The Pearsons may be gone, but they’re certainly not forgotten. A whopping 19 “This Is Us” cast members have been submitted by NBC on the 2022 Emmys ballot, including all of the core adult family members. That number includes three lead performers: Sterling K. Brown as Randall Pearson, Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson and Mandy Moore as Rebecca Pearson. In years past, Justin Hartley as Kevin Pearson has also dabbled in lead, but for this final season he’s competing in supporting. One fan-fave guest star was not submitted on the Emmy ballot and thus cannot be nominated: 2017 winner Gerald McRaney, who returned in the penultimate episode as the ghost of lemonade-loving Dr. K.

Nicky finally makes contact with Sally, the object of his decades-long affection, in this week’s This Is Us. And she barely remembers him at first. Through the years, “This Is Us” has welcomed countless big-name guest stars to its ever-growing family, with a whopping six being nominated at the Emmys: Ron Cephas Jones, Gerald McRaney, Brian Tyree Henry, Denis O’Hare, Michael Angarano and Phylicia Rashad. Jones and McRaney are the only two guest stars to take home trophies, but now Angarano is hoping to follow in their Emmy-winning footsteps.
Angarano first joined NBC’s family drama in 2018 as Nick Pearson, the estranged brother of Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia). In flashbacks we see Nick’s early life with Jack and their service in Vietnam, while in the present-day story he’s known as Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) and lives a mostly solitary life in his trailer. In the most recent fifth season, Angarano returned in the “One Small Step” episode in which fans saw Nick fall in love for the first time with his co-worker Sally at the animal clinic.

Griffin Dunne is still getting used to the recognition he receives for his role as Nicky Pearson on “This Is Us.” As a veteran who served in Vietnam, Nicky is a character who resonates with the audience, especially in his struggle to find a sense of family again after years of isolation. “I don’t think I’ve been involved in a permanent way with something that has such broad appeal, which I’ve always wanted, quite honestly,” Dunne says in an exclusive new interview with Gold Derby. “Each of these characters seem to represent something for everyone to identify with. I just have never had an experience where people come up to me so moved about my character’s journey.” Watch the full webchat interview above.

This Is Us is one of few shows affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, and This Is Us Season 4 Episode 18 serves as our final episode of the season.
While there are a lot of balls up in the air on the NBC juggernaut, we now know the season finale, titled "Strangers: Part Two," is bringing back some beloved characters.
The network has dropped some new photos for the episode, and they revealed that fan favorites Dr. Katowski (Gerald McRaney), Malik Hodges (Asante Blackk), and Nicky Pearson (Griffin Dunne) will be back.
The official synopsis for the installment reveals that the Pearsons gather to celebrate Baby Jack's first birthday.
The season finale promo (Below) released last week already confirmed McRaney's return. If you watch This Is Us online, you know Dr. Katowski was a pivotal character on This Is Us Season 1.

Exclusive: Present-day Nicky is becoming a permanent member of the Pearson clan on NBC’s This Is Us. Griffin Dunne, who was introduced as an older version of Jack’s once-presumed-dead younger brother Nicky in one of Season 3’s biggest twists, has been upped to series regular for the series’ fourth season.
The expansion of contemporary Nicky Pearson’s presence on the show was hinted in the final seconds of the Season 3 finale when, in a flash-forward, Dunne was seen sitting at the bedside of elderly Rebecca (Mandy Moore). The theories about the character’s growing importance on the family drama were confirmed by tonight’s Season 4 premiere, which marked Dunne’s first as a series regular after recurring in Season 3. I’m not going to spoil the episode for those who have not seen it but Dunne’s Nicky is seen interacting with multiple This Is Us characters.

Buckle up, This Is Us fans, because season four is about to be a wild ride. Just when we thought we knew everything about the Pearson family, the poster for the show's upcoming season is promising a lot left to be uncovered. The poster, which was exclusively revealed on E! News, reads, "If you think you know what's coming next . . . you don't know us." Ok, so after finding out that Nicky Pearson is actually alive and Rebecca has dementia, we're not sure how much more we can handle emotionally - but we're so ready for all the twists and tears when season four premieres on Sept. 24.

This morning at “Pancakes with the Pearsons”—a brunch at 1 Hotel West Hollywood, in celebration of This Is Us‘s 9 Emmy nominations—series creator Dan Fogelman joined his cast for a series of 10-minute “actor-on-actor” Q&As, providing some new details about what we can expect in Season 4 of the hit NBC drama. “I would say that there’s a lot of secret new cast members who are going to be a big deal, coming up, so that’s one part. I would say there’s going to be a big announcement or release about it at the end of this month,” Fogelman shared. “I would say that in the series, we have what I call little markers, little stakes we put in the ground that serve as grounding points for the whole arc of the whole series, and I would say our first two episodes of this season are two of those.

Michael Angarano is in a unique position on “This Is Us.” Although his character, Nicky Pearson, is one of the adult characters on the show — and one of the ones who is alive in the multiple time periods the series covers — he does not portray the role at every age. Instead, Griffin Dunne portrays the present-day Nicky, in a move that Angarano feels was “really, really right.”
“I think it benefits the show and the part to have an older actor playing the older version of Nicky. You’re playing a man who’s seen a lot, who’s lived a really hard life, and I think it’s really appropriate to have an actor with the appropriate amount of life experience to play the part,” he tells Variety.
After hearing of the role, Angarano got on a call with series co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker, he says, who laid out Nicky...

There's a new addition to the This Is Us cast: Griffin Dunne! And he's a very important part of the Pearson family. After the NBC drama's shocking midseason finale on Nov. 27, fans are well aware that the fate of Nicky Pearson is actually a lot more complicated than previously expected. Earlier in the series, Jack told Rebecca his younger brother had died in Vietnam. But it turns out Nicky is actually alive and living in Pennsylvania.
Michael Angarano plays the younger version of Nicky that fans are familiar with so far, but it appears Dunne will take the reins in the present day as the Big Three reunite with their uncle. You may recognize the 63-year-old actor from his roles in Dallas Buyers Club, War Machine, and After Hours, and you can thank him for directing Practical Magic.

It's time to meet Nicky Pearson on This Is Us. The NBC drama has added Will & Grace and I'm Dying Up Here veteran Michael Angarano to the cast of season three as Nicky, brother to Milo Ventimiglia's Jack Pearson. Both Jack and Nicky were in Vietnam together and season three is poised to focus on Jack's past, specifically his time fighting in the war. The news was announced at This Is Us' Fyc Emmys panel on Monday, Aug. 13. "I am beyond grateful and very excited to be part of this show," Angarano tweeted. "My grandmother even told her dentist."
