The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has opened in theaters all around the world, from Mongolia to Paraguay, Serbia to Venezuela. Basically, Bilbo and his band of brave dwarves are everywhere. This means we can at long last get some idea of what it was like for the natives of New Zealand during the 266 days it took to shoot Peter Jackson's latest J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired trilogy. Reportedly enlisting a small army of set builders, actors, visual effects specialists, and production assistants, the nation was practically overrun by all things Hobbit last year. An NHS dentist and part-time opera singer has won a record deal for an album of pop covers. Andrew Bain's debut release, expected in September, will feature The Smiths' 'How Soon Is Now?', 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol and Abba's 'The Winner Takes It All'.
