Rob Liefeld, the comic book creator who has spent decades dreaming up fantastical stories, is ready to put his own story down on the printed page.
Liefeld will pen a memoir titled Robservations, which BenBella Publishing will release early next year. As a creator, Liefeld has had a front-row seat to a number of crucial moments in comics over the past 30 years and promises to offer a candid accounting of what went down.
The book chronicles Liefeld’s trajectory from the son of a preacher in Orange County, California, to becoming a rising star at Marvel in the early 1990s, when his work on titles such as X-Force set sales records. He then went on to help disrupt the industry as one of the founders of Image Comics, which launched in 1992 with the premise that comic book creators could retain the rights to their work. Days after it was announced that Bill Weinstein would be leaving Verve, the agency that he helped found and where he served as CEO, The Hollywood Reporter is now hearing that the agent will be starting his own outfit with several Verve agents following him.
Agents Devon Schiff, Matthew Doyle and Jake Dillman are set to leave the agency, according to sources, joining Weinstein at his new company.
Said Verve in a statement, “We are aware that Bill may be trying to create his own agency and we wish him the best. Since his departure Monday, we have let go of a few additional employees whose visions do not align with the culture and the future of Verve.”

Literary agency Verve has parted ways with CEO Bill Weinstein.
“We thank Bill as a co-founder and for his 14 years of service and wish him nothing but success in his future,” Verve leadership said in a statement Monday.
No reason was given by the agency, although the decision “was made after thoughtful deliberation by Verve’s leadership and approved by Verve’s board and owners,” according to the email announcing the ouster. Some sources have said the move could be financial; the agency, with a strong focus on the literary, was hit hard during the strikes last year. That, coupled with a contraction in television, is hitting many companies and the agency may be no exception. The company rebuffed acquisition overtures from Gersh last summer.
Verve will not be naming a new CEO. The responsibilities of that role will be shared by the founders and managing partner, Liz Parker.

For audiences, television is entertainment, but for the companies behind the scenes, TV is big business. From the late '20s through the early '80s, American Broadcasting Company (ABC), National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) had no lasting competition and they ruled the television landscape. In their heyday, the big three produced loads of classics like "The Three Stooges," "The Lone Ranger," "Gunsmoke," "Howdy Doody," "The Ed Sullivan Show," and "Bonanza," just to name a few. I've never seen an entire episode of any of those shows, but I recognize their names and know, generally, what they are about, which proves they have a firm foothold in popular culture. Cementing such a place in entertainment history is something every television show hopes to do, but doing so got a lot harder in the '90s.

Welcome to “TV Take,” Variety’s television podcast. In this week’s episode, Variety TV critic Caroline Framke talks with Jeanine Mason, star of the CW’s new drama “Roswell, New Mexico.”
The series is the second adaptation of the “Roswell High” book series by Melinda Metz. The first series premiered in 1999 and starred Shiri Appleby as the main character, Liz Parker. However, the CW version of the show reverts the character back to being the Latina Liz Ortecho, as in the novels, a significant choice according to Mason.
“It never struck me as anything other than a great idea to reboot this property, primarily because she’s Liz Ortecho, and that is honoring the book series and there was so much of the story left to explore,” Mason says. “A lot of it lies in the fact that the lead woman is Latina, and she’s ignited, she’s on fire,...

[This story contains spoilers for the series premiere of Roswell, New Mexico on The CW.]
The CW's new series Roswell, New Mexico is not a remake of the 1999 WB/Upn drama that starred Shiri Appleby as teenage heroine Liz Parker. Rather, it's an adaptation of Melinda Metz's original Roswell High book series, whose protagonist was a young Latina named Liz Ortecho.
This small but loaded change speaks volumes about the intent of the new show, which uses the premise of aliens living secretly in the Southwest to tell a startlingly resonant story about fear, division and bigotry in modern America....

Nearly two decades after Liz, Max and the rest of the Roswell gang touched down on The WB, the beloved characters are returning for another close encounter, this time via The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico. So, how does the reboot compare to the original series?

A remake doesn’t necessarily have to justify its existence in this, the age of too much #content, but it’s always a genuine pleasure when it nonetheless makes a great case.
“Roswell, New Mexico” is a canny blend of the two ways that its story — of aliens living on Earth and the humans who may or may not love them — has already been told. The WB’s “Roswell” was an unabashed teen soap that wrung every longing glance out of its high school protagonists. It starred a young Shiri Appleby as human heroine Liz, and while Appleby was promising from the start, the book series “Roswell” was based on (“Roswell High”) had purposefully made Liz Latina. As writers Liz Burns and Melissa Metz said on Twitter last summer, situating the books in New Mexico meant that “the characters were living in a place with a diverse population, one that...
