Los Angeles magazine has signed with CAA for representation.
The magazine is owned by Engine Vision Media, a company headed by power lawyers Ben Meiselas and Mark Geragos. The duo bought Los Angeles in December 2022 from Detroit-based Hour Media; the deal also included Pasadena and Orange Coast magazines.
CAA will work with the magazine to adapt its stories into scripted and unscripted series and films, along with other media formats.
“I am thrilled to partner with CAA to bring the most interesting stories about the greatest city in the world to an even bigger audience,” Meiselas said in a statement. “CAA is the best in the business.”
Christopher Gialanella is the publisher of Los Angeles, and Shirley Halperin is editor-in-chief. Halperin, former executive editor of music at Variety, joined the magazine in June, taking over for Maer Roshan (who was recently named co-editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter).

Los Angeles Magazine has found its new editor-in-chief: Shirley Halperin.
The respected music industry insider is exiting as executive editor of music at Variety, a post she’s held since 2017, to join L.A. Mag, effective June 15. She’s replacing Maer Roshan who was ousted a month ago by bosses at parent company Engine Vision Media in what has been viewed as a shift in direction for the publication under newly-installed president and publisher Christopher Gialanella.
In confirming the hiring, Engine Vision’s press release noted that Halperin will be tasked with shaping Los Angeles‘ “vision for the future, with a particular emphasis on news and culture.” Furthermore, it stated that Halperin will “lead efforts to celebrate the city’s diversity while keeping current events, politics and sports related to the area relevant. Additionally, she will continue to touch on entertainment, music, society, lifestyle, dining, home, real estate and fashion,...

Maer Roshan is out at Los Angeles magazine.
The editor-in-chief has been ousted after more than four years in the job, during which time he steered a major rebrand of the publication through buzzy, high-impact cover stories and features while expanding the title’s social media footprint.
Roshan’s exit comes directly on the heels of massive shifts on the business side. In December, Los Angeles was acquired by power lawyers and business leaders Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas through their newly launched Engine Vision Media in a deal that also covered Pasadena and Orange Coast magazines. At the time, the pair said they planned to invest in the titles and “provide the resources needed to take them to the next level,” per Geragos.
The deal was welcomed as a shot in the arm by Los Angeles staff, which had been decimated in recent years amid challenges to the media industry.

Los Angeles-based criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos and civil rights lawyer Ben Meiselas have acquired Los Angeles Magazine from Detroit-based Hour Media, the publication confirmed on Monday. The duo formed a new company called Engine Vision Media which will be the parent company under which the flagship publication will run, along with the Pasadena and Orange Coast glossies.
“As someone who was born in downtown Los Angeles and raised in the Pasadena area, it’s a dream to help steward the legacy of these three incredible magazines and provide the resources needed to take them to the next level with a positive vision that celebrates the communities that these magazines serve,” Geragos, co-founder of Engine Vision, said in a statement posted in the Los Angeles Magazine blog.
The publications will keep the existing staff, including the publisher and editors, and will operate in Downtown L.A., where it is headquartered.

Almost four years after the organizers of the disastrous Fyre Festival were hit with class action lawsuits, a settlement has been reached between organizers and 277 attendees of the instantly infamous fest.
Billboard reports that the lawyers representing ticket holders and the trustee charged with Fyre’s assets reached a settlement where each of the victims in the class action lawsuit will receive $7,220, although that figure could be lower depending on Fyre’s bankruptcy case with other creditors.
A vote to approve the class action lawsuit settlement will take place May 13th.
