Lucknow, May 1 (Ians) Stellar efforts from fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq and the leg-spin duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra helped Lucknow Super Giants restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore to a modest 126/9 in 20 overs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday.
On a challenging black soil pitch, Bangalore began their innings well by not losing wickets in the Power-play. But as the innings progressed, they kept losing wickets as Naveen picked 3-30 while Bishnoi and Mishra had identical figures of 2-21 to tie down Bangalore.

On the first ball of the innings, Krunal Pandya got a turn and bounce, showing signs of what would come in the game.

Delhi, who are yet to win a game this season, made one change as Mitchell Marsh came in place of Rovman Powell.
“We are going to bowl first. The ground looks incredible, credit to the staff here. It’s about getting one win, the momentum follows from there. We don’t want to lose wickets in the powerplay. We have a change. Marsh comes in for Powell,” said Warner at the toss.

Bengaluru, April 11 (Ians) Lucknow Super Giants were 37/3 at the end of power-play, with Royal Challengers Bangalore firmly on top of them in a run chase of 213 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium but Marcus Stoinis brought his side back with his impressive 30-ball 65 while Nicholas Pooran smashed a sensational 19-ball 62, including hitting fastest fifty of the season in 15 balls, to take the team to a last-ball thrilling one-wicket victory in a dramatic match, here on Monday.

Bengaluru, April 10 (Ians) Royal Challengers Bangalore’ top three batters Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell slammed contrasting fifties to power their side to a mammoth 212/2 against Lucknow Super Giants in an Ipl 2023 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, here on Monday.
Kohli was at his aggressive best in attacking pacers in power-play while making 61 off 44 balls. On the other hand, Du Plessis was at 33 off 31 balls and looked scratchy but he found his timing to be unbeaten on 79 from 46 deliveries while Maxwell smacked 59 off just 29 balls as the crowd was treated to some scintillating strokeplay.
Kohli got his first boundary with a not-so-convincing shot — getting a fat top-edge on a pull off Avesh Khan in the second over. When Avesh gave width on the very next ball, Kohli drove him authoritatively through extra cover for four.

It will be the first time since 2019 that all ten teams will be playing at their respective home venues. Ipl 2023 also sees the return to its usual home-and-away format after a hiatus of three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Though the pandemic hasn’t completely gone away, there are no bio-bubbles as teams regroup and renew their focus of battling out for the most coveted T20 trophy in the cricketing world.
The return of home-and-away format means fans in various venues can have the opportunity of seeing their favourite Indian and overseas players in action in their home cities.
With no air travel last year for teams, it meant that players weren’t having much of travel load. But with the Ipl this year going back to home-and-away format, it presents a challenge for players and support staff to keep themselves fresh in terms of workload so that there isn’t drop in intensity,...

Bengaluru, March 25 (Ians) Ahead of the 2023 Ipl starting from March 31, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has admitted that the leg injury he suffered last year would take at least a couple of more months so that he can be 100 per cent fit.
Maxwell had broken his left fibula at a friend’s birthday party immediately after the conclusion of Australia’s campaign in the Men’s T20 World Cup at home in November last year. He had to undergo surgery and rehabilitation to make a competitive comeback to cricket through the Odi series against India, where he played the opening game in Mumbai.
As a result of that freak injury, Maxwell missed Australia’s Odi series against England and the entire season of the Big Bash League (Bbl) that followed for Melbourne Stars. He was in danger of missing the Ipl but has now recovered enough to turn out for Rcb...

London, March 24 (Ians) English white-ball specialist Tom Abell and Australian short-format expert Tim David emerged as the top picks in the draft for the 2023 edition of The Hundred, England’s domestic limited-balls cricket league.
In the draft held on Thursday night, over 30 male players were picked across eight teams with Welsh Fire roping in Abell while David returned to Southern Brave via their Right-To-Match (Rtm) card.
With new coach Michael Hussey taking charge of affairs after a winless 2022 season, Welsh Fire strengthened their squad significantly by securing the services of Pakistan’s pace duo Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, as well as England all-rounder David Willey.
Domestic players were much in demand as top overseas stars like Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, West Indies’ Ipl legend Kieron Pollard and New Zealand’s Trent Boult went unsold, in some cases due to concerns over their availability for the full season.

Chennai, March 21 (Ians) The three-match Odi series against Australia following the four Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy were expected to give a glimpse into India’s preparations for this year’s Odi World Cup at home.
The selectors were planning to Test some players before they finalise the squad for the World Cup. But going into the third match, the selectors may not be much wiser than at the start as the matches have exposed some chinks in the armour.
Both teams have won one match each thus matching the Chennai Odi, the series decider and the last chance for the Aussies to test the fitness of David Warner and Glenn Maxwell before the September ODIs in India and the World Cup.

London, Jan 1 (Ians) Social media channels were abuzz on Sunday over a catch by Australia’s Michael Neser during a Big Bash League (BBL12) match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers at Brisbane with many people questioning its legality.
Neser caught Jordan Silk off the run by the boundary rope, released the ball upon jumping over the rope, threw it back into the field of play mid-air and collected the loose ball after crossing into the field.
Neser’s mid-air juggling act outside the boundary rope is being questioned as the ball was outside the field of play. The video umpire had to watch many replays before confirming that the Australian seamer had not touched the ground outside the rope while in contact with the ball. New Delhi, Nov 28 (Ians) Veteran Australia batter David Warner has warned fast-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green about the hectic schedule he will face in 2023, which also includes participating in the Indian Premier League (Ipl).
Green’s intention to take part in Ipl 2023 could see ten franchises in a bidding war at the mini-auction next month in Kochi. This comes after Green smashed two fantastic half-centuries in Australia’s T20I tour of India in September, at a whopping strike rate of 214.54.
Before the Ipl 2023 season comes into the picture, Green will be playing in Australia’s home Tests against West Indies and South Africa. He could also feature for his Bbl side Perth Scorchers, before flying to India with the Australia squad for four Tests next year, followed by three ODIs.

Brisbane, Oct 17 (Ians) Mohammed Shami made a surprise entry and picked up three wickets in the final over as India beat defending champions Australia by six runs in their first warm-up match of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at The Gabba on Monday.

Melbourne, Oct 17 (Ians) Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Ian Healy is wary of T20 skipper Aaron Finch and allrounder Glenn Maxwell’s form going into the Icc T20 World Cup, with the legend saying they are the “two biggest worries for me”.
As Australia begin their defence of the Icc T20 World Cup title with the opening Super 12 game against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scgg) on October 22, Healy has expressed concern about the reigning world champions losing four of their last seven T20Is, with one being a washout. After losing the away T20I series to India, Australia also lost the home T20I series to England 2-0 with the third and final match being abandoned due to rain.
Healy felt a string of losses is not ideal for the confidence of the side and raised questions about the make-up of the XI.

Melbourne, Oct 16 (Ians) England allrounder Chris Waokes is happy he is finally in Jos Buttler’s squad for the Icc T20 World Cup and able to contribute after months of missing the action due to injuries, saying as one gets older “you don’t want to miss any cricket”.
Woakes grabbed three wickets in the third and final T20I against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on October 14, dismissing skipper Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh but his efforts went in vain as the match was abandoned due to rain.
The 33-year-old would have put himself in prime position to be selected in the Playing XI in the upcoming T20 World Cup, and Woakes says he doesn’t want to miss any more opportunities of playing for the country.

The eighth edition of T20 World Cup is going to be an exciting affair with 16 teams playing 45 matches in seven Australian cities between October 16 and November 13. Hosts Australia are the defending champions and they will be keen to retain their title on home soil. However, the likes of England and India will be their biggest challenges.
No doubt, there are Sri Lanka, Pakistan who have also played impressive cricket in the build up to the World Cup, but it will be interesting to see if they can maintain the momentum in high-pressure events like the World Cup.
Australia, England and India also had their fair share of hiccups before the World Cup, but these professional teams know what it takes to deliver at the big stage. As the mega event is all set to begin, Ians takes a look at the aspects which make them top contenders to lift the...

Guwahati, Oct 3 (Ians) Charismatic India batter Suryakumar Yadav might have missed out on the ‘Man of the Match’ award but his 61-run effort off just 22 balls against South Africa earned him several records in the series-clinching second T20 International at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here on Sunday night.
Suryakumar completed an 18-ball half-century, the joint-second-fastest for India in the format to push India in the middle and end overs. Yuvraj Singh still holds the record for his 12-ball fifty in the inaugural Icc T20 World Cup in 2007. Surya equalled Kl Rahul’s feat to get to a brilliant fifty.
India set up a mammoth 237/3 in 20 overs in the second T20I of the three-match series and then restricted the Proteas to 221/3 to emerge victorious by 16 runs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Sydney, Sep 29 (Ians) In the absence of swashbuckling David Warner, all-rounder Cameron Green smoothly delivered in his new role as an opener in the T20Is against India, hitting two stunning half-centuries in Mohali and Hyderabad at a whopping strike-rate of 214.54.
Green’s eye-catching knocks saw him land a spot in Australia’s upcoming two-match T20I series against West Indies on the Gold Coast and Brisbane on October 5 and 7 respectively. But with Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc returning, Green may not be in the playing eleven.
Marsh, the all-rounder who was critical in Australia winning Men’s T20 World Cup at the UAE last year, believes that though the cricket fans and critics were taken by surprise on seeing Green’s onslaught with the bat, none of the members in the side were left astonished.
“People from the outside might be surprised but no one’s...

Melbourne, Sep 28 (Ians) Australian great Mark Waugh has included India’s pace-bowling mainstay Jaspit Bumrah in his list of five cricketers who he thinks are the best T20I players in the world.
Waugh is confident the 28-year-old Bumrah, ranked 45th in the Icc T20I bowling ranking, will fire during the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia next month.
“I think he’s a fantastic bowler in all formats, actually,” Waugh said of the Bumrah, who has had to miss a couple of white-ball series of late to tend to his old back injury.
“His ability to get wickets in T20 cricket is key. He can bowl at the death and he can bowl up front,” added Waugh.
The former all-rounder, known for his top-order blitzkrieg and athletic fielding in the slip cordon, also picked Pakistan quick Shaheen Afridi in his top-5

Melbourne, Sep 28 (Ians) A full-strength Australia will take on the West Indies in the two-match T20I series beginning at the Carrara Oval on October 5, with the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and veteran pacer Mitchell Starc returning to the fold for the fixture just weeks ahead of the start of the Icc T20 World Cup at home.
The quartet had missed the three-match T20I series against India due to various reasons and their return to the side will add the much-needed firepower ahead of the global showpiece event, of which Australia are the defending reigning champions.
Besides the return of the four stalwarts, young Cameron Green will get another opportunity to prove his T20I credentials as he has also been included in the 16-member squad.

Hyderabad, Sep 26 (Ians) The Rohit Sharma-led India not only defeated Australia in the T20I series at home 2-1 following their thrilling six-wicket victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Sunday night, the hosts also achieved a unique record of clinching their 21st T20I win in a calendar year — the most ever recorded by a team in men’s T20Is.
Pakistan had held the record until now with 20 T20I wins in 2021.
Virat Kohli (63) and Suryakumar Yadav (69) were the architects of the win in the series-decider as they stitched together a century partnership. Thanks to their efforts, India overhauled Australia’s 187/7 in 20 overs with just a ball to spare.
This was also India’s 13th successful run chase in the format in 14 attempts since 2021, according to Icc.
India drew level with the Thailand women’s team, which recorded 21 victories and four losses in 2019.

Melbourne, Sep 26 (Ians) Australian cricket legends Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh have opined that power-hitter Tim David should be in the side for the upcoming Icc T20 World Cup at home and believe the team management should take a call on whether to include either of Steve Smith or Marcus Stoinis in the XI for the showpiece event beginning on October 16.
Though David managed just 18 and two for Australia in the first two matches of the T20I series against India, the 26-year-old was in blazing form in the third match, smashing a half-century in the final game in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The cricketer, whose maiden T20I call-up for Australia — David has played 14 T20Is for Singapore as well — has come on the back of a productive domestic T20 league season and playing franchise cricket around the world, including the Indian Premier League. He has impressed both Gilchrist and...

Australia got off to a blazing start and ended in whirlwind fashion but the Indians did well in the middle overs to peg them back.
Green (52 off 21 balls) gave the innings the early momentum as he blasted the third fastest fifty for Australia in T20 cricket, racing to his half-century off 19 deliveries while David, the big-hitter who started his career with Singapore before moving to Australia, gave the innings the much-needed push towards the end as Australia recovered from 117/6 in 14th over to post a respectable total.
Tim David and Daniel Sams raised 68 runs for the seventh wicket off 34 balls as Australia went for the leather in the final four overs, hitting 21 runs off the 18th over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and 18 off the 19th bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. But Harshal Patel bowled a superb final over, conceding only 7 runs and sent back the dangerous David as Australia ended with 187/7 in their 20 overs.
