Netflix's The Defenders mini-series seemingly closed the book (at least temporarily) on The Hand as an ongoing major adversary for Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Now that Daredevil Season 3 is about to enter production, speculation is rampant regarding potential storylines and villains. Last season introduced both Elektra and Frank Castle (aka The Punisher), and interestingly each played both ally and antagonist at various times. So, what can we expect in the next chapter in Matt Murdock's saga?
Many fans are hopeful that Frank Miller's classic "Born Again" storyline is featured -- this arc focuses on Wilson Fisk's pursuit of Daredevil's secret identity, and also includes Marvel characters Captain America, Iron Man, and Nuke -- a character previously established as NYPD Sergeant Will Simpson in Jessica Jones. While it's extremely unlikely that any of these characters would appear in Daredevil, it's notable that toward the...

Raw, riveting and relentlessly compelling, Marvel’s Jessica Jones: The Complete First Season ignites a firestorm of suspense cloaked in the haze of a noir-inspired slow burn. Haunted by a tragedy that broke her world apart, Jessica Jones settles in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, and opens her own detective agency, called Alias Investigations, with the hope of rebuilding her life and keeping the lights on in her apartment. She discovers that the source of her trauma, a mind-controlling sociopath named Kilgrave, has resurfaced, forcing her to use her gifts as a private eye to track him down before he causes more damage to her life or to anyone else.

Marvel and Netflix's Jessica Jones, starring Krysten Ritter, was a major game-changer for the superhero genre. A female-led series, no costumes, serious adult themes, and a villain for the ages. Not only was the show critically-acclaimed, but it brought in a whole new audience, who were not necessarily inclined toward crime-fighting or super-powers -- my wife, for example, is not a comic book fan, but Jessica Jones became her spirit animal upon discovering this series.
While we never learned the show's actual viewership numbers (because Netflix), the clear popularity and pop-culture impact of the show ensured that it would be picked up for a second season. In fact, filming for Jessica Jones Season 2 started in April. However, big questions about storyline, villain, and new characters remain open -- the real question fans have to be wondering: how can Marvel top the amazing performances, surprises, and dynamics of Season 1?

We already have a lot of info going into Marvel's The Defenders series and a lot of possible baddies. We've got the Hand, and we know that there are different divisions of The Hand from the Iron Fist series as well as Igh, which is the company that gave us such greats as Jessica Jones' strength and Will Simpson's pills. Then there's whoever or whatever Sigourney Weaver's villainous character works for. Well, we can now add another group to the long list because it appears that The Defenders will also be featuring more members of Stick's Elite group, The Chaste.
The Chaste are the special group that Stick leads, and they battle the Hand. But just because they have the same enemy doesn't mean they are friends. We've already seen Daredevil butt heads with his old mentor, and the same could happen again in The Defenders. One...

Jessica Jones flipped the superhero genre on its head last year, and the results were unexpectedly awesome. Starring actress Krysten Ritter, this was our first female-led Marvel or DC movie or TV series in recent memory. Perhaps more important, the show dealt with mature topics like rape, Ptsd, addiction, female empowerment, and interracial and lesbian relationships -- bold, thematic steps for a genre too-long stuck in neutral. Fans and critics adored the show, which went on to win several impressive industry accolades, including a Primetime Emmy, Peabody and Hugo awards.
Jessica Jones exposed a distinctly gritty, noir version of the Marvel universe, told from a woman's perspective. Ritter established herself as a smart, capable, and unrelenting anti-hero, whose physical superpowers were actually her least interesting aspect. The show also introduced longtime fan-favorite Luke Cage, whose own series launched late last year to near universal acclaim. One of the key successes...

A few weeks back, Netflix released the full season of Iron Fist, the fourth pillar before the upcoming Defenders limited series, which will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist team up against a common enemy. While The Defenders has long since been in the can, we still have some time before it hits the streaming service. However, that hasn’t stopped Marvel Entertainment from moving forward with their schedule.
According to On Location Vacations (via McU Exchange), production has officially begun on the second season of Jessica Jones. The outlet also states that film today will take place in New York City on Broadway and West 101st Street. McU Exchange notes that this is the location used for the exterior of Jessica’s Alias Investigations office (a.k.a. her apartment).

Wil Traval played damaged, pill-popping police officer Will Simpson (a variation of Marvel Comics villain, Nuke) in the first season of Marvel and Netflix’s Jessica Jones, but it seems the actor is preparing to jump ship to DC for a much more heroic role. According to TV Line, Traval will play Christopher Chance, Aka Human Target, in season 5 of The CW’s Arrow.
The character is a highly skilled professional bodyguard that puts his life on the line by assuming the identity of those he’s assigned to protect – hence the codename. Unfortunately for him, his latest client is going to be a man with no shortage of lethal enemies: Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).
As you may be aware, Chance has actually already made his live-action debut back in 2010 as played by Mark Valley, when Fox’s short-lived Human Target TV series aired.

Looks like we got one more actor crossing the pool from Marvel over to DC. In this instance, it's actor Wil Traval. As of the end of Season 1 of Jessica Jones, we don't really know the fate of Wil Traval's Will Simpson -- who was just a half-step away from going full Nuke on us. But a working actor's gotta work, and it looks like Traval may be setting his sights over at DC in Greg Berlanti's Arrow-verse -- namely in the show Arrow itself.
The filmmakers over at the CW are looking to add Human Target (a.k.a. Christopher Chance) to their character roster this coming season, and according to TV Insider, they have their eyes set on Traval. Is Oliver Queen in danger?
This casting notice sure makes it seem like he might be in a bit of a pickle.
While he's normally taking aim at others, on Arrow Season 5 Episode 5, "Human Target," he'll become the latest client of Christopher Chance aka Human Target, played by Wil Traval.
You probably know Traval from his roles as the Sheriff of Nottingham on Once Upon a Time or Will Simpson on Jessica Jones.
Turns out he's no stranger to DC Comics. Welcome back, Wil!
Human Target is a professional bodyguard and master of disguise who assumes the identities of those targeted by assassins. Uh oh, right?
Sure, Oliver could be hiring Mr. Chance to protect someone else while he's busy with other, more mayoral duties, but an assassin usually targets a political entity, and that description happens to fit our man Queen at the moment.
If the term "Human Target" rings a bell,...

While you’re mourning all the shows that were canceled yesterday, take comfort in the knowledge that you can still look forward to a second season of Jessica Jones on Netflix. Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg revealed a bit more about what we can expect from the Marvel series when she chatted with Nerdist. Season 2 will veer away from relying on having Jessica Jones in every scene. So there will likely be more scenes and storylines that give star Krysten Ritter a break and give more of the spotlight to characters like Trish (Hellcat!) and Will Simpson. “You have to earn secondary character stories. You have to flesh them out enough so they can eventually carry stories of their own, which is very much what season 1 was about,” Rosenberg told Nerdist. “So I’m hopeful I can at least give [Ritter] a day off in the six month period.” Rosenberg also...

Jessica Jones, Season 1
Created by Melissa Rosenberg
Released November 20th, 2015 by Netflix
The relationship between Jessica (Krysten Ritter) and Kilgrave (David Tennant) is at the heart of Jessica Jones’ first season. Her fear of, and desire to get revenge on, Kilgrave make for compelling character motivations, propelling Jessica through her various crises without ever suggesting that he is the only noteworthy aspect of her life. He makes for an excellent foil, getting just enough humanizing backstory to be believable without his villainy ever being in doubt. In lesser hands, Kilgrave’s tortured history with his parents (revealed in “Aka Sin Bin” and “Aka 1,000 Cuts”) could suggest the show siding with the perpetrator, but showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is careful to never let the viewer forget about the pain he causes Jessica, regardless of the reason for his evil.
Tennant and Ritter are crucial in developing the characters as individuals and in relation to one another.

Well, Jessica Jones, you have my interest. So: I haven’t seen all thirteen episodes of Marvel and Netflix’s Jessica Jones yet (hey, la Casa de Emily gets busy around the holidays), but I did get in a good four episodes with my Marvel watch party buddies, and all of us were left wanting to see more.
I was excited about Jessica Jones before it came out and so far, I haven’t been disappointed. The show is in line with Daredevil in feel, but possibly even grittier in atmosphere; and by that I don’t mean harsher – I mean more real. Jones is a relatable “superhero,” primarily because she’s not a superhero. She’s a regular person in many ways – in the sense that she’s not perfect, she doesn’t have her life together, and she’s not stellar at picking the wisest way to handle a crisis.

Last week, I reviewed the first seven episodes of "Jessica Jones." Now that I've seen the full season, I have some more specific thoughts — with lots of spoilers for everything — coming up just as soon as they have free express shipping in Heaven... For the most part, my opinion's unchanged from the review based on the series' first half: Krysten Ritter and David Tennant were both great, Mike Colter has me eager to see him in the Luke Cage series, and this is easily the best of the Marvel TV shows so far, taking advantage of the creative freedom of Netflix to tell a really dark and unflinching story that did right by the source material. But certain things I was worried about became slightly more worrisome by the end, while other things wound up impressing me more than they did early on. Going point-by-point: There weren't really 13 episodes of story here.

Jessica Jones, Season 1

Five episodes watched for review
Is there more to say about gritty, troubled superheroes? Yes, according to Jessica Jones, the latest Netflix entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After this year’s Daredevil, a show following the modern trend of dark comic book characters kickstarted by Christopher Nolan’s Batman films but dating back at least to the work of Frank Miller and Alan Moore, the thought of the style being passé seemed more than plausible. Especially in light of sharing a distribution platform with Daredevil, creator Melissa Rosenberg appeared to have her work cut out for her in making Jessica Jones stand out.
And to a certain extent, the series is of a kind with its moody forbears. The voice-over narration and shadowy city streets establish a strong linkage to film noir, revisiting ground well trodden by...

Does the second Netflix super hero show compare to the first? Cinelinx reviews the entire first season of Jessica Jones. (Beware of spoilers.)

The second season of HBO’s acclaimed TV show Game of Thrones garnered even more kudos than the first.
Based on the series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones tells the story about the seven noble families fighting for control of the mythical land of Westeros, including the scheming south, the savage east, the frozen north and the ancient Wall that protects the realm from the mysterious beyond.
