In the early part of the 2010s, American studio The Asylum became both well-known and reviled for their ability to churn out a slew of incredibly cheesy, CGI-driven creature feature spectacles and ripoffs of mainstream properties, with titles ranging from “Sharknado,” “Transmorphers,” and “Zoombies” to name just a few of the company’s output. While the studio still exists in delivering cheesy ripoffs and mock-ups of blockbuster releases, very few are aware of the current output afforded by Chinese production studios filling the niche gap of cheesy creature features and genre output. Not the first of their releases but among the first to get exported to the West is Yue Ang Wang’s mash-up of “Deep Blue Sea” and “Jaws 3D” known by various titles but delivered in a dubbed version called “Blood Bite.”

A film described as a Singaporean sex thriller is going to make the decision to see it or not pretty easy for you. Either you’re automatically intrigued or you’re out. I don’t know what it means, and that’s why it’s piqued my interest. Plus, it looks pretty gruesome. Check out the poster, along with the press release, below.
Los Angeles, CA - Red Sea Media released the poster art for its upcoming sexual thriller/horror, ‘Hotel De Sade.’ The film centers around a man named Zhang Li, who is dismantled after believing that he killed his daughter instead of saving her from kidnappers. He finds himself lured to China seeking solace in pain and blood at Paradise Hotel, where every carnal and beastly desire is satiated. With a savage boss, the terrifying Burnt Man at the helm of the underground brothel, no perversion is turned away.

Britain's Prince Harry enjoyed women's beach volleyball at the Olympic Games last night (08.08.12). The prince shared a laugh with double gold medal-winning cyclist Laura Trott, who was seated next to him, as they watched Brazil take the bronze medal in a play-off against China. However, China's Zhang Li later admitted she would have pushed even harder to win had she known the prince was in attendance. She said: 'If I knew that, I would have won the game.' Both members of Brazil's team, Larissa Franca and Juliana Silva, were overjoyed to have Harry - who took his seat at Horse Guards Parade midway through the first set - see them win. Juliana said: 'I have to give a kiss...

In just two days — May 4th, 2012, you know, just in case you’re reading this from the future — director Zhang Li’s stylish action/adventure flick “Moonlight Savage” (aka “Mystery Fobber”) will arrive in Chinese theaters. So the trailer you see embedded below, the one that actually gives you a pretty good idea of what in the hell is going on, has arrived just in the nick of time. And thank God for that, right? I mean, I probably would have watched it regardless, but it’s always nice to know what to expect. After all, a man cannot live on mystery. Actually, he can, but I’m thankful for the coherence nonetheless. “Moonlight Savage” stars Xing Jiadong, Yao Lu, Yano Koji, and Li Yu. I’d love for this thing to get an English-subtitled DVD sometime in the near future. And the nearer, the better...

Doesn’t really matter whether or not Zhang Li’s “Moonlight Savage” (aka “Mysterious Fobber”) is any good. It really doesn’t. I just want to see it. Although I don’t have high expectations for the flick, my curiosity is compelling me to cover it extensively on this site. During the final poster’s unveiling, cast members where tight-lipped regarding just about every aspect of the film, so the mystery is obviously part of the propaganda. Well played. You can find the artwork below. “Moonlight Savage” opens in China on May 4th,...

I was hoping that the first trailer for director Zhang Li’s upcoming effort “Moonlight Savage” — or “Mysterious Robber”, if you prefer — would kind of help shed some like on what, exactly, the movie is supposed to be about. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. In fact, it seems I’m even more perplexed than I was when I first stumbled across the movie last week. Judging from the previously-released pics, I thought we were dealing with an action movie. After watching the embedded trailer, I’m really not sure what in the hell we’re dealing with. Right now, all we have is this trailer. It’s pretty intriguing, but it’s certainly not what I had anticipated. But don’t take my word for it — place your eyeballs all over the video you see below. It’s pretty peculiar. Hopefully we’ll get a synopsis soon...

And when I say a tiny poster, I mean a really freaking tiny poster. In fact, that’s it to the left. And when you click it — same size. If you’re going to the trouble of putting your movie one-sheet online, why not make it big enough for everyone to enjoy? Boggles the mind, it does. But, I digress. In addition to that miniature artwork, we have several stills from the flick nestled below. What we don’t have, unfortunately, is a proper synopsis. I’m sure one will come about when we get a trailer (hint, hint), but until then, we’ll just have to privately speculate on the matter. I’ve already crafted several interesting scenarios in my head, though I won’t waste your time — or embarrass myself — by posting them here. Instead, I’ll simply point lead you to the embedded pics and be done with it.

Director: Li Zhang. Review: Adam Wing. What can be said about Jackie that hasn’t been said before? 1911 will best be remembered as his 100th movie and over the years we have witnessed plenty of highs, and more than a few lows (much of his Hollywood output in fact). His contribution to action cinema however is undeniable. Police Story is often considered his best (even though Police Story 3 gives it a good run for its money) and Project A is another personal favourite of mine. Chan’s success in the 80’s is beyond comparison, and even though he’s had plenty of hits since, he seemed to reach his peak alongside long time companions Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. Time catches up with us all of course and in recent years he has moved into more dramatic territory. I doubt very much film studios these days would let him...

We’ve seen a couple of trailers for the Jackie Chan’s hundredth film already, but there’s an epic scope to this one in sharp contrast to the foreboding nature of what we’ve seen previously.
Telling the story of the founding of the Republic of China Chan co-directs with Li Zhang who has already had quite a career as a cinematographer, with John Woo’s Red Cliff films being recent standout examples.
It’s powerful stuff and there is something particularly endearing about Jackie Chan, and this is not to do his impeccable and inventive martial artistry down in any way. He has a presence and a personality which makes me root for him every time whether it be jumping through a glass roof, fighting hordes of horsebound nasties or opening a packet of crisps, I want the man to win.
Synopsis fiends should just love this one,...

A Facebook-exclusive (and English subtitled) clip has been posted on Jackie Chan’s official Facebook fan site for his (and Li Zhang’s) upcoming drama 1911 (Revolution).
Synopsis:
At the beginning of the 20th century, China is in a state of crisis. The country is split into warring factions, the citizens are starving, and recent political reforms have made matters worse, not better. The ruling Qing Dynasty, led by a seven-year-old emperor and his ruthless mother, Empress Dowager Longyu (Joan Chen), is completely out of touch after 250 years of unquestioned power. With ordinary citizens beginning to revolt openly, the Qing Dynasty has created a powerful, modern army (the “New Army”) to quash any rebellion. But weapons are expensive, and desperate for cash, the Qing leaders are trading anything they can get their hands on with foreign countries… and selling China.

Title: 1911 Director: Jackie Chan and Zhang Li Cast: Jackie Chan, Bingbing Li, Winston Chao, Joan Chen and Jaycee Chan In the grand tradition of epic films, with epic battles and significant meanings and turning points in history, “1911″ is an exercise in how delicate the balance of success and failure when it comes to movies like these. For “1911,” it’s the latter in terms of execution, performance and pacing, which is embarrassing because the subject matter is too important to modern Chinese history to under shoot. It is a failure in terms of scope and managing to balance the information alone. At the turn of the 20th century, China...

Getting to make a hundred films – think about that number for a second and let it settle in – is a feat that not many stars as huge and internationally recognised as Jackie Chan ever reach, and this film is set to be an exceptional way to celebrate that milestone.

Jackie Chan is both in front and behind the camera for 1911 Revolution, which was formerly just called 1911, an action-packed retelling of one of the most important battles in Chinese history. The film centers on the Xinhai Revolution, otherwise known as the Chinese Revolution, in which nationalist forces rose up to take down the Qing Dynasty and established the Republic of China. It was basically the beginning of modern China, kind of their Revolutionary War and Civil War rolled into one. Chan plays one of the leaders of the Nationalist movement and co-directed the film along with Zhang Li. We've previously run a teaser trailer for the film [1], in select theaters October 7, but now we've got the theatrical version. Check it out after the jump. Head over to Apple [2] for the HD version of this trailer. Thanks to First Showing [3] for the heads up on the embed. Here's the official plot description,...

Usually when you hear the phrase "Jackie Chan movie," you either think of an action film, or an action/comedy film. The "historical drama" genre doesn't really come to mind. But Chan is getting older now, and a bit more serious. He's co-directed a new film with Li Zhang, and the first trailer for it is below. 1911 tells the story of a historical rebellion in Chan's native China, and though there is definitely action involved, it's not Chan's usual fare in any sense....

Well Go USA and Variance Films released the trailer for the upcoming “1911” on Apple iTunes. The film stars Jackie Chan, Joan Chen, Lee Bing Bing, Jaycee Chan and Winston Chao. Here is the official synopsis of the film: At the beginning of the 20th century, China is in a state of crisis. The country is split into warring factions, the citizens are starving, and recent political reforms have made matters worse, not better. The ruling Qing Dynasty, led by a seven-year-old emperor, and his ruthless mother, Empress Dowager Longyu (Joan Chen) is completely out of touch after 250 years of unquestioned power. With ordinary citizens beginning to revolt openly, the Qing Dynasty has created a powerful, modern army (the "New Army") to quash any rebellion. But weapons are expensive, and desperate for cash, the Qing leaders are trading anything they can get their hands on with foreign countries… and selling China's future in the process.

To celebrate his 100th movie, action superstar Jackie Chan has went ahead and directed a big ole war epic. He partners with John Woo‘s Red Cliff cinematographer Li Zhang behind the camera, but also leads on the battlefield. We now have a short teaser and it definitely sells the action moments, but we’ll have to see if Chan can deliver the drama. After starring in crap like The Spy Next Door, he surprised in The Karate Kid update with a tender performance, so I look forward to what he does here. Check it out below via Apple for the film also starring Joan Chen, Lee Bing Bing, Jaycee Chan and Winston Chao.

Jackie Chan’s historical epic 1911 has a very short but exciting new trailer. The film directed by Chan and Li Zhang, is a historical epic about “the founding of the Republic of China when nationalist forces led by Sun Yat-sen overthrew the Qing Dynasty” and Jackie Chan also stars as Huang Xing, along with Li Bingbing, Winston Chao, Joan Chen and Jaycee Chan. We don’t get any dialogue in this trailer, which clocks in at less than a minute, but we do get a montage of action scenes.

Marking both the hundredth anniversary of the Xinghai Revolution, and the hundredth movie for its director and star, a trailer for Jackie Chan's historical epic 1911 has just arrived online over at Apple. It's Chan's first film as director since 1998 (although he shared behind-the-camera duties with Zhang Li), and co-stars Chan's son Jaycee, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao and Joan Chen. Chan plays Huang Xing, the revolutionary leader and "eight fingered general", who, through a series of violent uprisings, was instrumental in overthrowing the Quing Dynasty and establishing China as a republic. It's unusually serious stuff for the generally knockabout Chan, but on the evidence of the clip, all the better for it. Clearly a labour of love for the director, six months of punishing production finally wrapped in March this year. 1911 will open the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 22, and gets a North American release (in its full form,...

When I think of Jackie Chan I think of him doing dipsy-doos with chairs and goofing around with Chris Tucker. I don't think of him as a serious actor, though he turned in a decent performance in The Karate Kid. However, he is going beyond playing Mr. Miyagi in a new film he stars in and co-directed with first time director Zhang Li who worked as director of photography on John Woo's Red Cliff. The film is titled 1911 and will be released by Well Go USA and Variance Films in limited theaters on October 7.
Starring alongside Chan are Joan Chen (The Last Emperor, Lust, Caution), Lee Bing Bing (The Forbidden Kingdom), Winston Chao and Chan's 28-year-old son Jaycee Chan who voiced Young Monkey on the direct-to-video feature Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five.

Those intrepid boys and girls at WellGo USA and Variance Films have gotten their hands on Jackie Chan’s epic period war flick “1911″ (or “1911: Revolution” as it’s being called for domestic consumption), and have it scheduled to open in Stateside theaters October 12th, 2011. My guess is that will be a limited theatrical release followed by a major push on VOD and DVD, which is usually par for the course with Asian films in the States nowadays. Anyways, take a look at the first U.S. trailer for “1911″. It’s certainly action-packed and battle scenes galore, and Chan looks to be in fine dramatic form. And here’s something I didn’t realize before, but Chan has co-director credits with Zhang Li, who is making his feature film debut after working on a number of epics in the past, including John Woo’s “Red Cliff” two-parter. At the beginning of the 20th century,...

Billed as Jackie Chan's 100th film, 1911 tells the story of the Xinhai Revolution that led to the overthrowing of the Qing Dynasty and founding of the Republic of China 100 years ago. It is premiering at the Tokyo International Film Festival this year as one of the two opening films (alongside The Three Musketeers). Chan is co-directing 1911 with Zhang Li, who previously worked as Red Cliff's cinematographer. The cast includes Jackie Chan, Li Bing Bing, Winston Chao, Joan Chen and Jaycee Chan. Over the past couple of months, there have been a teaser and a first trailer (both with Japanese subtitles). Now comes the Hong Kong version, which looks to be the best trailer for the film so far....

Chinese director Gao Qunshu continues his bid to be the country’s top genre film maker, following up his hit visceral spy drama “The Message” with the action packed contemporary western “Wind Blast”. A breathless thriller set in the harsh wilderness of the Gobi Desert, the film overflows with stylish shootouts, chase scenes and fist fights, featuring choreography by Hong Kong action director Nicky Li, who recently also worked on the blockbusters “Let the Bullets Fly” and “Shaolin”. The film has an impressive ensemble cast of Mainland and Hong Kong stars, headed by Duan Yihong (“Hot Summer Days”), the legendary Francis Ng (“Turning Point”), Xia Yu (“Electric Shadows”), Ni Dahong (“A Woman, A Gun And A Noodle Shop”), Charlie Yeung (“After this our Exile”), Zhang Li, Yu Nan, and top martial arts star Wu Jing (“Shaolin”). The film gets right down to business, with former underground boxer turned hitman Zhang...

I’ve been shamelessly pimping Jackie Chan’s 100th flick “1911″ on this site for quite some time now, so it’s kind of nice that the first teaser for the upcoming epic has finally made its presence known on the IntraWebs. Curious parties who have been, um, curious about the production finally have a chance to sample the glory, though I suspect that some may be a little upset that his 100th endeavor doesn’t find him jumping off buildings or kicking someone into a giant fan. Even I’m a little disappointed, but I’m not willing to look a gift horse in the mouth. Film Smash (via Twitch) has the first non-subtitled teaser for Jackie Chan’s directed historical epic in 1911. The film is being classified as Chan’s 100th movie, and is a departure of sorts for the martial artist, who is mostly known for his comedy.
Starring Chan and co-directed by the star and Zhang Li, 1911 tells the story of the founding of the Republic of China when Sun Yat-sen’s forces overthrew the Ming Dynasty. Sun is played by look-alike Chinese actor Zhao Wen Xuan. Li Bingbing and Joan Chen also star. The film started shooting in September 2010 and will be released in October 2011.

Will Jackie Chan's 1911 be merely the latest in the current wave of Chinese ultra-nationalist films or is the star and director aiming a little higher than that for his 100th film? Yep, he's already made another (fairly epic) movie before you even knew it. Bleeding Cool found a trailer for an upcoming Chinese film titled 1911 that is apparently being billed as Jackie Chan's 100th feature film, not only because he stars in it but also because he co-directed. The film is a historical epic about "the founding of the Republic of China when nationalist forces led by Sun Yat-sen overthrew the Qing Dynasty." This is actually an early Japanese teaser for the Chinese film, so it's got a kind of classically epic feel to it, but I'm sure there's more to see of this. Jackie Chan does look awesome though. Believe it or not, Jackie Chan has made 100 movies. How many actors can honestly say they’ve participated in that many cinematic endeavors? Very few, I’m sure. The talented actor’s latest effort, the historical drama “1911″, was recently picked up for distribution by Well Go USA and Showbox for release in the Us and the UK, respectively. Exact release information in these territories isn’t available as of this writing, though yours truly is hoping the film will see the light of day sometime next year. In my humble and extremely biased opinion, it’s kind of cool that Chan has been around for so long. He might not be able to flip and spin and break bones as much as he used to, but the guy is still out there doing his thing. That’s an impressive feat in and of itself. Here’s a quick rundown of...

Director Gao Qunshu presented a new trailer for his upcoming action thriller “Wind Blast”. The film is a contemporary Chinese western where four police detectives must track down a murder suspect and his girlfriend. Unbeknownst to them the man they are hunting hired a pair of professional assassins of his own. The trailer has a tense, grim, Cormac McCarthy kind of feel to it, where sparse, desolate moments are punctuated by sudden bursts of extreme violence. The film stars Francis Ng, Xia Yu, Charlie Yeung, Duan Yihong, Wu Jing, Ni Dahong, and Zhang Li, and is scheduled for release October 28.
