When was the last time a simple compliment had the power to totally change your day? Have you ever been in a state of self-doubt, only to be lifted by the unexpected kindness of co-workers? That is exactly the touching story Anne Hathaway told about her time on the set of Gary Ross’ Ocean’s 8, a film about a group of female thieves.
It would seem that the glamour of the A-list cast, which featured Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Rihanna, would eclipse one’s own insecurities. However, Hathaway’s candid recounting of the ‘comments’ when she was feeling insecure about her weight speaks volumes about the supportive spirit among these leading ladies.

Actor Anne Hathaway has played a variety of roles since her breakthrough film The Princess Diaries. Not too long ago, she joined Sandra Bullock and many other stars for the action thriller Ocean’s 8. She not only enjoyed her time on the feature, but was pleasantly surprised by the sisterhood she experienced there.

Hathaway found herself playing a bad guy in the 2018 feature Ocean’s 8. Similar to its predecessors led by Brad Pitt, Ocean’s 8 featured a team of women brought together for a major bank heist. Hathaway’s character would be the target for the professional thieves, which included the likes of Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Rihanna. But although Hathaway wouldn’t be teaming up with the other actors onscreen, there was plenty of solidarity between her and her co-stars behind the scenes.

If there is one thing that has continually distinguished Universal Pictures it is its monster legacy, a genre of films the studio has done since its beginnings with classics featuring Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy and The Invisible Man. The latter is the latest to attempt a reboot as Universal continues efforts to revive its prized franchises, albeit with mixed results in recent years. But with this critically acclaimed effort, it has succeeded beyond all expectations.
Director-writer Leigh Whannell explains just how when he joined his star Elisabeth Moss in conversation during Universal’s panel at Deadline’s Contenders Film award-season presentation.
“The trick was not to think about that legacy,” he says. “With this I felt a bit more freedom because the original is a much older film shot in black and white and only with effects available at that time. I felt that if I approached this as the...

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars and not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.
Today we don our phoenix tattoos, we get honest with ourselves, we blaze our very own comeback trail talking Ben Affleck! With his drama The Way Back in theaters, we discuss four past B-Sides you may have missed: 1999’s Sandy Bullock-meets-Ben rom-com Forces of Nature, 2000’s Gwyneth-meets-Ben high-concept romance Bounce, 2002’s Sam Jackson-meets-Ben thriller Changing Lanes and, last-but-least, 2006’s Ben-plays-Superman noir Hollywoodland. In between these B-sides exists the movie star’s career nadir, including Gigli, Paycheck, and Surviving Christmas (which we already discussed in our holiday episode). Conor and I are joined by Marie Bardi (@mariebardi), New York-based producer and avowed Ben Affleck fan.

Hollywood star Brad Pitt has joined the stars who turned down actor Keanu Reeves' role in "The Matrix".
Pitt reflected on the parts he passed over while accepting the Maltin Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in California on January 22, 2020, and said he was up for the character of Neo in the 1999 blockbuster, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Pitt said: "I really believe it (part) was never mine. It's someone else's and they go and make it. I really do believe in that... but I did pass on 'The Matrix'."
Will Smith, Nicolas Cage, Val Kilmer, Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp were also in talks to star in the film, which spawned two sequels and last year 2019, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told a portal The Wrap that even Sandra Bullock was approached to front the film.

Whoa!
Dystopian sci-fi classic The Matrix recently celebrated its 20 year anniversary and it’s safe to say there’s still a viable market for its uber-cool brand of futuristic cyberpunk action. Though talk of a possible reboot at Warner Bros. has somewhat simmered down, there’s still a possibility that the studio is in the process of pursuing a sequel. Nonetheless, a fascinating piece of casting news has recently come to light courtesy of Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a Hollywood mega producer who was instrumental in getting the original 1999 movie off the ground.
Interestingly, when the pic was in early development, key filmmakers – The Wachowskis – found it difficult to get the script into the right people’s hands. Thankfully, di Bonaventura wholeheartedly believed in the project and as a result, the producer pushed for the film to be fast-tracked at Warner Bros. His one caveat, though, was that a major star...
