Smallville Ratings Are Improving: Best In A Year

7 November 2009 1:10 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Even though Smallville has been stuck in the death slot of Friday nights, (thanks, CW), the ratings for the Tom Welling-starring fantasy series are improving.

Now admittedly Smallville is not capturing 8 million viewers like NBC’s Law & Order or 7.9 million viewers like Ghost Whisperer on Friday nights, but it is picking up.

Smallville drew in 2.76 million viewers in overnight numbers from last night.  But more importantly, the show won the demographic of adults between 18-34 & men 18-34.

It also hit a new season high and their best performance in these categories in over a year, since September of 2008.

Though the increases are roughly about 8%, something is better than nothing.  Matching their best performance from a year ago is also good.

Whether this is from a grassroots effort of word of mouth or people are just catching on to the show with it’s new, slightly darker approach… who cares, »

There's a family reunion tonight on  , as Clark (Tom Welling) faces his biological father at last. Julian Sands enters the scene as Jor-El, who comes to Earth in search of his son.

On "Kandor," Jor-El arrives at the Kent farm looking for Kal-El.  Unfortunately for him, he isn't around and he instead encounters a different being - Chloe (Allison Mack).  It's a good thing she doesn't intend to capture the guy and claim his powers.  That's already someone else's job.

Instead, Mr. El, if that's his real name, runs into Chloe (Allison Mack). In the meantime, Zod (Callum Blue) decides it's time to deploy some real guns in finding Jor-El, bringing Tess (Cassidy Freeman) into the fold. Zod normally wouldn't care, but he is convinced that Jor-El is in fact the Blur, and he wants to know the secret to his powers. Clark, however, realizes that his father is alive and on Earth, and it's a race to find him before Zod does. Smallville: Jor-El Faces Zod on "Kandor" Sneak Peeks

3 November 2009 9:00 PM, PST | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

The CW has released two new clips for the upcoming episode of Smallville, and it looks as though it's more exciting than last week's Clois liplock.  Well, "Kandor" marks Julian Sands' first appearance on the series as Jor-El.  What's more, he's going face-to-face with Callum Blue's villainous Zod, who's hungry for some superpowers of his own.

On "Kandor," Jor-El arrives at the Kent farm looking for his son.  However, Clark (Tom Welling) is occupied elsewhere so the newcomer meets Chloe instead.  Unfortunately for them, Zod's on the lookout for the Blur and he thinks it's Jor-El.

'Smallville' . Crossfire

3 November 2009 7:03 AM, PST | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

This review may contain spoilers. Last week saw Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) take the forefront in an utterly forgettable comeback tale as the character struggled to deal with his dark impulses, developing alcoholism and his growing directionless in life. "Crossfire" more than makes up for "Roulette," featuring a return to form for Oliver Queen, classic Lois (Erica Durance) wit and a bad-ass Tess (Freema Cassidy) with mad assassin skills capable of taking down a Kandorian. Plus, the mild mannered Clark Kent (Tom Welling) finally grows a pair when it comes to his love life. Keeping close to the original DC tale, Ollie encounters a young girl named Mia Dearden (Elise Gatien) who was forced onto the street following a life of abuse and extortion. Trapped under the influence of a pimp ... »

Smallville: Preview of Episode 9.06 "Crossfire"

30 October 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

We're still on the Oliver Queen express here on Smallville, as another episode focused on the development his character is up tonight.  However, it looks as though Lois (Erica Durance) and Clark (Tom Welling) are getting ready to steal the show.  That's right, tonight's episode marks that defining moment that Clois fans have been waiting for all season.

On "Crossfire," Oliver (Justin Hartley) encounters a young street girl, who has an extraordinary power.  Guest star Elise Gatien portrays Mia Aka Speedy, skilled in archery and the eventual prot??g?? of our Green Arrow.

Who's Returning to Smallville?

29 October 2009 6:42 PM, PDT | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »

Over Smallville's nine-year run, the show's universe has fittingly expanded; yet, fans would like to see a few characters come back. Though we haven't see her in quite a while, Martha Kent (Annette O'Toole) is still alive and well. Even though Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) is presumably dead, the Superman mythos would have to disagree. Jimmy Olson (Aaron Ashmore) was also lost last season, but the real photog and eventual best friend to Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is still running around somewhere.

Executive producer Kelly Souders discusses the fate, fortune or future of various Smallville characters who've been missing in action...

We previously announced that Julian Sands was going to be making a guest appearance on Smallville and now TheCW has revealed that he will be playing Jor-El.  I'm not too knowledgeable about Superman mythology, but my sources (ie. Wikipedia and those few movies I've watched) tells me that he's Clark (aka Kal-El) Kent's biological father.  We have promo photos and a synopsis to share with you.

Smallville to Continue with a 10th Season?

28 October 2009 12:51 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It seems that the fans of one of the CW Network's longest-running shows might have another season to look forward to. Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files recently spoke with Smallville executive producer Kelly Souders who revealed that they are "pushing" for a 10th season of the popular series.

"We are really, really pushing for season 10," Souders told the site. "We really hope it happens."

While Smallville's ratings have declined since moving to Friday nights this season, it seems that the drop hasn't been as bad as originally perceived, and Souders even thinks the numbers can increase.

"I think the word still isn't out there that we're on Friday nights. So if people keep tuning in and telling their friends about it, I think [a 10th season] is quite likely."

Souders was also asked if fans would ever get to see series star Tom Welling don the iconic Superman costume in the series, which »

Smallville Producer Sets Record Straight on Chloe-Clark Relationship

26 October 2009 6:43 PM, PDT | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »

Few TV love triangles have sparked fan debate like the one between Smallville's Chloe (Allison Mack), Lois (Erica Durance) and Clark (Tom Welling).

On one hand, Chloe is Clark's longtime best friend, and though she has pined hard for the future Man of Steel, lately their relationship has been strained. On the other hand, it's hard to overlook the Superman mythology that says Lois and Clark are pretty much destined to be together. But Chlark 'shippers still haven't given up hope that the chemistry between Clark and Chloe will turn into something more.

Smallville: Who's going to die?

So, TVGuide.com asked executive producer Kelly Souders to settle the debate once and for all: Will Clark and Chloe ever have a romantic relationship?

Promo, Photos & Synopsis – Smallville 9.07 "Crossfire"

26 October 2009 5:35 PM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Friday (October 30) means a new episode of Smallville (featuring the first kiss of two central characters!).  I remember Justin Hartley when he played Fox Crane on the soap Passions.  It's embarrassing, but I used to love that show.  That aside, TheCW has released a promo, a synopsis and promo photos for the episode.  Check them out.

Oliver Takes DC Comics’ Character Speedy Under His Wing

Oliver (Justin Hartley) tries to help a young street girl, Mia Aka Speedy (guest star Elise Gatien), get out of her dangerous life by offering to train her, but Mia double crosses him.

Lois (Erica Durance) asks Clark (Tom Welling) to help her land a job as an on-air television host, but the two are shocked when the station wants to hire them as a team.

Allison Mack, Cassidy Freeman and Callum Blue also star.

Wonder Twins Activate 'Smallville' In Time For November Sweeps

24 October 2009 11:07 PM, PDT | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

Fox might be shaking up its Friday schedule in time for November sweeps (meaning we won't be seeing any "Dollhouse" again until December), but not The CW. In fact, the network seems rather committed to keeping "Smallville" as a lead-in to reruns on Friday night that has contributed to a significant audience drop from its surprisingly strong numbers from last year. And "Smallville" hasn't forgotten it's November, at least from some possibly spoiler-filled showlines coming from The CW. On Oct. 30, Elise Gatien make a guest spot in the episode "Crossfire" as Speedy, a character Oliver (Justin Hartley) takes under his wing. Then on Nov. 6, Jor-El, played by Julian Sands, mysteriously arrives at the Kent farm searching for his son, Kal-El. You know, Tom Welling's Clark Kent. That ... »

'Smallville' Details, 'Astro Boy' Art And 'The Vampire's Assistant' In Today's Twitter Report

Geoff Johns opened up with some episode titles and director info for his two-part "Smallville" story that's coming up, and Tom Welling will direct the second part, titled "Legends," according to those tweets. Johns said he has the utmost confidence that Hawkman, Dr. Fate and Stargirl will be treated with respect.

Todd Nauck, meanwhile, showed some tweet respect to Johns, dedicating a Slurpee pic to him. You can find that, along with Chip Zdarsky's Astro Boy artwork, Edgar Wright's evaluation of "The Vampire's Assistant" and Mark Waid's post from Singapore.

They're all waiting after the jump in the Friday Twitter Report for October 23, 2009.

"Smallville" pt 1: @GeoffJohns0 Yes, my "Society" episode of Smallville is actually an insane Dcu infused two-part epic. Part I is "Society" and Part II is "Legends."

Hawkman, Stargirl and Dr. Fate Coming To Smallville

20 October 2009 1:32 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

With Geoff Johns (The Flash) scripting an episode Smallville, folks are in anticipation of which characters from the Justice Society would actually show up.

The recent news breaking on the street is that Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Stargirl will be showing up.  So we can now add these three to the other cast of heroes that will be gracing the episodes of Smallville, such as Green Arrow’s sidekick, Speedy (Appearing October 23rd) and the Wonder Twins.

What has me worried. though, is who is reportedly playing Hawkman.  Michael Shanks (Stargate Sg-1) is slated to appear as Hawkman.  I’m happy to see Michael getting work, but I’m worried - as in career move worried.  Is this the best direction Michael can go?  I’ve been hoping for bigger, better roles from him since his time on Stargate.  But that’s just me.

Brent Stait will be playing Doctor »
