Stranger Things’ rabid internet fandom leads to some fascinating places. People connect different parts of the series in novel ways, often leading to intense discourse about storylines and characters that some choose to forget. But one Stranger Things character from season 1 has had an uncommon staying power in the fandom. A quick look at the show’s Reddit board or trending hashtags on social media will lead to the more-than-periodic mention of Nancy Wheeler’s (Natalia Dyer) first-season best friend, Barbara “Barb” Holland (Shannon Purser).

The last Stranger Things season dropped almost two years ago with many things changing for the Hawkins crew. The show’s fourth season had multiple storylines, including the demon Vecna which became a pop cultural phenomenon. With shooting delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, filming for season 5 began in January.
Ross Duffer, who is one-half of the creators The Duffer Brothers, shared more behind-the-scenes images of the production. The current batch of images has many allusions to Jonathan and Nancy. One image, in particular, seems to be haunting as Jonathan and Nancy look back at something sinister from Steve Harrington’s car.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year and is now three months into its twelve month shooting schedule… but in the midst of filming, Finn Wolfhard is also doing the press rounds to promote the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which is set to reach theatres on March 22nd. An interview with The Hollywood Reporter was part of his press tour, and during that conversation, Wolfhard was asked about the ongoing production of Stranger Things season 5, which will also be the final season of the show. Since this is how it wraps up, it seems fitting that Wolfhard said it will be a return of the dynamics of the first season.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year – and it’s going to continue making its way through production for quite a while longer, as new cast member Linda Hamilton has said that filming is going to take an entire year. What is it about a woman in charge that brings out the critics?
No matter the genre, you can always find a female lead character that gets a strong negative audience response. Call it a hot take, but we think a lot of those women deserved better than the treatment they got.
Let's be real; some of these characters are children. How terrible could they really be?
These unpopular ladies definitely deserved better from fans, and we're prepared to die on that hill.
Here's why we'll stan these women 'til the end, even if we're the only ones.
Maggie Pierce: Grey's Anatomy
The condemnation thrown at Maggie Pierce was always over the top, especially considering she's a young, gifted, Black surgeon with a complicated past whose unrelenting optimism should have charmed viewers.
It's totally understandable that folks didn't love the Ellis-Richard-love-child storyline she brought with her to Grey's Anatomy, but...

Season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things is also going to be the final season of the show. In the realm of coming-of-age films, Are you there, God? It’s me, Margaret. stands as a poignant exploration of the intricate tapestry of emotions that come with early adolescence. Adapted from Judy Blume’s novel of the same name, the film traces the journey of Margaret Simon, an 11-year-old girl poised on the precipice of puberty. Set against the backdrop of the 1970s, Margaret’s story not only delves into the physiological changes of growing up but also unearths the emotional evolution that accompanies this transitional phase.
Margaret Simon’s uniqueness emerges from her unconventional relationship with spirituality. Growing up in a household where her parents’ interfaith marriage has given her the freedom to choose her religion, she forges her own connection with God. While her parents remain non-practitioners of their respective faiths, Margaret finds solace in her personal conversations with God, a higher power she’s not entirely certain exists.

Teen movies are one of the most beloved genres, from John Hughes' Molly Ringwald trilogy to the quest for virginity loss with the help of a warm, apple pie. But there's another part of adolescence that often gets lost on the big screen — especially for women. There are very few stories about the tween years: an uncomfortable and confusing time when you're unsure if you should still sleep with stuffed animals or start stuffing your bra. It involves the uncertainty of puberty, peer pressure, and oppressive school rules. I have so many memories from this formative time period burned into my brain; like the time a boy said I was gross or how desperately I wanted to look like the silky-haired popular girls.
Because of this gap in tween representation on screen, "girls are expected to go straight from 'Doc McStuffins' to 'Euphoria,'" Rachel Shukert shrewdly observed in Vulture.

For over fifty years, Judy Blume’s classic and groundbreaking novel Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. has impacted generations with its timeless coming of age story, insightful humor, and candid exploration of life’s biggest questions.
In Lionsgate’s big-screen adaptation, 11-year-old Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) is uprooted from her life in New York City for the suburbs of New Jersey, going through the messy and tumultuous throes of puberty with new friends in a new school. She relies on her mother, Barbara (Rachel McAdams), who is also struggling to adjust to life outside the big city, and her adoring grandmother, Sylvia (Kathy Bates), who isn’t happy they moved away and likes to remind them every chance she gets.

Legendary author Judy Blume has written 29 books and swore the only one she would never consider selling for the screen was 1970’s Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, her timeless coming-of-age book that became a rite of passage for just about every girl, like Margaret, going from age 11 to 12, and probably their mothers as well. Blume held fast until 2018 when writer-director Kelly Fremon Craig and her mentor, Oscar-winning filmmaker James L. Brooks, came calling with just the right idea for an adaptation. The deal was sealed. The movie is here. Blume says she is probably the only author to say the movie is better than her book.
It may have taken half a century to do it but, there can be no doubt that Craig has gotten it right. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is as perfect an adaptation of a life-changing book as there will ever be.

Hollywood — the world where stars are born or made has also been called out for having so many vices and for encouraging stereotypes. And the Netflix hit show Stranger Things is no different. The show has faced heavy criticism in the past for its lack of diversity and now for typecasting. In fact, Stranger Things star Shannon Purser called out the show and the industry at large, saying that “fat actors” are not allowed upward mobility.

Stranger Things could have had a different-looking Steve Harrington had Chase Stokes not “absolutely effed up” during his audition for the hit Netflix series. The Outer Banks star opened up about his failed audition during a fan event in Huntington Beach, California, telling Access Hollywood, “So I actually read for Steve Harrington and forgot all the lines and absolutely effed up the audition.” He continued, “I drove eight hours from Atlanta back to Orlando regretting every moment of my life on that.” The role of Steve ultimately went to Joe Keery, who has become a fan favorite over the show’s four seasons. Steve starts out as the boyfriend of Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) in the first season and is portrayed as a jock who loves to torment and bully others. However, he has a redemption arc in Season 2 and eventually becomes a core part of the main group. Stokes had high praise for Keery,...

The Netflix series Stranger Things will be coming to an end with its fifth season, and the beginning of the end is getting very close now. David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper on the show, has said he will be working on both Stranger Things and the Marvel movie Thunderbolts (which has a release date of July 26, 2024) at the same time in Atlanta this year. And now his co-star Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, has revealed when he’ll be reporting to set this year: right after he finishes his schoolwork in May.

The Netflix series Stranger Things will soon be heading into production on its fifth and final season – so soon that David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper on the show, will be working on both Stranger Things and the Marvel movie Thunderbolts at the same time in Atlanta this year. And cast member Sadie Sink is not looking forward to the show ending, saying that the idea of Stranger Things coming to an end is “scary and sad”.
Speaking with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush on Today, Sink said (with thanks to Deadline), “We know that it’s happening and that it’s the last season, so it’s going to be emotional, I’m sure. Spoiler-free, just with the way my character ended in season 4, I have no idea what is going to happen. But I’ll be there. … (Stranger Things ending) is going to be awful. It’s going to be horrible.

The most popular moment in season 4 of the Netflix series Stranger Things came when the character Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) played guitar along to the Metallica song “Master of Puppets” while facing off with the forces of evil in the Upside Down. And during a recent interview with Howard Stern, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich explained the decision to let the show use the song, and discussed what it was like to see the renewed interest in “Master of Puppets” thirty-six years after the song was first released.
Speaking with Stern, Ulrich said (with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the transcription), “It used to be, with Metallica, we were always the ‘no’ guys. … A few years ago, we reversed it, we did a 180. We just said, ‘You know what? This is stupid. Why are we hanging onto these [songs] like they’re so important, like they’re the crown jewels? Let...

In fact, during an interview with Collider Harbour said that he’s going to be pouring his soul into Stranger Things season 5.

When "Stranger Things" launched in 2016, most of its cast were virtual unknowns. Aside from veteran stars like Winona Ryder, the show was the first leading role for many of its cast members, especially the younger kids. Part of what made the show work so well was the fact that all those young kids were supremely-talented. The Netflix hit asks a lot from its stars — lots of action, lots of emotion — and every member of the ever-growing ensemble is up to the task, which makes for a fun watch.
It's also a useful launching pad for further stardom. The series tends to take breaks between seasons — three years passed between Seasons 3 and 4 — leaving the cast free to pursue other acting opportunities. This raises their profiles, providing them a solid base from which to hopefully continue their careers after "Stranger Things" comes to an end with its fifth season. Unsurprisingly, a lot...

Another month, another slew of movies and TV shows take their final bow before leaving Netflix for different digital pastures. Ever since “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer admitted to digitally altering special effects in past episodes, speculation has run rampant about other changes they may have made to the popular Netflix series without telling fans.
“We have George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about,” Matt Duffer said in a recent interview, referring to the “Star Wars” creator’s tendency to tinker with his old films by adding up-to-date special effects (often to fans’ chagrin).
This led to an influx of theories about an early episode involving Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton), and a scene involving him taking photos of Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) while she undressed. A viral TikTok rumor suggested that the Duffer Brothers had removed this scene to make the character seem less creepy, and to potentially avoid bad PR in an increasingly sensitive online climate. “It’s hilarious that an article bashing the show for retroactively editing a scene (based off a false TikTok rumor) has now had to retroactively edit their own article. Oops,” reads a post on the Stranger Things Writers’ Twitter account this morning.

The “Stranger Things” writers’ room is refuting recent reports that older episodes of the Netflix series are being re-edited years after the fact. The official Twitter account for the show’s writers posted the following message: “PSA: no scenes from previous seasons have ever been cut or re-edited. And they never will be.”
Reports surfaced earlier in July that Netflix had re-edited a scene in the show’s first scene to make the character Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) appear less “pervy.” The scene in question found Jonathan photographing Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) without her knowledge. Some fans believed that Jonathan continued to take photos of Nancy as she undressed, which is not how the scene is cut in the episode, thus leading to theories that the streamer was re-editing previous content.

Fresh off some jaw-dropping viewership numbers, “Stranger Things” Season 4 Vol. 1 scored its fourth consecutive Outstanding Drama Series Emmy nominations, but acting hopefuls Sadie Sink and Millie Bobby Brown ultimately didn’t make the cut.
The penultimate season of “Stranger Things” received 13 nods in total, shy of the previous record of 18 total nominations in Season 1 and devoid of any acting nominations at all.

“Stranger Things” Season 4 garnered 13 Primetime Emmy nominations on Tuesday, including outstanding drama series.

Those aren’t July 4 fireworks; they’re “Stranger Things 4” Fourth of July Weekend ratings.

Korean-language sensation “Squid Game” Season 1 was the first; it remains the overall record holder with 1.65 billion hours of viewership over its first four weeks. “Squid Game” has been renewed for a second season.
Now with 1.15 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days of availability, “Stranger Things 4” is the first English-language series to top that mind-numbing billion-hour threshold.

Netflix's decision to save the final two episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 until July 1 didn't go down well with fans.
The streaming service dropped a full-length trailer for the final two episodes on Tuesday, and it looks like we're in for another A+ conclusion for the 1980s-set drama.
The mission to save Hawkins is poised to be Eleven's biggest battle to date, and after learning how she and Vecna know each other on Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 7, well, it's going to lead to some more heartbreak.
The trailer utilizes Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," once again to build the tension as all of these characters prepare to fight demons, both literal and physical.
One scene that sticks out from the trailer features Max caught by Vecna again, likely teasing a brutal beatdown between the pair.

Queue up your favorite song, because Season 4 of “Stranger Things” — and its new villain, Vecna — will be back on July 1. Netflix dropped the official trailer for Volume 2 of the massively popular horror sci-fi series, hinting at what’s to come in the final two supersized episodes of the show’s penultimate season.
Volume 1 ended on a major cliffhanger, right after it was revealed that Vecna is actually Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower), a Hawkins boy from the ’50s who became the first test subject in the same government experiment as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) was still inside the Upside Down at the end of the season, but first-look images released by Netflix on June 14 revealed that she survives and makes it back to Hawkins — for now.
