Executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are turning their attention to a different type of political power play.
The Game of Thrones duo is joining forces with creator Mike Makowsky (Bad Education), director Matt Ross, and executive producer Bernie Caulfield to adapt Candice Millard’s 2011 novel, Destiny of the Republic, into a new series for Netflix.
Here’s everything you need to know about this retelling of a remarkable chapter in American history.
Death by Lightning is a drama series that brings to life the epic and stranger-than-fiction true story of James Garfield, reluctant 20th president of the United States, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau — the man who would come to kill him.

One of my favorite "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" characters is Anya Jenkins (Emma Caulfield), the Vengeance Demon turned human. She's introduced as the villain of the season 3 episode "The Wish," in which Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) wishes for a world where Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) never came to Sunnydale. When Anya makes Cordelia's wish come true, vampires end up ruling the town in the Slayer's absence.
Restoring the proper timeline robbed Anya of her powers; she's stuck as just another teenager attending Sunnydale High (and flunking math). Initially resentful of her new life, she eventually falls for Xander (Nicholas Brendon), and by season 4, she's part of the Scooby gang, sharing duties with her boyfriend as the show's comic relief.
Anya is hilarious; much of the humor in "Buffy" is sardonic, but she's oblivious. Having spent centuries as a vengeance demon, modern socialization skills escape her. Anya can be just as cutting or rude as the others,...

It's safe to say the early aughts WB series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a smash hit — among other accolades, it produced a five-season spin-off, "Angel," and launched several storied careers, including that of its controversial creator, Joss Whedon. A few of the "Buffy" characters returned in "Angel" after departing from "Buffy," including the British Watcher Wesley and Sunnydale High's resident mean girl Cordelia. Even Spike, who was killed off in the "Buffy" series finale, returned for the final season of the spin-off. However, not all of the cast members were so keen on reprising their roles after the original series ended.
Emma Caulfield stars in "Buffy" as the minor character Anya, a wish-granting vengeance demon who is turned back into a human and forced to attend high school where she falls in love with Buffy's hapless human sidekick, Xander. She became a recurring character in season 3 before falling into...

Mena Suvari, Alison Thornton and Aaron Ashmore have jumped on board What Comes Next, Alex Caulfield’s debut feature shooting in Vancouver.
The indie from Black Moon Media and Screen Siren Pictures also stars Maya Chariandy, Stephen Lobo, Sasha Warner, Christina Jastrzembska, Daxton Gujral, Kalyn Miles and River Codack. SAG-AFTRA members on the film got producer agreements to appear as What Comes Next is a Canadian indie pic.
The coming-of-age drama portrays 17-year-old Tanya, played by Thornton, as she begins a bad relationship with an older family friend, Grant (Ashmore). Without Tanya knowing, a decade earlier, Grant had an affair with her mother, Laura, played by Suvari. That forces Tanya and her mother to navigate the fallout over an uncomfortable summer.

Gilmore Girls gave Kirk Gleason (Sean Gunn) a lot of memorable moments. He’s had many jobs, made his own student film, and performed Fiddler on the Roof as Tevye. One of Kirk’s acts was The Journey of Man in front of Stars Hollow. Gunn remembers getting little guidance on The Journey of Man.
Sean Gunn | Caulfield/WireImage for The WB Television Network via Getty Images
Gunn was a guest on Scott Patterson’s I Am All In podcast on Sept. 14. Discussing their most challenging dramatic moments, Gunn did cite Fiddler, and then remembered his other big performance.
The ‘Gilmore Girls’ script did not include details about Kirk’s Journey of Man
This discussion came after many conversations about how exacting the script on Gilmore Girls was. Patterson reflected on just how much memorizing it involved too. So it was unusual for Gunn to get a script that left so much to interpretation.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about those claims suggesting creator Joss Whedon made the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” set a “toxic” environment.
Star of the show Charisma Carpenter was among the first to make allegations about Whedon’s alleged behaviour back in early 2021.
Gellar previously insisted “While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon,” adding that she wouldn’t be making any further statements about it at that time.

She then said the “Buffy” set was known for being an “extremely toxic male set” as she sat down for a roundtable at The Wrap‘s Power of Women Summit in L.A. last month. She didn’t name Whedon.

Sarah Michelle Gellar will be staying mum about some of her experiences on set of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
While the iconic series, which aired from 1997 to 2003, has since been cast under a new light following toxic workplace allegations against showrunner Joss Whedon, lead star Gellar has stood by the legacy of the show itself instead of its creator.
“I’ve come to a good place with it, where it’s easier to talk about,” Gellar told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ll never tell my full story because I don’t get anything out of it. I’ve said all I’m going to say because nobody wins. Everybody loses.”
The “Do Revenge” star continued, “I’m not the only person facing this, and I hope the legacy hasn’t changed. I hope that it gives the success back to the people that put in all of the work. I...

Caulfield went public with the diagnosis in an interview with Vanity Fair.
“Once upon a time, I had zero health problems,” Caulfield told the outlet.
“Back in 2010, I was working on [executive producer] Marti Noxon’s Gigantic, and prior to starting that job, I woke up one morning and the left side of my face felt like there were a million ants crawling on it.”
“I went to my acupuncturist, and he was like, ‘I don’t know, man. Maybe you have Bell’s palsy?'”
Caulfield went through an Mri after visiting a neurologist and received news of her diagnosis when she returned to work.
“I had five minutes down or whatever. And he was like: ‘You have Ms.’ Just like that,” the star recalled.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos, the WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn, has added a familiar face to its lineup.
Emma Caulfield will reprise her role as Dottie, the neighbor to Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda that some audiences theorized would be the big bad of WandaVision. The series eventually revealed that neighbor Agnes (Hahn) was pulling the strings when she was unveiled as the powerful witch Agatha Harkness.
Caulfield shared the news of her casting in an interview with Vanity Fair published Tuesday, in which revealed she has been battling multiple sclerosis in private for more than a decade. In the interview, she noted she feared Ms could affect her livelihood but has decided to go public in part for her young daughter and to raise awareness.
“If I have a platform at all, I should be using it. Even if it affects my ability to get work.

When I was in high school there was an unspoken rule that said you were either a superfan of The Cure or The Smiths, but not both. Looking back now, this is an invented rivalry, as both groups cover much of the same artistic ground and appeal to like-minded fans. I’ve been thinking about this theory a lot lately, because it really showcases the sort of things that feel of world-shattering importance when you are a teenager. And while I squandered much of my misspent youth dancing in my bedroom to both “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” and “The Lovecats,” there was another, perhaps more consequential, pop culture face-off that caused division through the hallways of early-1990s schools everywhere: Grease or Grease 2?

“Firefly” alum Nathan Fillion hopes to collaborate with Joss Whedon again soon.
The “Castle” star detailed his long-running partnership with Whedon, from episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to “Much Ado About Nothing,” calling Whedon a “funny, self-deprecating, incredibly talented” showrunner who is “maybe a little haunted.”

Lush production values often rule the crafts Emmy categories, where HBO is expected to dominate again this year. However, what’s remarkable about HBO production values isn’t that they are consistently high; it’s that they don’t come wrapped in a house style. “Euphoria” features bold indie low-budget filmmaking; for “Succession,” it’s the globe-trotting excesses of the Roy family. “Insecure” is stylized while also being the rare program that speaks to a specific part of the real Los Angeles, while “Westworld” creates a realistic sci-fi rendering of AI. After each of its breakout hits, other networks would try to find their own “Sopranos” or “Game of Thrones; meanwhile, HBO continued to pursue series that would create their own look and feel. “I used to call it the last of the boutique studios,” said “Game of Thrones” producer Bernadette “Casey Bloys and “Game of Thrones” producer Bernie Caulfield...
