced that writer, producer and director Greg Berlanti joins the team as head writer for his first Oscars telecast. The name should be familiar to anyone absorbed in comic book movie/TV sagas; Berlanti’s writing credits include the television series “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Everwood” and “Dawson’s Creek,” and the feature films “Wrath of the Titans” and “Green Lantern.

Anyone who has seen one of Pink's acrobatic stage shows — in which she flies upside-down through the air while managing to sing beautifully — knows that the talented 30-year-old puts herself at risk nightly. MTV News got an inside-look at what it takes to put together such a perilous act when Pink performed at the Video Music Awards last September.
And after a harness reportedly malfunctioned and Pink fell onto a steel barricade during a show in Germany on Thursday, we immediately thought back to what we learned from seeing her Vma rehearsals and talking with a show insider.
"There's a lot of danger," Vma creative director Lee Lodge told us last year. "You may see it, and you may think it's amazing,...

It's the question on everyone's lips: What will Lady Gaga do when she takes the stage at Radio City Music Hall for the VMAs? But since the native New Yorker's performance is top-secret and hush-hush until it actually goes down, MTV News has gotten some people close to the singer to dish about what Perez Hilton promises to be "next-level." And, he should know—he is her bestie.
"I think, without a doubt, Gaga's gonna be that big star of the night, just because her performance really is next-level," he told MTV News. "That's the thing about her: She's always trying to top herself, and I think she's going to."
He added that she revealed some details of the performance while the two were hanging out in the far East.

It's hard to believe that all the action of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards can possibly be contained in just a few hours of prime time — especially considering that the first half hour alone will feature a hotly anticipated performance from Lady Gaga, another from Taylor Swift, a show-opening tribute to Michael Jackson featuring sister Janet Jackson, plus appearances from Eminem, Pete Wentz, Justin Bieber, Jack Black, Shakira, "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner and Kristin Cavallari.
A year after he needled the Jonas Brothers, Madonna and then-President George W. Bush, host Russell Brand has promised a kinder, gentler hosting stint for his second go 'round. This time, he says, it's all about the love — we'll see!
