The first short story in Andrzej Sapkowski's epic saga was simply titled "The Witcher." It was printed in the Polish fantasy and sci-fi magazine Nowa Fantastyka in 1986, as part of a contest. Sapkowski didn't win the top prize then, but readers were attracted to Geralt of Rivia's struggle to free a princess from an unfair curse. That encouraged Sapkowski, and in 1994, "Blood of Elves" became the first full novel about the mutant monster-hunter's trials. Gradually, Geralt's popularity trickled into the worldwide consciousness, helped along by the 2007 video game adaptation by CD Project.
Geralt's (portrayed by Henry Cavill) first adventure is the third episode of Netflix's "The Witcher." Titled "Betrayer Moon," the myth of the striga becomes a showcase for Geralt's gruff brand of empathy. In his world, monsters can't be allowed to roam free, but when he can, he saves them from their fates. The world of "The Witcher" is often cruel,...

Fall TV season starts tonight, with most major shows returning, so I am posting a quick list of some of the upcoming guest appearances and shows that involve Caprica's cast, writers and Bear McCreary. I have included a few appearances from Battlestar actors, too, that were announced in recent weeks and kind of hard to miss on different TV sites.
There are more than a few appearances missing from the list, mostly because there isn't even an approximate date or episode number attached to them yet - Alessandra Torresani in American Horror Story, Peter Wingfield in Sanctuary, Ben Cotton in The Secret Circle, Katee Sackhoff in The Big Bang Theory, Genevieve Buechner, Richard Harmon and Kacey Rohl in The Haunting Hour, Mike Dopud in Blue Mountain State, Aaron Douglas in Flashpoint, and probably a few others.
The list is posted below. A few updates first.

Jane Espenson has announced the new project she has been working on with Alessandra Torresani, Brad Bell (Cheeks) and Sean Hemeon, in an interview with CliqueClack. Yes, it's Husbands, a web series about "two guys, a newly dating couple, who celebrate a new marriage equality law in Vegas and wake up married." A couple of snippets from the interview:
Km: What do you hope to become of Husbands in the long run? If it simply stays as a free series on the web, will that satisfy not only you but the actors?
Je: Honestly, I would love to see Husbands turn into a network television show. I’m loving the freedom that we’re enjoying as we put it together ourselves, but there’s something about it that feels so accessible — it’s Ab Fab, Dharma and Greg, Will and Grace … it feels...

Tons of updates today, most of them from Comic-Con.
Let's start with Sasha Roiz - he makes his first appearance on Warehouse 13 tomorrow (Monday, 9/8c, Syfy).
CP24 has a recent video interview with him and he also did a Q&A with the press that is finally up on several sites. I think Starry Mag has the least edited version of it. The interview is mostly about Warehouse 13, but he also talks about his other new projects and Caprica. Snippets:
So can you at least tell us how many episode we’re going to see you in Warehouse 13?
I’m not sure the specific number, but I mean I’m there for a good chunk. But I’m there for a good - yes, all the sudden this just doesn’t make sense you know. But no, I’m there for a good chunk of the season,...

From the assistant director of 3 Ninjas: Knuckle Up comes an apocalyptic vision of a frozen hell on earth. Sounds like Alberta, Canada. The film is called 10,000 Days and the first trailer premiered a while ago. Not sure how we missed this one as it looks impressive considering the budget, but hey, you can't be everywhere, right?
Synopsis:
10,000 days ago, Comet 23 struck the Pacific Ocean with the magnitude of all the nuclear weapons in the world. The Best Family was among the lucky few who survived the heat blast and fire storms. And then the freezing began. The comet knocked the Earth away from the sun, encasing the planet in snow and ice. For those who survived, life was violent and dangerous.
The daily battle wasn't just against the punishing climate but against each other for the basic necessities that meant life or death. Still, the weather was growing colder and the ice was expanding.

Sanctuary, Syfy's surprise (to me) hit returns with new episodes April 15th, and the show has recently been picked up for a fourth season. I say surprise, by the way, only because the show plays fast and loose with just how wild it is going to be, and how strange the events that unfold will become, and that doesn't often sell well, even for sci-fi. When last we saw our crew, they were in a city at the center of the Earth, and who knows what might be in store for us with another season.
To help kick off the second half of the season, stars Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne were available for a Q & A call recently, and the result was really quite a cool interview.
Check it out below, along with a sneak of the next episode, and a few teaser images.

Director: Paul Ziller. Review: Adam Wing. I don’t know what scares me the most about Stonehenge Apocalypse - the fact that the line “A nuclear attack on Stonehenge will destroy the entire planet” is used, or the fact that I actually quite enjoyed it. On the most primitive of levels of course. I say primitive, I’m trying to remain respected here. I actually enjoyed it because it really wasn’t that bad a movie, note the word usage however - ‘really wasn’t that bad a movie’. At no point did I state that it was a good movie, ok? When a group of archaeologists dig up a human skeleton near the historical monument of Stonehenge, an ancient piece of machinery is discovered hidden beneath the ground. Not knowing what it could be, the workers accidentally trigger the mechanism and start a chain of events that could very...

Utter ludicrousness arrives in the form of “Stonehenge Apocalypse”, an opportunistic made for TV outing aiming to cash in on the semi success of the considerably flashier and more glamorous “2012”. Director Paul Ziller certainly has a great deal of experience in the low budget disaster movie arena, having helmed the likes of “Solar Strike”, “Polar Storm” and the excellently titled “Ice Quake”, not to mentioned a long list of cheap creature features including “Beyond Loch Ness”, “Snakehead Terror”, “Swarmed” and more. The film has a relatively recognisable cast made up of television stars, headlined by Misha Collins (“Supernatural”), with support from Hill Harper (“CSI: NY”), Torri Higginson (“Stargate: Atlantis”) and Peter Wingfield (“Highlander: The Source”). Coming with an all important behind the Scenes featurette and trailer, the film is out now on region 2 DVD thanks to Anchor Bay Entertainment. The film follows Collins as Jacob Glaser, a formerly respected and...

Stonehenge Apocalypse
Stars: Misha Collins, Hill Harper, Torri Higginson Peter Wingfield | Written by Paul Ziller, Brad Abraham | Directed by Paul Ziller
Whilst hosting his late night talk show, disgraced scientist and conspiracy theorist Dr. Jacob Glaser (Collins) is alerted to the news that the stones of Stonehenge have begun moving of their own accord. Believing that the anomaly is connected to a recent electromagnetic energy burst that spread from Maine to England, he travels to England in the hopes of proving his unfounded theory – that Stonehenge is actually part of an alien terraforming device that is currently modifying the planet for it’s new inhabitants! When scientists at the Stonehenge site discover a countdown clock hidden within the radio waves emanating from it becomes a race against time to prevent the forthcoming apocalypse.
Meanwhile across the globe Joseph Leshem (Harper), a former colleague of Dr. Glaser, has discovered a hidden...

The Caprica Season 1.5 DVD is out this Tuesday (Dec. 21) and you can still pre-order it on Amazon. NBC has sent out copies for review and the first interesting bits about the commentary tracks come from IGN's Eric Goldman; one about plans to have James Callis and Tricia Helfer appear in the second half of season one, and another about one of the Final Five appearing in season two (if the show hadn't been pulled).
If you haven't seen the last five episodes, the general consensus is that they're the best part of the season. For better or worse, the show got a lot more prequelized and the hour that was cut last year can be felt, especially in the last two episodes, but the storylines, characters, dialogue and everything else stayed as frakking inspired as it always has been. Be warned, though. The finale wraps up the most prominent storylines...

10 days left until the Caprica Season 1.5 DVD is out.
A quick round of cast updates:
Alessandra Torresani starts shooting a new pilot this week, called Circling the Drain. It's a single-camera comedy about a reporter who gets demoted from the style section to the obits desk at a newspaper. You can read a message from Alessandra about the project on her blog.
Deadline writes, "The Circling the Drain presentation will be completed by Jan.1, giving the project a jump start on the broadcast pilot season where production usually starts in February. While the project was originally envisioned as a cable show, the producers are now looking to cast a wider net for it."
Esai Morales has wrapped filming the webseries Los Americans. The first photos from his new movie, Gun Hill Road, which premieres at Sundance in January, showed up this week at Daemon's Movies. There is also an interesting...
