“Looking for Subculture?” asks a bouncer at the L.A. club Catch One. “In more ways than one,” I reply as I pull out my ticket to the hyperpop rave happening inside. As a turquoise band is wrapped around my wrist, an artist named Babylungs, who’s dressed like a cybergoth hosting a Pride party at Chuck E. Cheese in the year 2040, walks to the front of the line. Their makeup includes abstract graphics painted above and below their eyes, and two of their pink braids stand erect on top of their head,...

After releasing “Cruel Intentions,” a song about the “crazy explosion” of her last breakup, Gia Woods just wanted to “party the pain away.” To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the Persian pop star returned on Tuesday to take fans through the aftermath of a relationship’s end with a Tidal Sessions performance of her album Heartbreak County, Pt. 2.
“I wanted the visuals to be straightforward, raw, and show exactly what each song makes me feel,” says Woods when describing the video, which premieres with Rolling Stone. “Heartbreak County Vol. 2 is a...

Gia Woods is all about perfect timing. The Persian pop artist was discovered while singing in her high school choir class and has since become a strong voice in the LGBTQ+ community. Woods released her debut single, "Only a Girl," in 2016, which doubled as her coming out anthem. Since its release, the song has reached millions of streams across platforms.
"I took a bit of a break after 'Only a Girl' because I was caught off guard. I wasn't expecting it to have the impact that it did," Woods tells Popsugar. "I didn't want to rush into putting more music out. I wanted to take my time and hone in on my sound." During this time, the Los Angeles-raised artist created her first EP, "Heartbreak County Vol. 1." The four-song project was released in 2021 and captures the lonelier side of Los Angeles that isn't often talked about. "Everyone comes to LA,...

For the kick-off party for “L.A.’s Finest,” the cop drama that’s the first show to debut out of Charter’s Spectrum Originals group, the operator didn’t want the usual red-carpet treatment.
Instead, Spectrum Originals is staging a variety-show-themed festival on Saturday, May 11, bringing in comedians, musicians and food vendors — along with show stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba — to an invite-only event at NeueHouse Hollywood.
To produce the unconventional event, Spectrum Originals turned to an unconventional partner: Attn:, the digital-media startup-up focused on “purpose-driven” content for millennial audiences. It’s a new business line for the L.A.-based company through the recently formed Attn: Moment unit, focused solely on events and experiential activations. Last fall, Attn: hired Lana Van Brunt, formerly head of experiential marketing at Vice Media, to run the group.
“I couldn’t think of a better partner to collaborate with for the launch of ‘L.
