Earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and journalism from the University of Iowa.
In 1999, she became an evening anchor for Phoenix, Arizona TV station KSAZ-TV (Fox 10 Phoenix), working there until resigning in 2021 to run for governor of Arizona.
Daughter of Larry A. Lake and Sheila A. Lake (nee McGuire).
Grew up in Iowa with 8 siblings.
In May 1991, Kari began working at KWQC-TV in Davenport, Iowa, as an intern while attending the University of Iowa.
