Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order is the third film in a trilogy that The Asylum began in Ape vs Monster and continued in Ape vs Mecha Ape. Or more likely the third film in a series that will last as long as there are megabudget Kong vs Godzilla films to provide inspiration for their mockbuster franchise.
Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order starts in 2007, Abraham the chimp is orbiting Earth when something large approaches the capsule and briefly cuts off contact between and NASA. Seventeen years later, the now kaiju-sized simian is angrily stomping around his home on Watkins Island, much to the concern of Hank and Mariana.
Naomi is also upset, the cruise ship her parents were on has disappeared without a trace. When the authorities can...

With Legendary’s big budget Hollywood blockbuster Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire dominating the box office, you knew it wouldn’t be long before The Asylum whipped up their own “mockbuster” version of the film. Their answer to Godzilla x Kong? It’s titled Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order, a sequel to last year’s Ape vs. Mecha Ape, naturally.
Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order will be available on Digital beginning April 5, and it pits the two titular titans up against, well, a mockbuster take on Lovecraft’s Cthulhu. Naturally!
In Ape x Mecha Ape, “A global cabal of world leaders awakens an ancient creature beneath the ocean floor. Now mankind’s only hope rests on an uneasy alliance between the giant ape and his mechanical arch-nemesis, Mecha Ape MkII, to save the Earth.”
The film will also be playing in the following theaters this Friday:

When Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021, the folks at The Asylum quickly put together a mockbuster called Ape vs. Monster, which featured a giant chimpanzee battling a giant Gila monster (after both creatures were enlarged by consuming a mysterious substance leaking from a space capsule). A sequel called Ape vs. Mecha Ape followed in 2023. Now the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is in theatres, and The Asylum will be giving their mockbuster Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order a digital and theatrical release this Friday, April 5th. In anticipation of the release, a trailer has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.

An early news report provides the film’s backstory, as a U.S. Senator committed suicide after a report was released detailing his involvement with drug trafficking. After her expose’s release, writer Nora Thompson (Nicole Cinaglia) is excited by the wider engagement her social media has received as a result. Her enjoyment is shattered when she’s taken hostage by Carolyn Morrison (Vienna Hayden), the senator’s vengeful daughter who subsequently lost her inheritance. As they venture into the woods, a creature stalking them forces the pair to work together to survive.
Director Alex T. Hwang sets his sights on delivering a tense scenario, as these two characters must rely on whatever they can find in the unforgiving elements for protection. The reality is far less promising, as there...

This Sunday marks one year since the passing of filmmaker Tobe Hooper. Last year we celebrated Hooper's legacy on a very special and solemn episode of our podcast, and one of the co-hosts on that episode was of course film journalist Patrick Bromley. Nobody on the planet has celebrated Hooper's work like Bromley has over the years, especially in the months after the director's unexpected passing, and Bromley's celebration of the influential director will continue in its biggest installment yet this Sunday in a live video tribute featuring some very special guests that will pay their respects to one of the horror genre's unsung heroes.
Beginning at 10:00am Cst on Sunday, August 26th on F This Movie! and running throughout the day, Patrick Bromley's live tribute to Tobe Hooper will feature special guests who worked with Hooper, including filmmaker and Post Mortem podcast host Mick Garris and actress Caroline Williams.

Besides releasing a number of our favorite classic horror films and the occasional cult oddity, the good folks at Scream Factory are also releasing a number of contemporary horror films and giving them a home on Blu-ray. Here’s a look at three of their recent efforts:
Ten years after it was slated for release, The Poughkeepsie Tapes is finally available on Blu-ray thanks to Scream Factory. Would that it had remained buried. A found-footage “documentary”-style horror film, it chronicles a serial killer who has videotaped all of his crimes. The film is pieced together through interviews with people familiar with the case, as well as footage taken by the killer himself. Imagine the video camera scene from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, only stretched to feature length and repellant for totally different reasons.
The sequence in Henry works because the film has earned that moment and because...

Kevin Greutert (The Strangers) and Jared Rivet are the filmmakers behind the horror film Jackals. This title, slated for a September, release involves a cult and a young boy. Both the family and the cult vie for him. And, Jackals is reminiscent of Adam Wingard's You're Next, in costume and setting. As well, Jackals stars: Jonathon Schaech, Deborah Kara Unger and Stephen Dorff. The film's first trailer and poster are hosted here. The poster for the film was developed from an early still. The still and graphic show frozen characters, masked in fog. That axe is not for chopping wood. And, the tagline: "sacrifices must be made" reminds viewers of the blood to be spilled. Director Greutert also helmed Saw: The Final Chapter. Jackals is slated for a September 1st release. This title will show through Video-on-demand and in theatres, on this date. Last week, I embarked on a fun little assignment to pull together a batch of teaser trailers for horror sequels; the one criteria being that they all had to feature exclusive footage specifically shot and used just for that trailer. One of the greatest aspects of putting together articles like this is that after I finish them, I like to open up the discussion amongst my Facebook friends and see if we agree or if they have other suggestions I could’ve possibly gone with. While I already had my horror sequels picked out, I got a handful of terrific recommendations for teaser trailers featuring original footage for non-sequel horror movies. So, low and behold, I thought these awesome teasers warranted a separate article and man, some of these are cool as all hell! Special thanks to Jared Rivet, Jeff Nelson & Sean Keller for pointing out quite a few of these to me,...

One of the great things about growing up in the late 80’s/early 90’s was that the majority of the well known horror franchises were all at their absolute peak in popularity, which meant that sequels to some of the most famous movie maniacs were always in production and always inevitable. Part of the fun of these flicks getting churned out at such an alarmingly fast rate was that in order to start promoting the next entry of a series in a timely fashion, studios would create teaser trailers with footage never intended for the actual movie. Just something quick and cool to whet the insatiable appetite of horror fanatics. So what follows are 10 of our all time favorite horror franchise teaser trailers. Do you remember any of the following?
A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) – At this point, Freddy Krueger was on the cusp of becoming a phenomenon.

About a year ago, this site broke the news that Tobe Hooper was developing a remake of the 1932 film White Zombie , starring Bela Lugosi. During my conversation with Hooper recently, as we looked back at the making of The Funhouse , I questioned him about the status of the redo. He lamented the project's demise. A case of it not coming together due to "rights issues." "It was really heartbreaking," admits screenwriter Jared Rivet, the man behind-the-scenes with Hooper during White Zombie 's development. "The movie is clearly public domain, but there were question marks about uncredited source material.
