‘Succession’ has gone out with one final bang: The HBO drama won two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night — the most of any series — for best drama series and also for best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong was on hand in New York to accept the award, while several of the show’s writers were also in LA to accept the honor.
This reps the final major awards show where “Succession” (which ended its run last May) was still eligible. Besides best drama, the show also won the episodic drama prize, for the episode “Living+,” written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.
The WGA Awards recognized the best of 2023’s television and film via its annual event held this year at the Hollywood Palladium for the West Coast edition and at New York’s Edison Ballroom for the East Coast ceremony.
Big winners on the film side included “American Fiction” writer Cord Jefferson,...

A candid Gina Yashere was quick to explain who made the decision to end Bob ❤ Abishola after only five seasons – it was CBS, she exclaimed. But she also admitted the budget cuts made her treat the show’s supporting characters with even more respect in its final year.
As part of the cost-cutting move to secure a renewal for the Warner Bros comedy, the sitcom’s supporting cast was offered to continue as recurring with a five-episode guarantee. Only stars Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku had their series-regular options exercised to remain on the multi-camera comedy full time.
The comedy from executive producers Yashere, Chuck Lorre, Al Higgins and Matt Ross will still produce 13 episodes in its final season.
“The industry is in flux right now. The money that was there 10 years ago is here anymore,” Yashere told reporters Tuesday on the Warner Bros lot. “We made sure when we work with the characters,...

For now, “Comics Unleashed” will fill the slot in a limited run with nightly airings beginning on Monday, Sept. 18, the network announced Monday.
The round-style comedy talk show features Allen speaking with a panel of rotating comedians, including Sebastian Maniscalco, Tiffany Haddish, Gabriel Iglesias, Cedric the Entertainer, Howie Mandel, Leslie Jones, Wayne Brady, Roy Wood, Jr., Whitney Cummings, Jb Smoove, Billy Gardell, Margaret Cho, Brad Garrett, Sheryl Underwood, Adam Carolla, Gina Yashere, Dane Cook, Sinbad, George Wallace, Caroline Rhea, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier, Kevin Hart, Chelsea Handler, Katt Williams, Dennis Miller, Jamie Kennedy, Iliza Shlesinger, Jon Lovitz,...

Bayo Akinfemi, who stars in Bob ❤️ Abishola, is reacting to the news that the CBS sitcom would be reducing most of its cast to recurring roles.
Akinfemi plays the role of Goodwin and had been a series regular since its first season. However, ahead of its Season 5 renewal, Akinfemi and 10 of his co-stars were going to get bumped down to recurring and not guaranteed 22 episodes per season amid budget cuts.
The only stars to remain regulars on the show were the two leads that give the show its name played by Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku.
“It was a bit surprising, for all of 10 seconds,” Akinfemi told The New York Times in an interview before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “We are disappointed, but we also understand at the end of the day it’s a business.”

There will be some big changes whenever Bob Hearts Abishola returns for its fifth season on CBS.
That much we've known for a few months, ever since it was revealed that only Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku will return as series regulars.
While fans were left in shock hearing that most of the show's cast had been demoted, Bayo Akinfemi wasn't that surprised.
"It was a bit surprising, for all of ten seconds," Akinfemi, who plays Goodwin, explained to The New York Times.
"We are disappointed, but we also understand at the end of the day, it's a business."
The move is said to be a cost-cutting measure as the economics of broadcast TV continue to be challenged amid lower ratings.
Losing 11 series regulars is enough to change any show, so there's no telling what will become of the much-loved comedy.

Word that Bob Hearts Abishola was scaling back from 13 series regulars to two didn’t exactly shock series star Bayo Akinfemi.
“It was a bit surprising, for all of 10 seconds,” Akinfemi, who plays Goodwin, tells The New York Times. “We are disappointed, but we also understand at the end of the day [that] it’s a business.”

Gina Yashere, who plays Kemi in the CBS sitcom Bob ❤️ Abishola, is breaking down the reasons why actors and writers have gone on strike.
The comedian took to Instagram to share a video where she points out the reasons for the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike. One of the first reasons she cites is healthcare explaining that “to qualify for healthcare you have to earn over $26,000,” noting that “87% of actors working in this industry in America do not earn enough to qualify for healthcare.”
“The Meryl Streeps and the Tom Cruises are 0.2% of all actors working in this industry today,” Yashere, who is co-creator and writer of the sitcom, added.
Yashere said that writers have to earn $40k a year to qualify for healthcare benefits, but 92% of writers don’t earn enough to get those benefits.
“Did you know there are people within these networks who are being paid more money...
