Screen Australia’s Indigenous department is contributing $745,000 in production funding to four documentary projects including two for Nitv and one for the ABC.
Co-funded by Stan, Freshwater Pictures’ Alick and Albert looks at the unlikely friendship between art activist Alick Tipoti and Prince Albert of Monaco.
Commissioned by Nitv, Tamarind Tree Pictures and Roar Film’s Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky is billed as a fresh, funny and provocative look at Captain Cook’s arrival from a First Nations’ perspective.
Also for Nitv, Kalori Productions and Jotz Productions’ feature documentary Kindred explores friendship, adoption and belonging through the relationship between filmmakers Gillian Moody and Adrian Russell Wills.

Among them is a new project from That Sugar Film.s Damon Gameau, 2040. The Madman film will see Gameau read a letter to his hypothetical daughter on her 21st birthday in 2040, exploring the moments since her birth that saw humanity introduce solutions to issues such as climate change, technology, gender equality and social justice.
Gameau will write and direct, while Nick Batzias and Anna Kaplan, who both worked on That Sugar Film, will produce. 2040 has also received Good Pitch and Film Victoria funding..
Madman are also handling.Leunig: A Tale in 16 Parts, which will see writer-director Kasimir Burgess (Fell) look into the life of cartoonist Michael Leunig.
Produced by Philippa Campey, the Film Camp project will see the artist, who is recovering from a near-fatal brain seizure, reflect on the experiences that have informed his work.

Ausfilm has announced the 15 Australian producers who will participate in Ausfilm Week London from October 20-23. The event aims to create and develop co-production opportunities between Australian and UK producers for feature film and high-end TV drama.

The Australian/German/Finnish co-production Iron Sky will have its Australian premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival as the festival’s opening film on April 19.
Iron Sky had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival where it was one of the fastest selling screenings at the festival.
The film trailer has reached 6.5 million YouTube views since the Berlin premiere. The film’s producers have had a strong presence on Facebook and used crowd-funding to help generate investment and interest.
New Holland Pictures was the Australian production company behind the film, bringing production of the film to the Gold Coast. New Holland Pictures producer Cathy Overett said: “It’s been a fabulous journey for us, being absorbed into the Iron Sky social media phenomenon. And we were delighted to bring world class production values to the film, shooting all the moonbase and spaceship interiors at the Village Roadshow studios on the Gold Coast.
