Prior to the release of her Amazon Original pilot, Transparent, we asked creator Jill Soloway a few questions on the art of storytelling, her inspirations and the future of her new show. Read the article below.
Writer/Director/Producer Jill Soloway has always considered herself a “storyteller first and a filmmaker by necessity”. As a child, she and her sister created and performed plays for anyone that they could get to watch. This evolved into a drive to write and direct films and TV and to tell longer and better kinds of stories. Her career has been a successful one, serving as a writer and producer for series such as United States of Tara and Six Feet Under - for which she was nominated for 3 primetime Emmy Awards and a WGA award. She also took home the Best Director prize at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival for her feature film Afternoon Delight...

Despite a bunch of bad buzz and poor word of mouth, fans seem to have enjoyed what they saw of RoboCop yesterday during the film’s panel at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. Most people were surprised too, as everything we’ve heard about the film has been of the negative variety and I think critics had started to write the film off. Those in attendance were probably expecting something pretty rough so when the footage turned out to actually be alright, it surprised many.
You can check out the reactions from the Twitterphere below. For the most part, it’s all pretty encouraging, though there are a few things that worry me. For one, the film is going for a PG-13 rating and considering that the original was a “hard R,” that’s pretty disappointing. There are also some changes to the story that may not go over well with fans,...

The Robocop footage looked absolutely fantastic! The storyline exploring man & machine wrestling w/ his own soul & humanity sounds powerful.— Becky D'Anna (@hwoodminotaur) July 20, 2013 RoboCop footage looked solid, not as bad as I was expecting but not amazing either. Solid action, looks good, but still not convinced. #Sdcc— Alex Billington (@firstshowing) July 20, 2013 RoboCop reboot footage doesn't get an overly enthusiastic response but it looked ok. #Sdcc #ComicCon2013 #HallH #RoboCop— Sean Wicks (@wixpix) July 20, 2013 I'll admit: first bit of finished RoboCop footage didn't look that bad at all. Actually looked quite good, but so did Total Recall at first.— Alex Billington (@firstshowing) July 20, 2013 Just saw a trailer for Robocop. Actually looks not too bad.... http://t.co/spcsWdu5MO— Dark Bunny Tees (@DarkBunnyTees) July 20, 2013 Old Robocop suit shown in Comic-Con trailer as first prototype.— Ethan Anderton (@Ethan_Anderton) July 20, 2013 Honestly, Robocop footage isn't mindblowing but it's got potential. Definitely still...

Writer/director Omar Naim embraces the notion that science fiction allows us to observe present-day issues and human quandaries from an outsider perspective.
His award-winning 2004 film The Final Cut explored questions of memory and reality in a near-future world where people can have their babies implanted with chips that record every moment of their life. Now he’s exploring the science fiction-thriller genre further, by rewriting the Amazon Studios Development Slate project Children of Others.
Children of Others is about a barren woman who miraculously conceives with the help of a mysterious fertility clinic, only to discover that she’s bearing an alien baby who may be the precursor to invasion – or the only hope for mankind. Veteran producer Edward Saxon (Silence of the Lambs, Adaptation) is attached to the project.
We spoke to Omar about his inspirations, his own film, and the challenges and opportunities that come from working...
