True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

Chris Rock (“Fargo”) and Nicole Kidman (“The Undoing”) sat down for a virtual chat for Variety‘s Actors on Actors. For more, click here.
Chris Rock, it turns out, loves Nicole Kidman as much as the rest of us do. During a conversation with the Oscar-winning star of “The Hours,” Rock reeled off a few favorite Kidman performances — from “To Die For” to “Destroyer” (which he called a “drugged-up cop” movie) — before confessing that he’d watched basically everything she’s ever done. And he’s already lining up to buy tickets for “Being the Ricardos,” the Aaron Sorkin film in which Kidman plays Lucille Ball opposite Javier Bardem’s Desi Arnaz.
Even in the middle of filming as Lucy, Kidman held up her end of the bargain. She’s been bingeing the fourth season of Noah Hawley’s FX on Hulu anthology series “Fargo,” in which Rock plays 1950s crime boss Loy Cannon.

“Telling a story about that lifestyle in New York was one of the reasons why I was attracted to the project in the first place,” says director Susanne Bier about telling the story of a murder mystery among wealthy Manhattanites in “The Undoing.” The filmmaker has found herself in the city “looking up at those amazing apartments along Central Park, and I’ve been incredibly curious about what is the life there.” We talked with Bier as part of our “Meet the Experts” TV directors panel. Watch our interview above.
The story centers around Grace Fraser (Nicole Kidman), a successful therapist whose husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant), an esteemed pediatric oncologist, becomes the prime suspect in a grisly murder. The crime forces her to reconsider what she thought she knew about her family and her community. Bier “was also intrigued by portraying the rot of that world in a way. And...

With victories for “The Piano Lesson” in 1996 and “Miss Evers’ Boys” in 1998, Alfre Woodard became the first double winner of the best TV movie/limited series actress prize at the SAG Awards. Only two actresses (Helen Mirren and Queen Latifah) have matched her feat since, and now Nicole Kidman (“The Undoing”) is looking to join the club.
Kidman faces off against Cate Blanchett (“Mrs. America”), Michaela Coel (“I May Destroy You”), Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Queen’s Gambit”) and Kerry Washington (“Little Fires Everywhere”). Kidman previously won this award for “Big Little Lies” in 2018. Coel and Taylor-Joy are SAG newcomers, while Blanchett has earned three wins for feature film performances. Washington was recognized in this category in 2017 for her role in “Confirmation,” but she has yet to win a SAG Award.

Golden Globes viewers got a rare look at Nicole Kidman with husband Keith Urban and their two young daughters. During co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's opening monologue at the start of the annual awards ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 28, they joked around about a few of the nominees, including Nicole, who is up for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture for her role as Grace Fraser in HBO's The Undoing. "The Undoing was a sexy and dramatic mystery where Nicole Kidman's coat is suspected of murdering her wig," Amy quipped. During the joke, the camera showed Nicole and Keith on the couch with daughters Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 12, and Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, 10....

The far-and-away front-runner in our Golden Globes odds, Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” looks unbeatable in the Best TV Movie/Limited Series category, judging from the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. But not so fast, I say! It’s nominated against Amazon’s “Small Axe,” Netflix’s “Unorthodox,” HBO’s “The Undoing” and Hulu’s “Normal People,” which trail it in that exact order in our odds. Here are six reasons why you should have “The Undoing” much higher in your predictions and shouldn’t be shocked if it snatches the “Queen’s” predestined crown.

If you watched The Undoing, you know there were many stars in the hit show. There was Nicole Kidman as Grace Fraser, the wronged wife at the center of the series. There was Hugh Grant as Jonathan Fraser, her husband-turned-suspect in his lover's murder trial. There were also an array of supporting players—Édgar Ramírez as Detective Joe Mendoza, Noah Jupe as their son, Henry Fraser; Lily Rabe as their friend, Sylvia Steinetz; and, of course, Matilda De Angelis as the deceased Elena Alves. But, among the all-star cast was another emerging star not listed in the credits: Grace Fraser's fabulous coat collection. Ever since the camera zoomed...

2021 Golden Globe Final Predictions:
Best Actress In A Limited Series Or TV Movie
Updated: Feb. 24, 2021
Awards Commentary:
What a year for Anya Taylor-Joy. “The Queen’s Gambit” star is a double nominee at this year’s Golden Globes, both in the best actress in a limited series or TV movie category, as well as in the best actress in a motion picture (comedy or musical) field for “Emma.” Not bad, and clearly the HFPA members are fans — which is why she’s the front runner in this category. But as we’re predicting “The Queen’s Gambit” will be named best limited series or TV movie, it makes sense the program’s star would also be honored. The show hit the zeitgeist at the right time,...

If you’re HBO, with a perpetually deep bench for prestige TV players, you always have something to be thankful for when it comes to garnering accolades. But what makes the elite awards player particularly interesting as we head into the Winter TV Awards season is that its 2020 slate seems to lack a shoo-in contender to lead the charge.
“Game of Thrones” is long gone, but HBO still cobbled together a wildly successful year at the Emmys, taking home 30 awards total, including big prizes in limited series for “Watchmen” and drama series for “Succession.” But despite their September celebration, there doesn’t appear to be a single series that has simultaneously garnered widespread critical acclaim while also capturing the cultural imagination.

Take a look at Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, star of the dramatic miniseries, "The Undoing" on HBO, posing for "Marie Claire" (Australia) magazine, photographed by Jake Terry:
"...'Grace Fraser' (Kidman) is living the only life she ever wanted for herself. She's a successful therapist on the brink of publishing her first book, has a devoted husband and young son who attends an elite private school in New York City.
"Weeks before her book is published, a chasm opens in her life; a violent death, a missing husband and in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations.
"Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice...

Although the swearing-in of President-elect Joe Biden is just about six weeks away, President Donald Trump has still been dominating the news, most recently with a hearing regarding allegations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Naturally, for “Saturday Night Live’s” first show back after a few week hiatus, the late-night sketch comedy series led with a satirization of that televised event, featuring Kate McKinnon as Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, Cecily Strong as “star witness” Melissa Carone and Chloe Fineman as “Nicole Kidman’s character from ‘The Undoing'” (aka Grace Fraser).
McKinnon began the sketch, which you can watch above, by saying it was exciting to “just be in a courtroom where I’m not the defendant.” Planning to “prove” that the election was stolen “with a level of trickery” not seen since Harry Houdini, McKinnon’s Giuliani was interrupted by fart noises that the character claimed “wasn...

HBO's miniseries The Undoing came to an end with a dramatic series finale on Nov. 29, in which we discovered that the answer to Elena Alves's killer was right in front of us the entire time - the obvious suspect, Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant). While the series wrapped up most of our questions, fans are already asking for more. But it seems like everyone from the actors to the creators all have different opinions about whether or not we'll see the story continue.
Nicole Kidman, the star behind Grace Fraser, doesn't think a second season is necessary. "It's not like a drama series where you're not quite sure how they're going to evolve and you have a next season," she told Entertainment Weekly. "That's why I say it's like cinema, because you have a beginning, middle, and end." But speaking with The New York Times, creator David E. Kelley had an...

It seems like the entire internet was collectively holding its breath Sunday night as we kicked off the series finale of The Undoing. By episode six, we were all grasping at straws accusing everyone from Grace Fraser's (Nicole Kidman) teen son Henry (Noah Jupe) to literally any other human that graced the screen. And while there were countless theories and guesses about who Elena Alves's killer was, there was one consistent thought: what is the deal with Grace's lawyer friend Sylvia (Lily Rabe)?
Underneath her endless support and being a great friend, there was just something about her demeanor that screamed guilty. Was she in on it with Grace? Was she the other unnamed woman that Jonathan (Hugh Grant) slept with? But as we all approached the final minutes of the finale on the edge of our seats, it turned out Sylvia actually was just a really damn good friend.

HBO's The Undoing managed to wrap up season one with a nice bow during Sunday's finale. After weeks of trying to figure out who was responsible for the murder of Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis), it was finally confirmed that Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant) was, in fact, the killer. Even though we got the closure we needed from the season finale, many fans are still wondering whether there'll be a season two, and the answer to that seems to be a no.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Susanne Bier noted that the decision to make the series six episodes was intentional. "This is a tight story, which is why I think six hours is perfect," Bier explained. "There's something about six that has a natural arc."

HBO's The Undoing is basically one twist after another. In the premiere episode of the six-part miniseries, Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis) is brutally murdered, and now it looks like Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant) may be responsible for her death. Not only that, but it turns out, he's the father of her newborn daughter.
If you've read Jean Hanff Korelitz's You Should Have Known, the novel on which the show is based, then you probably already knew that Jonathan was the father. In the second episode, we find out that Jonathan was secretly having an affair with Elena prior to her death, and Elena's husband, Fernando Alves (Ismael Cruz Córdova), demanded a paternity test, insisting to police that he's not the father of Elena's baby. Shortly after, we see Grace Fraser (Nicole Kidman) having visions of Jonathan and Elena having sex, which was probably writer David E. Kelley...

Photo: 'The Undoing'/HBO How much do you trust your husband? Your friends? Yourself? Every great mystery keeps you guessing and HBO’s new psychological thriller miniseries, The Undoing, is one wild ride of gasps and question marks. Based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2014 novel, You Should Have Known, HBO’s The Undoing is a fresh take on the thriller genre. The story follows the life of a contemporary renaissance woman, Grace Fraser, a wife, mother, therapist, and active member of New York high society. Grace appears to be satisfied with, if not slightly bored by, the life she has built for herself until she makes a new friend, Elena Alves, and everything changes. That is basically as much of the story that we can divulge without roaming into the treacherous spoiler territory, but with a story as chaotic as this, it is best to simply go in cold turkey...

The world is crumbling around Grace Fraser.
She went from being a woman who believed she had a perfect life with a perfect husband to discovering that everything she thought she knew about the man she was married to was untrue.
The Undoing Season 1 Episode 2 found Grace standing tall but stumbling in her convictions with so much uncertainty suddenly at her doorstep.
The red flags about Jonathan keep on waving, whether he's nearby or not. There isn't much about the man that spells warm and caring, the characteristics that Grace described to Detective Mendoza.
Franklin: Still no word from Jonathan?
Grace: No.
Franklin: I guess it's safe to assume he's not in Cleveland.

Flag after flag was raised, but one of the first and one with which I have personal experience was that Jonathan has never been a good communicator.

With 15 Golden Globe nominations and five victories under her belt, it’s no (big little) secret that Nicole Kidman is a Hollywood Foreign Press Association darling. After bagging her last acting award for David E. Kelley‘s HBO series “Big Little Lies” in Best TV Movie/Limited Actress in 2018, she is poised to hit the jackpot in that exact category once again thanks to another one of Kelley’s HBO efforts, “The Undoing,” a six-part miniseries that is based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2014 novel “You Should Have Known” and debuted on Sunday, October 25.
Directed by Susanne Bier, the show centers on Kidman’s character, Grace Fraser, who lives a most idyllic life in New York City as a successful therapist about to publish her first book, a wife to her devoted husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) and loving mother to their son Henry (Noah Jupe). Nicole Kidman stars as Grace Fraser on HBO's latest mystery drama series, The Undoing, and if you tuned in to the Oct. 25 premiere, there's a reason the theme song sounded so familiar: it's Kidman singing! The 53-year-old actress performs a special rendition of "Dream a Little Dream of Me" for the opening title sequence of the six-episode show. In a recent interview with USA Today, Kidman discussed how the whole thing came about, explaining that series director Susanne Bier came to her with the opportunity during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
"We were meant to release the show in April, then everything happened and we couldn't get the show finished in time. So, in that time time of lockdown, Susanne called me and said, 'Would you sing the title credits?' And I was like, 'No, of course not. We're in lockdown, I can't,'" Nicole said.

Nicole Kidman is really good at playing characters that keep us guessing. And as Grace Fraser in HBO's The Undoing, she's at her best. The new six-episode psychological thriller, which premiered on Oct. 25, takes viewers on a whodunit-style wild ride that delivers unexpected plot twists and turns we legit didn't see coming. Brought to us by Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley, it's impossible to a) not draw parallels between both shows and b) describe The Undoing's full plot without revealing how it unfolds. The gist? Kidman plays Grace, an incredibly elegant and rich therapist who is married to a charming and successful oncologist named Jonathan (Hugh Grant), the father of their only...

HBO’s new series “The Undoing” marks the first time Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant have worked together, but becoming the married couple at the center of the series didn’t take too much effort.
“I remember the read-through when we first came to New York,” Kidman tells Variety. “We read all of it in one sitting, didn’t we, which was a great way of doing it … because we just had to jump in and it was really fun and then I remember going to get a cup of tea with [Grant] and asking me lots of really personal questions. I was like, ‘Here we go.’”
Based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s bestselling novel “You Should Have Known” and created by David E. Kelley, “The Undoing” stars Kidman as Grace Fraser, a New York City psychotherapist whose life unravels when her pediatric oncologist husband Jonathan [Grant] is accused of a gruesome murder.

"The Undoing" is the new miniseries thriller, based on the 2014 novel "You Should Have Known" by Jean Hanff Korelitz, directed by Susanne Bier, starring Nicole Kidman as 'Grace Fraser', Hugh Grant as 'Mike Fraser' and Édgar Ramírez as 'Detective Joe Mendoza', premiering October 25, 2020 on HBO:
"...'Grace Fraser' (Kidman) is living the only life she ever wanted for herself. She's a successful therapist on the brink of publishing her first book, has a devoted husband and young son who attends an elite private school in New York City.
"Weeks before her book is published, a chasm opens in her life; a violent death, a missing husband and in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice,...

You only need to look at Susanne Bier’s credits in both film & TV to know that new murder mystery mini-series The Undoing has been left in extremely capable hands. The Danish director, who was recently behind The Night Manager and Bird Box, presents this new, thrilling drama that stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.
We had the pleasure of speaking to Bier, in an extended interview slot, to discuss this impressive new show, as she tells us the joy in having the ability to direct all six episodes, which is something of a rarity when it comes to TV, and whether she perceives it as one long film, or treated the experience episodically. She also talks about the fantastic cast, and collaborating with Nicole Kidman, while she discusses shooting on location in New York, and whether she misses travelling this year or if she’s actually rather enjoyed a little time at home.

If you didn't feel uncomfortable after watching The Undoing Season 1 Episode 1, then you and I might have been watching different shows.
Hugh Grant, once known for his affable roles as the bumbling male love interest in many romantic comedies, ensured that Jonathan Fraser seemed just this side of a skeevy psychopath.
Nicole Kidman's Grace Fraser would do well to consider her own advice when it comes to her missing husband.
The Undoing works hard trying to sell Grace and Jonathan as a happy, healthy married couple. It tries too hard. So when the beautiful Elena goes missing after a strange fixation on Grace, it's not tough to imagine that Jonathan might have been acquainted with the woman.
It's interesting that on two HBO shows, I've been fascinated with Nicole Kidman characters and psychological analysis.
On Big Little Lies, Kidman played a woman struggling with her part in an abusive marriage.

Your Moulin Rouge-adoring mind was not playing tricks on you: That was indeed Undoing star and exec producer Nicole Kidman singing a cover of “Dream a Little Dream of Me” in the HBO limited series’ opening title sequence (watch here).
The song choice is, of course, drenched in irony given the David E. Kelley-penned thriller’s dark premise and, you know, foreboding title. But for the first half of Sunday’s premiere, Kidman’s moneyed Manhattanite Grace Fraser was living something of a fantasy life, even if director Susanne Bier’s haunting vision of New York in winter foreshadowed the nightmare to come.

Cutting to the chase, which is something “The Undoing” never does: HBO’s new limited series is not worth your time. Unless you’re an aspiring Hugh Grant-aissance completist, David E. Kelley’s latest attempt to recapture that “Big Little Lies” magic falls flatter than a marmalade sandwich minus the marmalade. Shot like a pulpy ’90s erotic thriller by Susanne Bier and stretched thinner than the Netflix version it echoes (remember “Gypsy”?), there’s very little entertainment to be had here, and even less of a purpose.
Still, respect must be paid to the Grant-aholics. Given the mounds of goodwill (and awards buzz) he’s earned for his latest work, I, too, might be tempted to take a peek at his latest prestige turn, so the following review will be as light as possible on spoilers.

When Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, writer David E. Kelley, and friends all came together to make the first season of Big Little Lies, it was a television event, and one where the quality lived up to the star power in front of and behind the camera. Little of what anyone in the group has done since then — including the unnecessary second season — has lived up to that, though those various projects often can’t help but evoke Lies.

Nicole Kidman walking in Central Park with a brisk wind flowing through her hair. A close up of her eye. A close up of her hand. A dramatic swing of the accompanying score as it’s clear her character, Grace Fraser, is going through something emotionally taxing. But if you were Grace, the events of “The Undoing,” a new limited series debuting on HBO this Sunday night, might have you more stressed out than a sane person attending a mask-less White House Rose Garden event.

With Nicole Kidman starring in a HBO drama written by David E. Kelley, it’s easy to imagine The Undoing as a sort of Big Little Lies spinoff, with Kidman’s Celeste moving from Monterey to New York City and finding love again with Hugh Grant after that unfortunate Perry situation. (Hey, she deserves it!) But The Undoing — premiering Sunday, Oct. 25 at 9/8c; I’ve seen five of the six episodes — is a different animal altogether. It’s more of a conventional thriller than Big Little Lies was, favoring plot over character as it spins a twist-laden murder mystery. And...

Nicole Kidman kept us on the edge of our seats on Big Little Lies, but she's about to push us all the way off on her new HBO show, The Undoing. On March 8, the network released a new teaser for the murder mystery, featuring Grace Fraser (Kidman), a successful New York-based therapist and author who suddenly finds herself engulfed in an investigation when she's connected to a violent death and a missing husband, amid a series of devastating revelations. "You either read me my rights right now or tell me I'm free to go," Grace says in an interrogation room before the clip previews a handful of tumultuous omens.

If you’re dying for a third season of “Big Little Lies,” well, you’ll be waiting for a very long time.
“There isn’t really [any discussion of a third season],” Nicole Kidman shared at Wednesday’s Television Critics Association winter press tour for her new HBO limited series “The Undoing,” which she’s also executive-producing with “Big Little Lies” scribe/executive producer David E. Kelley. “We’ve been so focused on this. We would love to, but there are ideas that are further on down the track.”
The Oscar and Emmy winner also cited the cast’s busy schedules as a reason why a third installment might be a long way off. “I mean, you look at Laura [Dern] — I don’t think we’d ever get Laura back,” she joked, referring to Dern’s big 2019 with “Marriage Story,” for which she received an Oscar nomination, and “Little Women.” “She’s working in so many different things right now.
