Bobby Fuller was a brilliant musical talent, but his artistic legacy is as much about what could’ve been as it is about what he accomplished in his far too short life. He was a burgeoning rock and roll star on a chart-topping trajectory before he died at the age of 23 in mysterious circumstances.
Fuller’s death was officially ruled to be a suicide, but the strange details in the case compel some friends and family to believe in various conspiracy theories to rationalize the tragedy.

Everything changed on July 18, 1966. That was the day Fuller was found dead in his mother’s car outside of his Hollywood apartment.
His cold hands held a plastic hose leading to a can of gasoline in the car. The weirdest part is that Fuller’s body was in...

If you were watching TV in February 1975, you may have stumbled across something truly incomprehensible: a cheesy commercial promoting a new John Lennon album “never before available anywhere!” Called Roots: John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits, it was a supposedly new collection of the ex-Beatle’s covers of Fifties and Sixties rock favorites like “Stand by Me” and “Slippin’ and Slidin’.”
When he heard about the ad, Lennon was surprised himself. He’d been working on such an album, which he would call Rock ‘n’ Roll, but...

Pop music star Tommy James and film producer Barbara DeFina are developing the biopic “Me, the Mob and the Music,” based on James’ autobiography.
DeFina, whose credits include Martin Scorsese’s “Casino” and “GoodFellas,” and James have tapped three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall to helm the film adaptation from a screenplay by Matthew Stone (“Intolerable Cruelty”).
James was the leader of Tommy James and the Shondells with No. 1 singles for “Hanky Panky” and “Crimson and Clover” along with a dozen other Top 40 hits, including “I Think We’re Alone Now”, “Mirage”, “Mony Mony”, “Sweet Cherry Wine”, and “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” He has sold an estimated 100 million records.
The book, co-written with Martin Fitzpatrick and published in 2011, centers on James’ years at Roulette Records and his complex and sometimes terrifying relationship with mobster Morris Levy, also known as the “Godfather of the Music Business.” Levy operated through payola and strong-arm tactics.
