It’s been over a year since the release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ marking the conclusion of the team’s journey as we knew it. It also served as James Gunn’s final directorial venture for the MCU before he transitioned full-time into directing for the newly established Dcu.
Chris Pratt’s character, Star-Lord, received a fitting conclusion; despite losing the girl, he gained something far more significant: the chance to rediscover what he lost when he was abducted by Yondu. The film’s closing scenes depict Peter enjoying a meal with his maternal grandfather, leaving viewers with the hopeful message, “Star-Lord will return.”
Certainly, Peter Quill remains a significant figure in the MCU, being one of its most beloved characters. Thus, it seemed inevitable that he would make appearances in future projects. However, a seed of doubt was planted, given Rocket Raccoon’s assumption of leadership...

It’s been more than a year since ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.’ was released. It marked the end of the team as we knew it, and it was also the last movie that Gunn would direct for the MCU before he transitioned full-time into helming the newly established Dcu.
Chris Pratt’s character, Star-Lord got the ending he deserved, he lost the girl but gained something much better, the opportunity to figure out what he lost when he was abducted by Yondu. In the last scenes of the movie, Peter is enjoying a meal with his maternal grandfather, the final message being “Star-Lord will return.”
Obviously, Peter Quill is a massive part of the MCU and one of the most popular characters, so it was only logical that he would return to subsequent projects, but then again the seed of doubt has been sown considering that Rocket...

Joel Edgerton is glad he’s not part of the MCU, especially when it came to his possible casting for Star Lord in “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
Appearing on The Playlist’s “Bingeworthy” podcast, Edgerton revealed that he “didn’t quite sort of understand the tone” of the comedy-action film that spurred a trilogy, despite auditioning for the lead role. Chris Pratt was later cast.
“Star-Lord’s a good one, actually, because I, unlike Chris [Pratt], didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did,” Edgerton said. “And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone. And I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord, even if I had the opportunity or I did a good enough audition because it is the way it’s meant to be.

Joel Edgerton revealed on The Playlist’s “Bingeworthy” podcast that he failed his audition for Star Lord in “Guardians of the Galaxy” because he just couldn’t nail down the tone writer-director James Gunn was looking for. Chris Pratt ended up getting the career-defining role, which he’d reprise in two “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequels and various other Marvel movies, including “Avengers: Infinity War.”

When commenting on the MCU characters, we almost always reference the big hitters like the Avengers or the most notable villains. But the truth of the matter is the MCU wouldn’t be what it is today if not for the contribution of secondary characters whose actions impacted the storylines more than realized.
This is why fans took to Ranker to decide on the 10 most underrated characters in the MCU. Some, due to unfortunate circumstances will never get their 5 minutes of fame again, and for some, there is still hope. Let’s see who’s on the list.
10. Talos
Talos was introduced in ‘Captain Marvel’ as a benevolent leader of the displaced Skrulls, and fans expected him to have a massive role in the MCU going forward, and he did sort of. 2023 was a rough year for Disney, with almost all of their films and shows losing at the box office or on streaming. The only real highlight was the third entry in the popular Guardians of the Galaxy series at Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made $845.6 Million worldwide against a budget of $250 Million. The film marked the last time director James Gunn helmed a Marvel project, and the last time the original cast would all be together on screen.
Since then, not only has James Gunn departed for Warner Bros. to head up their DC Universe of films, both Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) and Zoe Saldaña (Gamora) have expressed their desire to leave the series, leaving behind only Star Lord, Rocket and Groot from the original team.
However, not all feelings are negative, as Saldaña has expressed that she wants the series to continue. In a recent interview...

How many of us still enjoy the good times we had on weekend mornings when we poured a bowl of cereal and turned on Fox Kids to see what Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, and the gang were up to? Well, fans are left feeling nostalgic as the first two episodes of Kevin Feige’s latest X-Men ‘97 brought back iconic characters like Jean Grey and Cyclops. Disney Plus finally started airing the much-awaited animated series a few hours ago.
What has surprised fans the most, though, is that maybe Kevin Feige—the man behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe—has actually persuaded them that Cyclops will be the next big thing in the franchise. Despite being the founding member of the X-Men, the character was given little screen time in earlier X-Men adaptations.

Fans love the Marvel Cinematic Universe for many reasons, including the franchise's eclectic characters, its engagement with decades of comic book lore, and its willingness to flood the market with crossovers and surprise easter eggs. If Marvel films are nothing else, they are visual spectacles, a reason to go to the movie theater and see fantastical stories play out on the biggest screens possible. The franchise's visual effects are a big draw, allowing various Marvel filmmakers to create worlds and characters that wouldn't always be possible to shoot in the real world.
In fact, Marvel's intense process for developing visual effects has occasionally drawn criticism, both from VFX artists and the filmmakers at the helm of these movies. Director James Gunn, who made the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, told Gizmodo that Marvel's VFX demands were occasionally difficult to work with, because not everything gets correctly worked out in pre-planning stages.

The second season of What If? has been dropped by Marvel Studios in a year that has seen both the rise and fall of the MCU. The final Guardians of the Galaxy and the second season of Loki were absolute triumphs, while the rest was pretty much a let down. I’m not even going to go into the Jonathan Major fiasco, but that must have hurt the MCU, and the future of this thing doesn’t look too bright. Considering all these, it was essential for Marvel to wrap up this year strong, and the good news is that What If? has been quite successful in doing that. With the anthology format, it was a given that some of the episodes would not be that good, while others might just be extraordinary. And that’s exactly how it went. We’re going to rank the new batch of episodes...

‘If a character is in film, they have to have a reason to be there,’ says the head of DC Studios. But is he creating a rod for his own back?
Strange things are happening in the brave new world of DC … or at least in the social media echo chamber that surrounds James Gunn’s all-new, all-different DC Universe. This is the guy who, when working for rival Marvel, successfully managed to deliver some of the most impressively extended ensemble superhero storylines yet seen on the big screen, in the bombastic form of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

The MCU’s upcoming slate continues to face a whole lot of shifting, but for now at least, there’s still a lot more Marvel TV on the way.
At the start of 2022, there were 12 new Marvel Studios series slated to premiere on the streaming platform in the coming months/years, along with two returning series. Then, the studio announced a few more at San Diego Comic-Con. Now, as 2023 speeds to a close, many of those have come and gone. But like we said, there are still more yet.
Of course, it’s hard for anyone to keep track of all these series in their head. So, we went ahead and compiled a list for you of every confirmed Marvel TV show currently in the works to premiere on Disney+.

With the insane games that the various streaming platforms are pulling in terms of removing content from their services (sometimes projects that were made specifically for those platforms), an added emphasis has been placed on home video. And with good reason. The only way you can insure that the movies you love will be around is by owning them on Blu-ray. Thankfully the home video labels have been stepping up their game, with deluxe packages overflowing with extras and feature films presented in their best possible format.

Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” is one of the most famous classic rock one-hit wonders of the 1970s. Notably, Blue Swede was not the first act to record the song. In addition, the writer of the song was behind major hits by Elvis Presley.

It’s been a long and emotional road over the past decade for fans of the galaxy’s misfit heroes, but it sure seems like this journey has finally come to an end. Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 hit theaters this past week and gave audiences another two-hour action-packed adventure ride that is being praised as arguably the best MCU movie since Endgame. The Guardians movies have always been beloved by MCU fans and critics alike and the third is no different, with director James Gunn deserving a standing ovation for his MCU encore.
However, despite the movie being Gunn’s last turn behind the camera for the MCU, and the added confirmation from the director that Volume 3 would be the Guardians last outing, the film itself left several loose-ends and countless possibilities for where the fan-favorite characters could return in the future. Twenty years ago, the idea of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie was absurd. The team was a ragtag bunch of weirdos, disconnected from the main Marvel Universe as it was set almost a thousand years in the future, with odd powers, strange enemies, and a vaguely sci-fi adventure milieu. But something flipped in 2006, kicking off a chain of events that concludes with the final chapter in arguably the most beloved individual franchise in the MCU: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Chicago – The Guardians of the Galaxy have lost some of their freshness over the years. They’re no long the scrappy obscurities who came out of nowhere to deliver one of the more idiosyncratic and enjoyable adventures in the Marvel Cinema Universe. But while familiarity has taken some of the elements of surprise, they’re still an agreeable bunch to watch.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” writer-director James Gunn revealed in a recent interview with ComicBook.com that Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora was nearly killed off in 2017’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” a year before the character met her demise in “Avengers: Infinity War.” According to Gunn, it was Marvel executives that talked him out of the decision.
“Gamora almost died in ‘Vol. 2,'” Gunn said. “I knew from the beginning Zoe only wanted to play the character for so many years, and she’s been very honest saying that she’s done [after this]. And so I was going to have her die. I thought she was the one that was going to sacrifice herself… I was kind of talked out of it by Kevin [Feige] and Louis [D’Esposito] and then it just didn’t work that well. It didn’t feel right. It felt much more right to go where we go in that movie.

Now that James Gunn is leading the DC franchise, what are the odds that audiences might see Superman sharing the screen with Spider-Man?
While a DC/Marvel crossover could happen in the future, don’t expect it any time soon, Gunn told Deadline during the Los Angeles premiere for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“I think that it would look like something that will be happening in about 10 years. Not today, because we have a whole bunch of other DC movies we need to tell,” the director said.
Guardians Vol. 3 brings the trilogy to a close and, with it, Gunn’s time within the MCU. At least for now, as he steps away to dive into his duties at DC. The final romp with the Star Lord and his crew focuses on the origins of Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon.

I had a rough run with Marvel,” Pratt told Jimmy Kimmel during his appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday. “I auditioned for ‘Thor’, but not even to be Thor — but to be one of the sidekick guys, and I didn’t get a callback. Usually they give you a little bit of feedback, and I remember the casting director goes, ‘Wow. You really made a big choice there.’ Which is code for being like: ‘Hey, dial back the acting there, guy.’”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” held preview screenings and had its Hollywood premiere on Thursday, and that means the reactions are pouring in.
And it’s a given that so far, those who saw it tonight mostly loved it. Attendees in screenings on the east coast or in the central time zones got out first — as we write this, the Hollywood premiere screening is currently about halfway through — so we’ll start with them.
Film critic Bob Chipman calls it “easily the best of the trilogy and a top 5 Marvel Movie,” and he also posits that director James Gunn’s new bosses at Warner. Bros. have to be happy with that decision after seeing this.
Writer Mike Ryan said Gunn “bet the house” on the film, “and won,” and praised how it exists as a sci-fi action film as opposed to another Super Hero joint.
But there was some rumblings of dissent.

James Gunn admits it's a "big relief" to complete the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' trilogy. The 56-year-old director has helmed every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series since the first instalment came out in 2014 and is now unveiling the final film in his series, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'.Gunn says the story and characters - which include Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer and Rocket, among others - have consumed much of his time and thoughts for the past 11 years and he is pleased to be able to close this chapter on his career with a blockbuster adventure he is extremely proud of.Speaking at a press conference at Le Bristol hotel in Paris, he said: "Over the past 11 years of my life, I think I have probably spent 60 percent of my time thinking about the 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. So this has taken up my entire life.

The last day of filming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” brought an end to a nearly 10-year franchise for writer-director James Gunn and his cast and crew, including Chris Pratt. The actor headlined the trilogy as Peter Quill/Star Lord, and he decided to mark the last day of filming on “Vol. 3” by going back to the very beginning with a speech that called out all of the original “Guardians” haters.
“I’m not a vindictive person…but I happened to have in my notes file several press clippings saved from the first movie when everyone predicted that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was going to be Marvel’s first flop,” Pratt recently told Fandango about the speech he gave on the last day of the “Guardians Vol. 3” set. “That was the consensus critically. Dave Bautista is setting the bar high for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” promising that it will be the “best” film of the franchise.
“It’s very emotional. It’s emotional, it’s dark, and it’s deep and it’s inspiring. I think this is going to be a special [one],” he said in a recent interview for Uproxx.
The “Knock at the Cabin” star admitted that he has yet to see the film, which wrapped shooting in May 2022 and hits theaters May 5, 2023.

For many superhero fans, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is one of the most anticipated movie events of 2023. Not only will it give audiences a chance to see Star Lord, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon together on the big screen one last time, but the film also marks James Gunn’s final time working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before he turns his attention to running DC Studios.
Gunn became a Marvel legend after turning the once-obscure “Guardians” characters into one of the studio’s most popular film series. Much of the franchise’s success has been credited to Gunn’s unique writing and directing style which relies heavily on his irreverent sense of humor and love of classic rock needle drops.
For many fans a new “Guardians of the Galaxy” soundtrack is just as exciting as the movie itself, given Gunn’s knack for brining fun, forgotten one-hit-wonders back into the foreground.

Talk about an effective trailer. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s first lengthy trailer features so many incredibly fun scenes and heartwrenching snippets that it’s difficult to single out any particular standout moment. From Groot declaring “We are Groot” to Rocket saying “We’ll all fly away together” to the return of Gamora (Zoe Saldana), there’s a little something for every fan in the trailer that debuted at the Comic-Con Experience 2022 in São Paulo, Brazil.
My personal fav is the following exchange between Peter and Drax:
Drax – “And we’ll kill anyone who gets in our way!”
Peter – “No, not kill anyone.”
Drax – “Kill a few people.”
Peter – “Kill no people.”
Drax – “Kill one guy. One stupid guy, who no one loves.
Peter – “Now you’re just making it sad.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy are back.
The first trailer for James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is here, and it’s a doozy. Set to a lushly orchestrated version of English indie band Spacehog’s “In the Meantime,” which indicates that Quill’s Zune has some songs that stretch beyond the 1970s-era classics of the first two movies, the clip is equal parts thrilling and emotional.
Gunn’s patented, rollicking “Guardians of the Galaxy” tone is very much in place – we love their candy-colored spacesuits and a multi-armed Groot firing weapons. But there is an undercurrent of extreme melancholy as well. Gunn has said that this entry is devoted to Rocket’s backstory, and it seems like it could be the end of the road for our favorite wise-cracking raccoon. (Side note: Who is his otter friend!?)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has earned a reputation for major cameos, so when "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" dropped on Disney+ this week, it's no surprise that some eagle-eyed fans thought they spotted someone famous. The special, which follows Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) on their quest to find Star Lord (Chris Pratt) the perfect Christmas present, ended with a surprise musical performance from a special guest. But before the revelry gets started, a cheerfully decorated man who bears a striking resemblance to Mark Hamill can be seen taking a swig from the bottle.
But the actor's son has officially confirmed that Hamill did not make an appearance. Nathan Hamill has now tweeted a picture of the man in question, along with the caption, "That's not @MarkHamill #GuardiansoftheGalaxyHolidaySpecial." Further, a Twitter user named Cynn Smith -- who was himself a background performer in the holiday special...

Warning: Spoilers for "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" ahead.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are back! Well, most of them. A couple of them died (if you can call having your soul trapped inside a rock for the rest of eternity "death") and the rest haven't really been gone for long because they showed up in "Thor: Love and Thunder" but, hey! They're back! And just in time for Christmas! Written and directed by James Gunn, "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" sees the Marvel Cinematic Universe's loveable band of violent criminals unite to find the perfect Christmas present for Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), aka Star Lord.
Why are they so hellbent on Christmas, you ask? Well, the aforementioned deaths, along with the ending of "Avengers: Infinity War," left the Guardian's mostly fearless leader in a state of severe emotional duress. In the gentlest terms possible, the...

Rumors surged in January 2021 that Chris Pratt would become the next Indiana Jones when it came time for Lucasfilm to reboot the adventure franchise following Harrison Ford’s legendary run. For the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World” actor, that’s never going to happen. Pratt shut down the rumor for good during his appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.

"This ends here and now!" Disney has revealed another new 60-second TV trailer for Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder, landing in theaters in just a few weeks in the middle of this summer. This next Marvel sequel is directed by Taika Waititi following his fantastic Thor: Ragnarok from 2017. The God of Thunder is on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg (!!), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. The cast includes Chris Hemsworth back as Thor, Taika Waititi as Korg, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karen Gillan, Russell Crowe as Zeus, Sean Gunn,...
