December 12, 2022 – Closing out another monster year, multi-platinum rapper Lil Tecca unleashes his new track “Blessing” via Galactic/Republic Records/Universal Music Canada.
The melodic production perfectly complements his hummable flow. He leans into the beat with quotable rhymes before he proclaims, “I’m the blessing, so who bout to bless me now?” Once again, Tecca pulls off a masterful balance of lyrical acrobatics and soaring harmonies.
It serves as the follow-up to his latest anthem “Treesha.” In addition to piling up over 20 million streams, it earned widespread critical acclaim. HotNewHipHop hailed it as “bouncy” and noted, “Lil Tecca has proven himself to be one of the most consistently catchy artists in the hip-hop world.” Our Generation Music dubbed it an “instantly catchy banger,” and Rap Radar promised, “Lil Tecca keeps his momentum going.”

With the proliferation of both structured and unstructured reality programs, the TV academy chose to split the reality program category at the Emmy Awards into two separate categories in 2014 to better recognize achievements in both genres. This year’s unstructured entrant total of 65 is up 17 from last year. There were 44 in 2020, 54 in 2019, and 62 in 2018.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 27 to cast their ballots for their favorite unstructured reality shows. In the past, voters were limited in the number of such shows that they could put forth, but that restriction was lifted in 2017. Unlike at the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.
Unlike comedy and drama series, which are simply listed on the ballot by name, the reality program submissions include plot descriptions.

Coi Leray’s album Trendsetter marks the culmination of a nearly four-year journey that began with the RIAA-certified success of 2018’s “Huddy” and continued with 2021’s “No More Parties.” It also included a handful of minor dustups: video of her at last year’s Rolling Loud Miami drew social media mockery for her concert audience’s nonplussed reaction; and, more worryingly, a war of words erupted with her estranged father, rapper and onetime Eminem combatant turned reality-tv star Benzino. Ironically, the tumult elevated Coi Leray’s profile, helping her emerge...

Though I was born at the tail end of the '90s, I'll never forget how vital MTV was to developing my love for pop culture. Before school, I would sneak to the living room, turn the volume down as low as possible, and worship performers like Rihanna or Gwen Stefani as they shook their hips, dripping in Juicy Couture and low-rise True Religion jeans. I remember seeing D4L's video for Laffy Taffy during one of my morning escapades and being entranced, not only by the gaudiness of their gold chains and clothing choices, but by the music itself.
Looking back, that video is an encapsulation of what pop culture in mid-2000s was; glitzy and campy. MTV was a middleman in the exchange from artist to audience. The channel played an active role in what culture viewed as the epitome of wealth and success, and made it feel reachable.

Satellite radio giant SiriusXM continues to expand, announcing a $75 million investment for a minority stake in the privately-held open audio platform SoundCloud.
The companies didn’t specify the size of the stake but it comes with two new seats for Sirius on the SoundCloud board.
SoundCloud said it will use the cash injection to accelerate product development and enhance services for its global community of creators and listeners. The investment, said SoundCloud CEO Kerry Trainor, “gives us added capital flexibility to accelerate our vision and take advantage of strategic opportunities as they arise.”
The two companies currently have a sales agreement through Pandora, a Sirius subsidiary, that lets advertisers and brands purchase SoundCloud’s U.S. ad inventory directly through Pandora – leveraging its significant direct sales capabilities, targeting data, and audio programmatic platform. SoundCloud and Pandora’s combined U.S. audience offering reaches 100 million-plus unique listeners.

Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” is the number-one song in the country for the fifth week in a row on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. That’s the longest reign ever for any female rapper without another artist credited. But how long will she maintain her grip on the top spot? She’s got some competition from newcomers Lewis Capaldi and Lil Tecca. Watch Billboard’s video above to see all of this week’s top 10 singles.
Before “Truth Hurts,” the longest number-one run for a female rapper by herself was Cardi B with her breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow,” which spent three weeks in the lead position in 2017. In another couple of weeks Lizzo could tie the record for all female rappers: Iggy Azalea set that benchmark when she spent seven weeks at the summit in 2014 with “Fancy” featuring Charli Xcx.

Lil Nas X continues to enjoy the Number One spot on Rolling Stone‘s Top 100 chart, handily out-streaming this week’s runner-up, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s duet “Señorita.” No new songs made it into the Top Ten last week, so the ranking was mostly populated by familiar titles from Drake, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and DaBaby. Lil Nas X’s “Panini,” which debuted at Number Four on the Top 100 last week, fell to Number Six.
