- He was a Canadian timber wolf-Alaskan Malamute hybrid. His mother was a captive Vancouver Island wolf from British Columbia's Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. His father was an Alaskan Malamute originally from Juneau, Alaska's Gastineau Humane Society.
- Jed was born at the Whatcom Humane Society in Bellingham, Washington. His caretaker was Gary Winkler until Winkler generously gave the wolf dog to Clint Rowe for cinematic filming productions.
