Last year, the Disney+ series "Ahsoka" took us to an entirely new galaxy in the "Star Wars" universe. It was there that we found Ezra Bridger, the missing Jedi hero, and Grand Admiral Thrawn, the plotting villain that Ezra disappeared with at the end of "Star Wars Rebels" (but had a long history in "Star Wars" before that). Along with seeing Thrawn's smug blue face in live-action, we also met a new villain named Captain Enoch, a unique golden-faced stormtrooper who leads a new contingent of terrifying stormtroopers known as Night Troopers. Basically zombified versions of the classic white-clad combatants, these troopers have dirty, cracked armor and accents of red, gray, and gold sporadically wrapped, splashed, and cracked on their signature gear.

This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Ahsoka hasn’t yet been officially renewed for another season, but with all of the loose threads left by the season 1 finale, it’s hard not to dream about where season 2 could take these characters.
With Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), and Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) now stranded on Peridea and Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) returning home with an army of entombed Nightsisters in tow, there is a lot at stake across not just one, but two galaxies. Now that the Nightsisters have officially made a comeback in the New Republic era, I can’t think of a better character to bring into Ahsoka than Nightsister Merrin (Tina Ivlev).

There will be spoilers for "Andor" Episode VII - "Announcement."
Wullf Yularen has been a figure in "Star Wars" since the birth of the series in 1977. The white-uniformed Imperial Security Bureau head could be seen seated at the boardroom table aboard the Death Star as Grand Moff Tarkin and Admiral Motti went round and round about the power they truly held in their hands. He's been laced throughout the canon throughout the years, both in the Legends and current continuity. His name first appeared on a card in the "Star Wars: Customizable Card Game" from Decipher cards and he's been a major player in "Star Wars" ever since.
His presence isn't just an Easter egg, but might have ramifications for the future of "Andor."

We've still no idea where fan-favorite Jedi-in-training Ezra Bridger went after getting pulled into hyperspace with the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn at the end of "Star Wars Rebels." Thankfully, though, we now know who will be playing the live-action version of the character when he appears in the upcoming "Ahsoka" series.
Cinelinx is reporting Ezra will be portrayed by Eman Esfandi on "Ahsoka," with major outlets like The Hollywood Reporter backing its claim. The news caps off a busy week for the up-and-coming actor, whose most recent movie, the LGBTQ+ military drama "The Inspection," only just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Esfandi also had a small role in the Oscar-winning 2021 biopic film "King Richard."

The Mandalorian era of Star Wars is expanding with yet another live-action series, this time centering on Rosario Dawson’s wise Jedi hero Ahsoka Tano. The series, which is set five years after Return of the Jedi, just like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, will see Ahsoka continuing her search for Grand Admiral Thrawn, an Imperial villain with a very long legacy in the galaxy far, far away.
But as we learned at the Mando+ panel at Star Wars Celebration, Ahsoka won’t be the only fan-favorite animated character appearing in live-action on the new series. In fact, fans of the Rebels animated series should be very excited because several members of the Ghost crew are also coming back. This Star Wars: The Book Of Boba Fett review contains spoilers.
With Tatooine and Boba’s soul on the line, the finale of The Book of Boba Fett had a lot to do. Not only did “In the Name of Honor” need to settle the score between Boba Fett, the Pyke Syndicate, and Cad Bane but it also had a bit of The Mandalorian baggage to carry. Would Grogu choose to stay with Luke Skywalker and complete his Jedi training or would he reunite with Din Djarin and follow the path of the Mandalorians?
In the end, the daimyo of Mos Espa was victorious, with Cad Bane defeated in a duel, and Grogu came zipping back to Tatooine on Luke’s X-wing, finally ending speculation about whether we’d ever see our dynamic bounty hunting duo together again. But The Book of Boba Fett still leaves a few loose ends.

The expansion of Disney+ Star Wars series will continue in 2022 with The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor, while The Mandalorian is also set to return with its long-awaited third season. That’s quite a lot of Star Wars in the next year, but Lucasfilm is already looking toward its 2023 slate, which includes the highly-anticipated Ahsoka series starring Rosario Dawson.
The Jedi-centric series, which will reportedly go into production in March, has been busy rounding out its cast. Deadline is reporting another new addition: Ivanna Sakhno (Pacific Rim: Uprising) will play “a newly created character” in the series as opposed to a hero or villain we’ve met in the past. That means it’s too early to say how big her role will be in the series, but that’s not stopped fans from speculating about who she might be playing, from the mystical Force being known...

It was basically a foregone conclusion that Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren would eventually make the jump to live action once Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) showed up on The Mandalorian still searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn. After all, when Ahsoka first set out on her mission to find the Imperial villain — and the Jedi friend he’d stolen from her — it was Sabine who joined her on that journey.
Well, Deadline has finally confirmed that, yes, Sabine is back and will be played Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society) on the upcoming Star Wars: Ahsoka series on Disney+. The outlet didn’t dig up any plot details about Sabine’s live-action debut, but we already know plenty, thanks to the Rebels animated series that concluded in 2018.

Din Djarin doesn’t want to be involved in galactic war. He just wants to find a happy life for his kid, Grogu. But like Rebels, the animated show that took on the bulk of Star Wars storytelling outside of the movies before Disney+ was a thing, The Mandalorian has gradually become more connected to the rest of the saga. Set after the fall of the Empire, the live-action series has already touched on the Mandalorian civil war, Ahsoka Tano’s search for Grand Admiral Thrawn, and even brought in elements from Legends canon.
If Din’s destiny is tied up to the final battles against the Imperial remnant, Rebels regular Hera Syndulla is the perfect character to guide Mando through that larger saga story as someone who once fought on the fringes but is now a New Republic leader. She’s also a popular character with the versatility to...

Star Wars is a story about good triumphing over evil, the heroes overcoming all challenges before them and defeating the villains. But we love to watch the antagonists, too! What would the saga be without its iconic, larger-than-life villains?
The hum of a lightsaber echoes in a hallway filled with smoke. A mastermind works behind gilded walls against his enemies. A bounty hunter zips through the sky with his jet pack. A dark lord awaits her prey from the core of a dying planet. These are moments that stay with us long after the credits have rolled, and they’re the reason why a few of the villains on this list are considered some of the best ever created regardless of the medium.
We’ve ranked our top 10 favorite Star Wars villains below:
10. General Grievous
Like many characters and concepts in the Prequels, Grievous is perhaps most notable for his visual design and powerful presence.

Luke Skywalker’s unexpected return on The Mandalorian last year reignited fan theories and speculation about the beloved Jedi hero’s involvement in upcoming Star Wars project. Will Mark Hamill’s CGI likeness return for The Mandalorian season 3 with little Grogu in tow? Is he destined to become a character who casts his shadow on all of the upcoming live-action series set after Return of the Jedi? Or was his last-minute rescue in Mando season 2 finale just a cameo designed to shatter the internet?
The completely unsatisfying answer is that we simply don’t know what’s next for Luke. We know where his story is ultimately headed, thanks to The Last Jedi, but we know he got up to many adventures between the Original Trilogy and his return in The Force Awakens. It’s not unreasonable to speculate that some of these untold Luke stories could intersect with The Mandalorian,...

Disney’s 2012 acquisition of the Star Wars franchise obviously proved consequential, especially after it redefined the Skywalker Saga with a Sequel Trilogy, two standalone films, a successful live-action series, and an array of animated shows. Yet, one sore point (of many) for longtime fans has been the company’s erasure of decades’ worth of beloved Expanded Universe Star Wars novels, comic books, and video games, which were relegated to the non-canon label Legends. However, said erasure doesn’t mean the old canon is gone completely, as exemplified this week by Hasbro, which is dedicating a whole new wave of action figures to the Legends Expanded Universe.
Hasbro has revealed an intriguing quartet for its 6” scaled Star Wars: The Black Series line: Jaxxon, Darth Maul (Sith Apprentice), Carnor Jax, and Luke Skywalker (Heir to the Empire)—each character—or character iteration—hails from the Legends lore that Disney unceremoniously scrapped. Indeed,...

Benedict Cumberbatch may seem like the obvious choice to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in The Mandalorian.
Star Wars fans have long suggested the Sherlock and Doctor Strange actor for the role. Thrawn, introduced in Timothy Zahn’s 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, is a regal, ultra-calm blue-skinned Imperial leader known for his strategic brilliance. After debuting as the iconic character in an episode of The Mandalorian season 2, Rosario Dawson will be back as Ahsoka Tano soon in her very own vehicle. Ahsoka was one of the many new Star Wars series headed to Disney Plus that was announced by the studio last month and while no story details were revealed at the time, a recent report may tell us what we can expect from the show.
Kessel Run Transmissions has shared a bunch of intriguing plot details in their latest video and they confirm that the main thrust of Ahsoka will be the former Jedi’s hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger. This was established in “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” in which Ahsoka name-dropped the Imperial villain. As fans of Star Wars Rebels will know, she’s on the hunt for Thrawn as he went missing with Ezra at the end of the animated series.

Jon Favreau knows a thing or two about launching a shared mythology having laid the foundations for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after directing Iron Man, and while the sequel suffered from focusing too heavily on things to come at the expense of the story being told, you’d hope that he’s learned his lesson seeing as Lucasfilm are looking to replicate the formula with their Disney Plus roster of Star Wars shows.
Season 2 of The Mandalorian set the stage for three spinoffs without impacting the central plot, and fans now have The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic to look forward to. There might be close to a dozen Star Wars shows in the works for Disney Plus, but those four in particular will occupy their own corner of the universe and presumably cross-pollinate in a number of ways outside of the main characters.

Grand Admiral Thrawn is making his live-action Star Wars debut soon, that much is basically certain. After all, The Mandalorian didn’t name-drop the iconic villain, who originated in the old Expanded Universe, in its recent second season for nothing. It’s clear that showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, who are developing various other projects for Disney Plus, have big plans for him, and those plans may involve casting Robert Downey Jr.
A bunch of reports have come out recently claiming that Rdj is in discussions to switch the Marvel universe for the Star Wars galaxy and embody the character of Thrawn. Obviously, this has grabbed folks’ attention and fans have a range of opinions on the idea of the Iron Man star donning blue makeup to potentially portray the Imperial antagonist.
For starters, a lot of people love this left-field bit of casting and couldn’t be more excited by the possibility.

However, in terms of both volume and legacy, Star Wars has always done a great job with nefarious figures. Ever since the supremely evil...

While Disney originally didn’t care much about the Star Wars Expanded Universe and its numerous overarching narratives, Lucasfilm has recently shown an inclination to canonize some of the lore now that the Skywalker Saga has come to a close.
To that end, J.J. Abrams incorporated several references to a couple of the legendary Sith Lords from the days of the Old Republic in The Rise of Skywalker, including the fan favorite Darth Revan. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni then took this further in The Mandalorian and Star Wars Rebels, respectively, by writing in Admiral Thrawn from the Heir to the Empire trilogy of novels. This narrative is generally held in high regard by fans and many of them believe, in fact, that it’s some of the best Star Wars out there.

If there’s been one big trend in this season of “The Mandalorian,” is that every obvious theory fans dismiss because there’s no way the show will do that… is exactly what the show ends up doing. Whether it’s Ahsoka showing up at the beginning of her episode, or name-dropping Thrawn, it has become clear this show isn’t afraid to go big. This is to say, that Luke Skywalker showing up was something we kind of should have seen coming.

Spoiler Alert: This recap of “The Rescue”, the season 2 finale of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, contains major reveals.
No Baby Yoda didn’t get turned to the dark side of the force, and he did not die aboard Moff Gideon’s ship as Mando, with the help of Bo-Katan, Koska Reeves, Cara Dune, and Fennec Shand make their way to the Imperial vessel. Mando wants The Child back, and Bo-Katan wants the Darksaber and Gideon’s head, as well as his spaceship. However, Cara wants the Imperial Boss alive in tonight’s gripping season 2 finale which was directed by Peyton Reed and written by series creator Jon Favreau.
So what went down in arguably the most breathtaking Mandalorian episode to date?
Luke Skywalker (a young CGI’ed version of Mark Hamill not unlike the young Carrie Fisher we saw in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and R2-D2 show...

The Mandalorian season 2 finale is poised to be the series’ biggest episode yet. Mando and the cruel Moff Gideon are set up for a rematch, and this time, the stakes are higher than ever before, with little Grogu’s life hanging in the balance.
Fortunately, Mando won’t be taking on the Empire on his own. He’ll have help from Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and Cara Dune, but is that enough? Gideon not only commands a brigade of stormtroopers but also has the fearsome dark troopers at his disposal as well as the Darksaber. Even for the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunters, those odds may be too great. That’s why some fans believe the stage is set for one last big cameo that could turn things in Mando’s favor.

After being name-dropped in The Mandalorian, it’s now almost certain that a live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn is coming soon to Star Wars. First introduced in Timothy Zahn’s 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, the Imperial military strategist quickly became one of the most fearsome villains in the extended universe and a firm fan favorite. As such, it wasn’t a huge surprise when he was brought into the Disney canon in the third season of Star Wars Rebels.
In the current continuity, Thrawn was last seen being carried into hyperspace along with Ezra. The pair’s whereabouts are unclear, though we know at least the big bad is still alive as Ahsoka’s ongoing mission is to hunt him down. This means he’s probably set to be the antagonist of the recently unveiled Ahsoka Tano Disney+ show and folks are eagerly wondering who’s going to step into his impeccably tailored uniform.

The mention of Grand Admiral Thrawn in the latest chapter of The Mandalorian likely threw a lot of people into a tizzy since not only had we just witnessed the emergence of Ahsoka, but the utterance of Thrawn’s name was great since it does mean that there’s at least a chance that we’ll get to see the Chiss admiral at some point, but how he could fit into Din Djarin’s story is hard to imagine at this point largely because he’s been an Imperial for some time and there’s no denying that Din wants to steer clear of any Imperial

In terms of pure fan service, “The Jedi” was the most substantial episode of The Mandalorian by far. Rosario Dawson’s debut as Ahsoka Tano generated exactly the sort of reaction from folks that Lucasfilm would have been expecting, as the beloved animated character made an incredible live-action bow. If that wasn’t enough, Snips named-dropped Grand Admiral Thrawn for good measure, sending audiences familiar with The Clone Wars and Rebels into raptures.
There are only two episodes of the current season left, though, and there’s still a whole lot of storytelling ground to cover, so it seems very unlikely that we’ll see the nefarious villain who goes by Mitth’raw’nuruodo on a Sunday showing up in The Mandalorian until next year at the earliest. If you read Timothy Zahn’s groundbreaking 1991 Star Wars novel, Heir to the Empire, then you’re familiar with this description of Grand Admiral Thrawn. And now that Thrawn has been name-dropped on The Mandalorian, there’s every reason to believe that some version of his story from Heir to the Empire is being rebooted, and is not-so-secretly happening at the edges of the galaxy while Mando tries to find some more Jedi for Grogu to have telepathic chats with.

Last week’s episode of The Mandalorian was a major one, as it saw the debut of Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano. Not only that, but it teased the arrival of another fan favorite character from the animated side of the Star Wars universe, too.
Ahsoka was revealed to be on the tail of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the blue-skinned imperial villain who played a major role on Star Wars Rebels. The foe got a name-check, so it stands to reason that we’ll eventually see him on the show, but who could bring him to life?
Well, an epic piece of fan art imagines Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch inhabiting the part. The design, which you can see below, comes from digital artist ApexForm, who wrote in his Instagram caption:
“With recent revelations in @themandalorian chapter 13, it’s only a matter of time before we see the live action debut of Admiral Thrawn.

“The Mandalorian” has been full of Easter eggs and references to the broader “Star Warrs” mythos, but few reveals could match the excitement that stemmed from the live-action debut of Ahsoka Tano (Rosaria Dawson) on the show last week.
While “The Mandalorian” marks the character’s first live-action appearance, Ahsoka has become a staple part of the “Star Wars” franchise throughout the last decade and has appeared in a handful of popular animated television shows. Today, Ahsoka is one of the most popular “Star Wars” characters, but that wasn’t always destined to be the case. Ahsoka made her franchise debut via the 2008 critically-panned “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” film. Ahsoka was introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan, or Jedi apprentice, but film reviewers took issue with the character’s personality and design. Thankfully for Ahsoka, fans and critics began warming up to the character as she continued to appear in subsequent “Star Wars” media.

Baby Yoda's backstory - and name! - have finally been revealed on The Mandalorian, which raises a new question: who's going to train Grogu? Thanks to a few oblique hints in the most recent episode, and the presence of the surviving Jedi Ahsoka Tano, we've got at least one theory: Ezra Bridger, a powerful Jedi friend of Ahsoka's from the animated Star Wars Rebels TV show. It's far from confirmed, but we think there are a few clues that hint how Ezra might make a major return and assist Grogu in learning to use the Force.
The first indirect hint that Ezra may play into The Mandalorian comes when Ahsoka defeats the episode's baddie, Imperial loyalist Morgan Elsbeth, in a one-on-one battle. She demands to know the location of Elsbeth's "master" - Grand Admiral Thrawn, a big-time Imperial villain best known for being one of the main antagonists in Star Wars Rebels.

The Mandalorian has finally brought Ahsoka Tano to live action, and her epic introductory episode also reveals what she's been up to: searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn. While viewers who have only seen the Star Wars movies might not know who that is, fans of the animated TV shows know that Thrawn is very, very bad news, and an old enemy of Ahsoka's who might still be stirring up trouble.
Throughout the episode, Ahsoka is battling with Morgan Elsbeth, a woman who has significant ties and loyalties to the remnants of the Empire, over some piece of information that Elsbeth has and Ahsoka wants. Eventually, Ahsoka defeats Elsbeth in a fight and demands information about Elsbeth's "master," Grand Admiral Thrawn. The episode ends without confirming for us whether or not Elsbeth gives up any of the information Ahsoka wants, but the mere fact that Thrawn is still out there is not a good thing.

Baby Yoda has a big adventure ahead of him. In Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian, “The Jedi,” the audience and Din Djarin both learn two important pieces of information. First, the kid’s name is Grogu. Perhaps it’ll catch on as well as Baby Yoda did? Second, Ahsoka Tano tells Din to take the Force-sensitive toddler to the old Jedi Temple on the planet Tython, where he’ll be able to reach out to other Jedi across the galaxy.
Din Djarin has plenty of reason to continue this journey with the baby. He’s grown to love Grogu, who at first reminded the Mandalorian of himself when he discovered the kid as an orphan on Arvala-7. But when it comes to the Force, Din doesn’t understand what the kid is feeling. It would take a Jedi teacher to foster his powers,...

Ever since it was first announced that Rosario Dawson had been cast as Ahsoka Tano to bring the fan favorite animated character into live-action, most people widely accepted a solo spinoff as an inevitability. After all, former Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted that The Mandalorian would serve as the basis for the next generation of Star Wars adventures, and following the wildly different yet equally divisive reactions to The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm are better off focusing their attentions away from the big screen for at least a little while.

The Mandalorian brings a fan-favorite Jedi from Star Wars animation to live action in “The Jedi,” which takes us to the wasteland planet of Corvus, where an Imperial warlord rules with an iron fist. Along the way, we learn more about Baby Yoda’s origin as well as where the show might be headed. We also get some pretty neat callbacks to the classic films of Japanese auteur Akira Kurosawa.
Here are all of the easter eggs and Star Wars references we’ve found in “The Jedi” so far:

As if she simply leapt out of the animated series and onto The Mandalorian, Ahsoka looks almost exactly like she did on Rebels, wearing similar attire and armed with the white lightsabers she used before the Galactic Civil War.

Drawing on his love for Japanese cinema and his deep understanding of the Star Wars canon he helped create, writer and director Dave Filoni has truly become a master.
The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda arrive at the city of Calodan on the planet Corvus, as Bo-Katan instructed in “The Heiress.” It’s a downtrodden place. Frightened citizens hide away from the punishment they might draw down for speaking to an outsider. Today’s the day that Star Wars fans have been waiting for since The Mandalorian season 2 kicked off. Yes, Ahsoka Tano has finally made her debut on the hit show, as played by Rosario Dawson.
Episode 2×05, titled “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” sees Pedro Pascal’s bounty hunter team up with the fan favorite heroine as part of the latest leg of his journey to take Baby Yoda to the Jedi and it wastes no time in introducing Ahsoka. The opening scene sees her storm the city of Calodan on the dead forest planet of Corvus, resulting in an awesome action sequence where the former Padawan of Anakin Skywalker gets to show off her dual white lightsabers.
We first glimpse Ahsoka through the mist, wearing a hooded cloak, similar to her look in the final scene of Rebels. She then confronts the tyrannical Magistrate and takes her hood down, revealing just...

Spoiler Alert: This recap reveals details about today’s Disney+ drop of The Mandalorian Chapter 13: “The Jedi”, directed and written by Dave Filoni.
Christmas came early to Star Wars fans as Rosario Dawson finally made her appearance as Clone Wars fave character, Jedi Ahsoka Tano, on Disney+’s The Mandalorian.
We knew Mando was bound to meet Ahsoka, as Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan advised the bounty hunter to track her down on the forest planet of Corvus; Mando yearning to reunite The Child, aka Baby Yoda, with his Jedi kin. And while we could expect tonight that Ahsoka would be wielding double lightsabers and slicing through her enemies like butter, the character provided Mando, as well as us, a major download as to who exactly The Child is.
After Mando tracks down Ahsoka in the burnt-down forest planet, she reads The Child’s mind and learns that his name is Grogu.

Last year, former Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted that The Mandalorian could serve as the launchpad for the next generation of Star Wars projects, which was music to the ears of the many fans that felt the Sequel Trilogy left a lot to be desired. After all, there are almost limitless possibilities when it comes to a galaxy far, far away, but for over 40 years the studio had been repeatedly telling us that every major event is directly tied to the Skywalker family in some way.
With Mando’s second run set to dive deeper into the canon and hand live-action debuts to animated favorites Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan, the show appears to be aiming to find a balance between recognizable characters and iconography while also telling an original and fresh story. There’s been no shortage of names from both The Clone Wars and Rebels rumored to be getting...
