This may have been an hour devoid of Jensen Ackles (boo!), but the Shaw Family drama was creeping in the background of Tracker Season 1 Episode 13, as Colter headed back to a place his family used to frequent to help an old friend.
Said friend had a lot of interesting information for Colter and the audience to ponder over now that the first season of the CBS hit has come to a close.
There was much to enjoy about Tracker Season 1, as the Justin Hartley-led action drama lived up to the hype and became a bonafide hit with viewers who enjoyed the complex cases of the week and Hartley's appeal.
Was it perfect? Absolutely not.
But that's a discussion for another day and perhaps another article where we break down the season in a much larger context.
For now, let's concentrate on the finale, which saw...

For Henry Lloyd-Hughes, shooting the scenes of “We Were the Lucky Ones” that take place in a Soviet gulag in Siberia were taxing to shoot but in “the right way” due to how it was shot. “All of those scenes, by and large, were shot chronologically, which meant that there was an intensity to that period of work for me that was physically challenging and mentally grueling, but in a way that I think was right for what we were trying to get across,” he describes to Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). Those scenes also got a surprise boost from the weather in Romania in the form of an unexpected snowstorm. “They had set aside these cannons, like these hoses of snow to try and cover it to make it look like Siberia. Even with all the preparation that Joey King did for “We Were the Lucky Ones,” nothing could have prepared her for meeting the descendants of the Kurc family. Anna, the daughter of King’s character, showed up on set while filming was happening in Malaga, Spain. “It was this very emotional, beautiful moment. The first thing she said to me when she me, she outstretched her arms and she looked at me and she said, ‘Mama,’” she reveals to Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). The gesture brought tears to King’s eyes. “She had not met me yet, hasn’t seen any of the work I’ve done to portray her mother yet, yet is here giving me this warm embrace and confidence that says, ‘Yes, you are playing my mother and I’m so excited.’ It just felt like a real big green light for me.

Hulu’s “We Were the Lucky Ones,” based on the book by Georgia Hunter, tells the true story of the Kurcs, a Jewish family who lived in Poland at the onset of World War II. The series follows the Kurcs as the events of the war and the Holocaust separate parents and children, tearing families apart.
As casting director Fiona Weir read the script for the first episode, showrunner Erica Lipez stressed that despite the grim setting, it ultimately was a celebratory story — and it was important she get the family dynamics right.
Speaking with Variety, Weir says Hunter, who based the book on her family experiences, turned out to be her most valuable source. “These were real people that she either knew or discovered, so there was lots to talk about in who these people were. Georgia Hunter is still in disbelief that her family’s story of surviving the Holocaust has been adapted into the Hulu limited series “We Were the Lucky Ones” headlined by Logan Lerman and Joey King. Based on Hunter’s novel of the same name, the show stars Lerman as her grandfather, Addy, and King as his little sister Halina, two of five Polish siblings trying to stay alive and bring their family back together during World War II.
“It’s surreal,” Hunter said at the March 21 premiere of the show, held at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. “It’s really wonderful. We’ve been editing and watching it on small screens, so to see it up here with this incredible group of people, with all of you, I feel pretty good.”
On the red carpet, Lerman spoke to Variety about the significance of sharing “We Were the Lucky Ones” with the world.

“We Were the Lucky Ones” has its warning built into the title. The Hulu series based on the book by Georgia Hunter and adapted by Erica Lipez is about how one family survived and separated during the Holocaust, all of it underscored by that title — this is what they went through, the horror they witnessed and endured, the sadness that befell them, and they were lucky.
The series kicks off in Radom, Poland before the War, with the Kurc family: Siblings Halina (Joey King), Addy (Logan Lerman), Genek (Henry Lloyd-Hughes), Jakob (Amit Rahav), and Mila (Hadas Yaron) — and their parents, Sol (Lior Ashkenazi) and Nechuma (Robin Weigert). The Kurcs are close-knit, their home echoing with overlapping voices and laughter at the holidays, and they already feel the pangs of missing Addy, who lives in Paris.

There has been no shortage of television series centering the horrors of the Holocaust. Last year alone, Netflix’s “Transatlantic” depicted a group of resistors living in Marseille, and National Geographic’s “A Small Light” offered a retelling of Anne Frank’s experience through the eyes of Miep Gies, the woman who aided the Franks during their years in hiding. Though both of these series and those like them are important, Hulu’s “We Were the Lucky Ones,” an adaptation of Georgia Hunter’s best-selling novel based on a true story, showcases something different. The show chronicles a family torn apart by war and hatred. Devastating, and profoundly moving, “We Were the Lucky Ones” illustrates the scope of World War II, the inhumanity of others and the anguish of disconnection and loss.

Based on the novel by Georgia Hunter — which in turn was inspired by the actual history of her ancestors — the miniseries traces the far-flung journeys of the Kurcs, a Polish Jewish family, throughout World War II. That their paths will be harrowing is not in doubt; a sobering opening caption reminds us that “By the end of the Holocaust, 90% of Poland’s three million Jews were annihilated.”
Yet an exercise in misery this isn’t. No matter how devastating these stories get, what binds all of them together is a sense of hope — stubborn, hard-won, fainter at certain times than others but always undeniably there. So overwhelming is...

On March 21, 2004, HBO introduced audiences to the frontier outpost of Deadwood, where the Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane series ran for three seasons. Fifteen years after its premiere it was revived as a standalone movie on the premium cabler. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review of season one is below:
David Milch, executive producer of NYPD Blue and, before that, Hill Street Blues, has spent years looking at society from the perspective of those who enforce its laws and impose order. His new series, Deadwood, imagines a world without law, a world ruled only by the conscience of individuals, many of whom have none. The result is a Western unlike most others. It is brutal, passionate, heroic, tragic, blanketed by coarseness and always fascinating, though some times morbidly so.
Although it would be just as solid a drama if it were cut from whole cloth, Deadwood is deeply rooted in historical reality.

This impeccably performed, engaging take on Kramer vs Kramer delivers a subtly shaded portrait of current gay lifestyles
This poignant drama is practically a remake of Kramer vs Kramer from 1979 – though this time with two divorcing New York-based dads fighting for custody of their kid instead of K2’s traditional pairing of a husband and wife. And like the older Dustin Hoffman-Meryl Streep vehicle, Our Son is a bit soapy and middlebrow, but impeccably performed all-round, led by a trio of terrific turns from Luke Evans and Billy Porter as the two fathers, with winning, winsome support from Christopher Woodley as Owen, their eight-year-old son.
The script, co-written by Peter Nickowitz and director Bill Oliver, delivers an acute, subtly shaded group portrait of current gay lifestyles, from married-with-children types like Nicky (Evans) and Gabriel (Porter), who are monogamous until Gabriel strays without pre-agreement into another’s man’s arms,...

Bradley Stryker and Justin Hartley in ‘Tracker’ episode 3
Colter (Justin Hartley) heads to the sleepy little town of Springland on the way to a job as CBS’s Tracker episode three gets underway. After a brief check-in with Velma (Abby McEnany), Teddi (Robin Weigert), and their adorable Corgi about his next job locating a vintage Shelby Cobra, Colter pops into a restaurant for a quick bite.
There’s a bit of a ruckus in the restaurant when diners spot a woman leaving flyers on the cars in the parking lot. A waitress warns him not to get involved, but of course, Colter doesn’t listen. He steps in as a male diner confronts the woman, and the angry dude decides a verbal warning isn’t enough. He pulls out a knife and slits Colter’s front tire.
The man’s friends arrive to back him up, and he mistakenly believes that Colter will stop interfering.

CBS’s Tracker premiered after the Super Bowl, a time slot that usually benefits from having the Big Game as a lead-in. Unfortunately, this year’s Super Bowl went into overtime, which meant episode one was delayed on the East Coast until 11pm. After the ratings were revealed, it turned out the late start did not affect viewership, with the series premiere bringing in 18.4 million viewers. That makes Tracker the most-watched primetime entertainment program after the Super Bowl since 2021’s debut of The Equalizer.
Episode two, “Missoula,” settles into the series’ regular time slot, airing on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt. Justin Hartley leads the cast as Colter Shaw, Fiona Rene plays Reenie Green, and Robin Weigert is Teddi. Abby McEnany stars as Velma and Eric Graise is Bobby Exley.
“Missoula” Plot: Colter tracks down a missing young man who has been pulled into a deadly cult and doesn’t want to be found.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Tracker series premiere “Klamath Falls.”] “You’re going to survive.” Those are the first words we hear from Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), a lone-wolf reward seeker who goes around helping solve mysteries, including finding missing people, in the Tracker series premiere (which scored the post-Super Bowl slot). And sure, he cares about finding these people and doesn’t collect his fee until the job is a success, but he does make sure to get that reward. His first investigation, courtesy of his handlers Velma (Abby McEnany) and Teddi (Robin Weigert), a couple who may or may not have too many dogs (depending who you ask): 14-year-old Gil, whose mother thinks he ran off with his birth father (who has a past with drugs). But as Colter sees on a surveillance camera from a local burger joint, the man who took him isn’t his father. He sends the footage to tech genius ...
