Since early this year, gamers have been able to navigate the horrors of the Baker residence while playing as Ethan in Resident Evil 7, and they've also been able to look forward to a free Dlc called Not a Hero. Originally slated to come out this spring, Not a Hero has now been delayed by Capcom, but for a good reason.
In a new video released by Capcom, Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masachika Kawata reveal that Not a Hero is being delayed because the free Dlc is not ready to meet the high standards set by the main story in Resident Evil 7, which has received a largely positive reception.
"...in light of the incredible reception to the release of Resident Evil 7, we concluded that this Dlc was not good enough to meet those high expectations," Nakanishi says in the video.
Kawata adds, "Our aim is for this content...

Were it not for the influence of a series producer, Resident Evil 7 would have been very different...
Many people - ourselves included - praised Resident Evil 7 for its bold reimagining of the franchise's conventions. While far from perfect, the Resident Evil 7 certainly invoked the franchise's glory days more than Resident Evil 6 ever did.

The success of the latest Resident Evil makes it that much more strange to hear that Capcom originally intended for Resident Evil 7 to continue the cinematic action style they had established with Resident Evil 6.
In a new documentary detailing the development process of Resident Evil 7, producer Masachika Kawata says that the Resident Evil 7 team began the game's development with the mindset that they were going to use it to continue Resident Evil 6's controversial style.

Everything has an expiry date. Particularly in the movie industry, franchises have rebooted in less than ten years – Spider-Man being a prime example. This system of constant recycling may be detrimental to that particular industry, but in the realm of videogames, there’s always a guaranteed cash-in system by way of producing games from ancient franchises, simply by adding a few key features and giving the visuals a facelift. There are plenty of examples where recycling essentially the same game has proven a success time and again – Super Mario Bros perhaps being the most prominent. What’s interesting is that on the whole, that particular franchise has not evolved a great deal. In 1981 Mario was a platform-based side scrolling game where you controlled a portly Italian plumber jumping over goombahs and rescuing a hapless princess. Twenty five years later and guess what, the princess is still not in this castle.

So nice he said it twice: Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi wants fuck all to do with Resident Evil 6.
Resident Evil fans, get this through your head: Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi wants fuck all to do with Resident Evil 6.
This may seem trivial to some, but Takeuchi has been with the franchise for a long time. A very long time. Like, the beginning. As in, he's been with the franchise from the beginning. Not anymore. Takeuchi announced to Xbox Magazine last month that he was done.
"Personally, I don't think I'm gonna deal with Resident Evil 6 at all," said Takeuchi. "As far as the series is concerned I'm not planning to return until at least two more Olympics have passed!"
That's a long time, unless he means any Olympics, in which case he'd be back by 2014. If he means 2 "summer Olympics," then it's going to be a while until Takeuchi returns.

When "Resident Evil: Afterlife" extends its film franchise by one more installment later this year, Capcom wants to make sure they're paying all due attention to the games that breathed life into their property in the first place. Even if Jun Takeuchi won't be there to oversee their next game, the gears sound like they may be turning behind the scenes to assemble "Resident Evil 6" or something similar.
"The 3D movie 'Resident Evil IV Afterlife' starring Milla Jovovich is scheduled to hit theaters on September 10," Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto said in a Japanese interview with Nikkei Bp, according to a translation on Andriasang. Timed with the movie's release, we'd like to do something to heat up the game series."
The skeptic in me says, "Oh, well you have three months to announce something, build up the hype, and get it out there by the time the movie hits," so I'm...

Jun Takeuchi stepped into some big shoes when he agreed to oversee "Resident Evil 5." He took over for the series founder Shinji Mikami and didn't fail to grab attention by steering the franchise in a controversial direction. After wrapping production on "Lost Planet 2," however, he doesn't see himself sticking around for "Resident Evil 6."
"Personally, I don't think I'm gonna deal with 'Resident Evil 6' at all — as far as the series is concerned I'm not planning to return until at least two more Olympics have passed!" Takeuchi told Xbox World 360 magazine, according to Cvg.
Since he didn't specify whether or not he meant the Summer and/or Winter Olympics, we can only assume that means Takeuchi will be waiting 4-8 years before considering a return to Re. By that point, we could be looking at "RE7" or even "RE10," depending on how ambitious Capcom is. The producer didn't sound like...

Digital media will be the future of home entertainment, or at least that’s what Microsoft is counting on. Although, it would be a great coup for Sony to make money off of its competitor and get a Blu-Ray drive in the 360, Microsoft is determined to go without it. Perhaps this is a result of HD-DVD’s failings, or simply Microsoft’s standard of never supporting a competitor.
As Cvg reports:
Calls for Microsoft to increase the capacity of its games media have grown since Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi said that Capcom had to cut content from the Xbox 360 version of the game due to size restrictions of the DVD format.
I do agree that the future of home entertainment is in digital media. However, discs will be the primary source of gaming content for the foreseeable future and, as games continue to push the envelope, Microsoft will need...

Capcom has revealed that it was forced to make significant cuts to the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet 2 due to the smaller disc size. According to Kotaku, Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi said that the DVD dics used in Microsoft's console required a portion of the game to be trimmed. In comparison, the larger capacity Blu-ray discs used in Sony's PS3 meant that the cuts were not required. He said the edited content on Xbox 360 was "way too much" and that dealing with the problem was "more difficult than anything" in the development. (more)...

Capcom has revealed that a playable demo for third-person action game Lost Planet 2 will soon become available on Xbox Live, reports Joystiq. While appearing on Famitsu's Midnight Live 360 show, the game's producer Jun Takeuchi said that the taster will offer the same four-player co-operative action that was shown at E3 earlier in the month. The action featured a giant insect-like boss that had to be taken down with bipedal (more)...

A producer of Resident Evil 5 has said the sequel could be up to eight years away. Talking to The Gadget Show, Masachika Kawata said it could take anywhere from four to eight years: "We haven't decided whether we're going to make Resident Evil 6 yet. But if we do, it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four." Additionally, fellow producer Jun Takeuchi told Cvg that the next game could be a reboot, similar (more)...

Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi has defended the game's control scheme, which has been criticised for being too restrictive. The latest title in the franchise uses an over-the-shoulder perspective similar to that of its predecessor, but a recent demo was criticised by some gamers for lacking the freedom of movement found in other third-person titles. Speaking to 1-up, Takeuchi explained that the controls were made to feel restrictive in order to increase tension. "When it comes to Resident Evil, we feel that by imposing a restriction on the player you actually (more)...

Japanese publisher Capcom has said that the future development of Resident Evil 6 will have to "reinvent the series". Jun Takeuchi, producer of the forthcoming Resident Evil 5, told gaming website 1Up that the project is likely to mark the last of its kind in the franchise. The revelation follows criticism of the recently-released playable demo for the game, which some claimed is too similar to the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 4. Former Resident Evil producer Shinji Mikami recently said that the sixth game in the series will have to inject new (more)...

Over at MTV Multiplayer, Stephen Totilo had the privilege of talking with Resident Evil 5's producer Jun Takeuchi about Capcom's upcoming entry into its notorious horror franchise. They discuseed things like how many copies of the demo have been downloaded (4 million across both platforms!), the complaints about controls ("We understand that there are many people who want to run and shoot at the same time, but it's not the right alignment for the game."), the race issue, and much more. It's a quick but fascinating read, so be sure to check it out.
