Ryan Kavanaugh has a new podcast about failure. By his own admission, he’s got “plenty of failure stories to tell.” The once high-flying thirtysomething mogul quickly turned into a Hollywood pariah when his Relativity Media sputtered into bankruptcy in 2015. Though he co-financed more than 200 films including “The Social Network,” “Mama Mia!” and “The Fighter,” he is best remembered for his foibles. Now 49, he’s quietly staging a comeback, producing influencer-led films like the upcoming Bryce Hall-50 Cent satire “Skill House.” And he boasts a majority stake in the video platform Triller, a TikTok rival that was poised to go public in 2021, never did, but may still.
With the podcast “Failure,” which bows today from Manifest Media, Kavanaugh sits down with a range of guests — from Hollywood rabbis to influencers with mega-followings to, yup, Nigel Lythgoe — to explore the dynamic of why public failures can lead to redemptive triumphs over 24 episodes.

I am sitting in a ballet studio in a drab, labyrinthine office building in Los Angeles with Lil Tay, talking about what it feels like to die — or, at least, have everyone think you did.
That’s what happened to her on Aug. 9, 2023, when a short chunk of Times New Roman text appeared on the former child influencer’s Instagram account, informing her more than 5 million followers of the “devastating news” of her and her brother Jason’s “sudden and tragic passing.” “We kindly ask for privacy as we grieve this overwhelming loss,...

The 14-year-old rapper and influencer dropped a new song and video over the weekend.
Not only is Lil Tay not dead, she’s actually been quite busy making new music.
The 14-year-old rapper and influencer — who made headlines in August 2023 when she was embroiled in a death hoax — dropped a music video on Saturday for her new song, “Sucker 4 Green.”
In the video, Lil Tay — who recently revealed that her legal name is Tay Tian — seemingly pays tribute to her viral TikTok videos, in which she gained fame by flaunting her supposed wealth before becoming a teenager.
Tay dances around a palatial modernist estate, in front of a line of suit-clad backup dancers, as well as in and around numerous high-end cars.
As for the song itself, the lyrics seem to emphasize the title, with the chorus, “Money, money, money/ Money, money, money/ I just can’t look away from it/ I want it,...

The 14-year-old internet star returned to her Instagram page and went live on Saturday afternoon (September 30) to speak out against her father and the media while also dropping the music video for her new single “Sucker 4 Green.”
Tay slammed the media for running with the death story without verifying it was real.
“This proves how much the press did not give a f–k about facts,” she said. “They cared about slandering my name. They did not do any fact-checking.”

In the ongoing saga of the fake death message posted Monday to Josh Seiter’s Instagram, the former “Bachelorette” contestant said on Wednesday that getting back into his social media account was his “top priority,” ahead of letting people know that he hadn’t really died.
In a video interview shared on TMZ, Seiter said, “I’m just a lowly mental health advocate. So I don’t have an official PR team or a team of experts that know how to handle this kind of a thing. And I’m not technologically savvy.”
He explained, “My priority was getting back into my Instagram account… that was my number one priority, and then dealing with the stress of it all it was just overwhelming.”
Seiter’s ex, Monica Beverly Hillz, told EW on Tuesday that she was glad he was still alive, but that she believed the death hoax was a “stunt” he had perpetrated himself.

Josh Seiter, the former “Bachelorette” contestant whose death was falsely reported after his Instagram account was allegedly hacked Monday, assured fans Tuesday that he is alive — and the victim of a “cruel joke.”
“As you can see, I am alive and well,” he said in an Instagram video on Tuesday, explaining that his account had been hacked when the false statement of his death, purportedly from his family, was posted.

Kohn’s Corner is a weekly column about the challenges and opportunities of sustaining American film culture.
As actors continued to strike this week, the biggest stories about performers were unrelated to the unions. First came 21-year-old YouTube and Twitch streamer Kai Cenat being charged with inciting a riot after his impromptu Union Square giveaway led thousands to storm the park. Then came the shocking announcement that 10-year-old internet rapper Lil Tay had died under mysterious circumstances, followed by the revelation a few hours later that Lil Tay was actually alive and well but the victim of a hack.
Welcome to the wild, wild west of the online creator economy that drives so much of popular culture. While SAG-AFTRA and the WGA want streaming-dominated Hollywood to provide a better support system, the internet has no infrastructure to strike against. As bizarre as the fake death hoax around Lil Tay may be, eagle-eyed TV viewers may be scratching their heads over it due to an entirely different reason than the rest of the internet. The ongoing story around the 14-year-old influencer is eerily similar to a Season 3 episode of the Fxx comedy series “Dave” that premiered earlier this year.
A commentary on the trappings of fame in the social media age, the comedy from Dave Burd and Jeff Schaffer follows a fictionalized version of Burd as he tries to prove he’s one of the greatest rappers of all time. That quest leads to Season 3’s ominously titled “#RIPLilDicky,” which was directed by Ben Sinclair and written by Starlee Kine.
While Dave and his manager Mike (Andrew Santino) are trying to cancel Lil Dicky’s ongoing tour, the tour bus explodes. With no service and nowhere to go in the desert,...
