Whenever Robert Downey Jr comes up in a conversation, we often think of his iconic portrayal of Tony Stark/ Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that had made the superhero franchise a multibillion-dollar franchise. Rdj is no doubt a charismatic and phenomenal actor, whose career has spanned four decades. During this period, the actor has done a plethora of films such as Sherlock Holmes, Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man, Oppenheimer, and many more which have set a major record in the box office.
Robert Downey Jr. as Admiral Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer
There’s no doubt that Robert Downey Jr is one of the most successful and one of the most decorated film stars that this generation has witnessed. However, even the biggest of stars have made wrong decisions in their career that leave a black spot, that couldn’t get rid of. Downey Jr was no exception, as in his career,...

Before there were horror movies, there were legends. Passed down through oral tradition, our earliest ancestors created colorful fables of vengeful gods, malevolent witches, and ravenous beasts lurking in the darkest corners of the night. Often told to entertain, these spooky tales also included hidden warnings about the dangers of straying from the path, disobeying one’s parents, or breaking social norms. As the years have passed between then and now, so have the stories. Horrific tales of poisoned apples have become whispered warnings to check Halloween candy for razor blades. Trolls lurking in the woods have transformed into a hook-handed murderer haunting lover’s lane.
Contemporary legends are more likely to be shared in an email forward than around the campfire, but their functions remain the same. These tales exist to help us navigate an unpredictable world and their subjects have evolved alongside our cultural fears. We’ve also updated our methods of delivery,...

For many film buffs, the classic Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street is their go-to holiday film. Subsequently, the movie depicts the best and worst of humanity and is essential viewing during the Christmas season. Altogether, the original film has spawned four remakes. However, they’ve all stayed true to the original script.
‘Miracle on 34th Street’ (1947)
The film’s original plot follows Doris Walker (Maureen O’Hara), a worker at Macy’s Department Store in New York City. However, Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) realizes the man who will play Santa Claus is drunk. Later, he tells Doris, and she hires Kris to be the Macy’s store Santa Claus.
Her divorce disillusions Doris and her daughter Susan (Natalie Wood). However, their neighbor, lawyer Fred Gaily (John Payne), is surprised Susan doesn’t believe in Santa Claus.
When Susan meets Kris, she believes he’s Santa Claus. Fred believes Kris and clashes with Doris.

A new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has just been released, and in this one we’re looking back at the slasher Urban Legend (watch it Here), which – I am disturbed to say, as someone who saw it on the big screen back in the day – is already celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To find out all about this movie, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Jamie Blanks from a screenplay by Silvio Horta, Urban Legend has the following synopsis: A university is beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles...

An interesting piece of trivia: Peter Deming, the cinematographer on David Lynch's "Lost Highway," shot Lynch's film, "Scream 2," and "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" all in the same year. Immediately prior to "Lost Highway," he shot the cockroach comedy "Joe's Apartment." The man is nothing if not diverse.
"Lost Highway" is an oblique nightmare that swirls haphazardly around themes of identity and sexual insecurity. Its main character -- who may be two main characters -- is lost in a shadowy noir world of demonic cameramen, underground porn, creepy faceless stalkers, and life-threatening gangsters. Lynch's films are typically surreal and oblique, but can often contain a great deal of humanity and recognizable facets of warmth. One might think of Sailor and Lula from "Wild at Heart," or some of the more subtly funny moments in "Eraserhead".
"Lost Highway," however, may be Lynch's coldest film. It's filmed largely in inky shadows and sterile,...

Natalie Wood was the former child actress who racked up three Oscar nominations before she was 25, Wood’s life ended in a tragedy that often overshadows her movie career. Yet many of her titles remain classics, so let’s take a look back at 15 of her greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1938 in San Francisco, Wood snagged her first starring role when she was just nine years old in the holiday classic “Miracle on 34th Street” (1947), playing a precocious girl who tugs on Santa Claus’ beard. She earned her first Oscar nomination when she was 17 for the juvenile delinquent drama “Rebel Without a Cause” (Best Supporting Actress in 1955), which made an icon out of James Dean, who died before its release. Wood added two more Best Actress bids to her resume with the romantic melodramas “Splendor in the Grass” (1961) and “Love with the Proper Stranger” (1963).

Hello, everyone! This week’s Blu-ray and DVD offerings are quite an eclectic bunch, as we have a few recent titles coming out on Tuesday, but we also have a few classic horrors from Mexico finally getting a release, which is pretty darned cool. In terms of the newer horrors, Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece Nightmare Alley is heading home to various formats, and if you missed it when it was airing, now you can finally catch up on the Dexter: New Blood revival this week as well. As mentioned, Indicator is showing some love to two classic horror movies from Mexico—La Llorona and The Phantom of the Monastery—on Blu-ray this week, and Richard Elfman’s Modern Vampires is getting the HD treatment, too.
Other home media titles coming home on March 22nd include 6:45, Blood Claws, Grave of the Living Dead, Bryan Loves You: Collector’s Edition,...

In a memoir being released on Tuesday called “Little Sister,” Lana Wood, Natalie Wood’s sister, writes that Kirk Douglas sexually assaulted Natalie when she was a teenager, according to a report in the Associated Press. The alleged assault took place in 1955 after Lana and their mother, Maria Zakharenko, dropped Natalie off at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles to meet with Douglas.
Kirk Douglas died in February 2020 at age 103.
His son Michael did not respond to Variety’s request for comment. But to the AP, Michael Douglas’ publicist issued a statement: “May they both rest in peace.”
Variety has not yet obtained a copy of “Little Sister.”
Quoting from the memoir, the AP wrote that Natalie said to Lana, “And, uh … he hurt me Lana.” Lana writes in “Little Sister” that the situation ” was like an out-of-body experience. I was terrified, I was confused.” According to the book, their...

The individual sitting across from me was a veteran filmmaker who was tormented by a tough decision. “The story I want to tell should be made as a doc, not a feature film,” he told me. “But let’s get real: Movies occupy center stage while documentaries sit in the balcony.”
He ended up shooting a feature (more on that later), but in today’s Hollywood, he would have reached the opposite conclusion. That’s because documentaries at the moment are stealing both the audiences and the conversation, and, along the way, acquiring some of the bad habits of the fiction film business — fights over budgets, credits and release dates.
This week, viewers will check out new docs about the future career path facing Michelle Obama, or the mysterious death of Natalie Wood, or the dauntless ambitions of Michael Jordan, or the perils of undercover probes (The Infiltrators). Or they...

“We just wanted to do her justice, to do her legacy justice,” declares Natasha Gregson Wagner about a new documentary about her mother, the legendary actress Natalie Wood. Gregson Wagner teamed with director Laurent Bouzereau for the film “Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is now airing on HBO. In our exclusive video interview (watch above), Gregson Wagner explains her goal with the documentary: “I started to feel a real responsibility to make sure that legacy is focused on the right elements. And a lot of the misinformation that’s out there, I wanted to clarify.”
For Bouzereau, the film allowed him to see Wood’s career in a different light. “I only knew Natalie Wood through her movies,” the director says. “What emerged for me was an autobiographical actor, someone who actually chose movies very carefully because they spoke to her. Either...

Natasha Gregson Wagner says a poignant thing about her movie star mother, and her all-too tragic death, at the beginning of Laurent Bouzereau’s Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind. “Since then there’s been so much speculation on how she died that it’s overshadowed her life’s work and who she was as a person.” It’s a brief but sudden flash into the perspective of living with a lifelong media whirlwind of speculation and insinuation. It also is clearly Gregson Wagner’s pained personal truth.
Yet what’s both interesting and ultimately frustrating about Bouzereau’s new documentary, which just premiered on HBO, is that it seems to immediately concede this point by framing its narrative as being more concerned with how she died—and how that death has been manipulated by the press—than with how she lived. And as someone who grew up on Natalie Wood’s movies and total legacy,...

Since Natalie Wood’s untimely death in 1981, theories have swirled around what happened and if anyone could’ve been responsible for her drowning. Now, her daughter, Natasha Gregson Wagner, decided to take control of the narrative around her mother’s death in Laurent Bouzereau’s new documentary, “Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind.”
“In 2012, I became a mom, so it started to become very important to me that I take a little bit of a hold of the narrative and diffuse some of the noise and shine a light on all of the amazing qualities about my mom that not everybody knows,” Wagner told TheWrap’s Beatrice Verhoeven at the Sundance Film Festival, where the film premiered.
Bouzereau says he was approached by Wagner to do a documentary about her mother, and he was astounded at how much material there was to work with.

This week HBO takes us on a journey down the star-studded history of Hollywood. No, we’re not talking about the fact and fiction mix of Ryan Murphy’s new streaming miniseries. It’s a look at one particular star, but it’s not a “bio-pic” similar to last year’s big award winners Rocketman and Judy, though it owes a bit to the latter. No mimics or makeup are involved here since it’s a documentary chocked full of feature film clips, archival interviews and little-seen family home movies and photos. She began as a child star, but her career blossomed as she matured, so it’s not the old “rags to riches back to rags” melodrama. But her story ends far too early in tragedy. We don’t see her on lots of merchandise, nor any campy imitators even though she starred in several iconic cinema classics. Unfortunately,...

In a new documentary, Natasha Gregson Wagner confronts speculation over her mother’s drowning death head on, but honors her life and career first
Natasha Gregson Wagner was 11 years old when her mother, the actor Natalie Wood, drowned off Catalina Island on Thanksgiving weekend, 1981. Wagner’s recollection of hearing the news of her mother’s death that rainy morning is the first scene of Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind, a HBO documentary reflecting on Wood’s storied life and career. Wood’s death at 43 was a public spectacle – a vibrant, famous life cut short, compounded by mysterious circumstances ripe for speculation: a night-time drowning, no witnesses.

If the last month has proven anything when it comes to the world of film, we can only expect the unexpected when it comes to shifting release dates, roll-outs, and platforms. This means it is a bit futile to publish our yearly summer preview when the release calendar seems to change day-by-day, however, we’ll still be delivering our monthly previews.
The month of May doesn’t look like the usual one as there are no summer blockbusters on the slate, but there are plenty of notable options to watch, from controversial festival favorites to powerful documentaries. As a special mention, before its official release later this year via Music Box Films, Mubi will be holding a one-day-only, free special preview of Pablo Larraín’s Ema this Friday, May 1, and one can see our review here.

"I don't think there's a day that has ever gone by that I haven't thought about Natalie." HBO has debuted an official trailer for a feature documentary titled Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind, the latest film from veteran cinema history producer / filmmaker Laurent Bouzereau. The film explores famed actress Natalie Wood's life and career through the unique perspective of her daughter, Natasha Gregson Wagner, and others who knew her best. It originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. They wrote that the film, "lets those closest to her tell an intimate story of the Natalie Wood they knew. Besides discussing the night she died and its terrible aftermath, those who knew her best share what made her not just a remarkable actor but also a friend, wife, and mother, whose loss is lessened in impact only by her loving memory." While the mysteries surrounding Natalie Wood’s death nearly forty years ago remain unsolved, a new documentary that premiered at Sundance shines a spotlight on her vibrant life rather than the many rumors and theories that have dominated headlines. Perhaps not totally dissimilar to the way Quentin Tarantino gave us a glimpse into the spirit of Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, director Laurent Bouzereau looks to be doing the same for Wood. Featuring her daughter Natasha Gregson Wagner as well as previously unseen home movies, photographs, diaries, and letters, it’ll now arrive on HBO this May and the trailer has arrived.

Zipping by at a manageable 100 minutes, established producer and documentarian Laurent Bouzereau pays proper tribute to Natalie Wood, the movie star who perished at the young age of 43 in a boat accident off the coast of California.
There will be no grand revelations here, no shocking moments. Guided through her mother’s impressive life by daughter Natasha Gregson Wagner, the documentary focuses primarily on the good that Wood left behind. Famous as a child, Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko had her name changed to “Natalie Wood” by producer William Goetz in honor of director Sam Wood. You may remember the young starlet as the girl in Miracle on 34th Street.

If you’re a Natalie Wood fan, there is so much to appreciate about her — her flashing eyes, the no-nonsense immediacy of her acting. But if you ask what made her special, I think it had something to do with how she fused sensuality with a kind of sun-dazed warmth. It’s tempting to compare her to Donna Reed or Doris Day: middle-class beauties who enveloped you in their wholesomeness. Yet I also think of Natalie Wood the way I think of Elizabeth Taylor or Ann-Margret — as someone who could set a scene on fire.
I first discovered her, when I was eight years old, in a late-’60s trifle called “Penelope,” in which she played a kleptomaniac who kept changing costumes and identities. I was too young to realize that the movie was a goofy piece of late-studio-system whimsical trash, but I was so captivated by Wood that...

Scream Factory's has just released Urban Legend and Urban Legends: Final Cut, the first two films in the francicse. They're both out now, and both given nice releases with plenty of extras. Both films look good, but you may drive yourself a bit crazy riding the volume button due to quiet dialogue cut with loud jump scares. More on that later. The ensemble cast of Alicia Witt, Michael Rosenbaum, Natasha Gregson Wagner, Robert Englund, Loretta Devine, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, and Danielle Harris. Witt, who does her best here, stars as Natalie,...

Drama has followed West Side Story star Natalie Wood's daughter Courtney Wagner since Natalie's death in 1981. And the tumult shows no signs of stopping now that Natalie's husband and Courtney's father, Austin Powers actor Robert Wagner, has been named a person of interest in the tragedy. Courtney is the only biological child of the two Hollywood stars, but she hasn't spoken out about the investigation into her father. In 2012, Courtney told FOX411 about the aftermath of that fateful night. "I remember waking up to my sister [Natasha Gregson Wagner, Natalie's daughter with Richard Gregson] screaming, and luckily I had a nanny that I was very close to that was by my side," she said. "There were all these people in the living room, and my dad told me I wasn't going to see my mom again. I was just trying to make sense of it, and Dad was asking...

Nearly 40 years after the tragic loss of Hollywood actress Natalie Wood, new witnesses in her 1981 drowning have emerged prompting Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators to deem her cause of death “suspicious.”
The news — which was reported by CNN, and the Associated Press — comes hours after CBS News released a clip from an upcoming 48 Hours special where Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant John Corina — when asked if Wood’s widower Robert Wagner, 87, is considered a suspect — responded by saying he is now considered “more of a person of interest” in the case.

Nearly 40 years after Natalie Wood died under mysterious circumstances, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators say her widower Robert Wagner is “more of a person of interest” in the case.
The Hollywood star was married to Wagner from 1972 until her death.
Though Wagner has largely remained tight-lipped about Wood’s death, he’s opened up in recent years about his family’s heartbreak.
“We were all so shattered by the loss, and we were hanging on to each other,” Wagner told People in 2016 for a cover story on her passing. “You just take it moment by moment and hope that it gets better.

The circumstances surrounding the death of Natalie Wood on Nov. 29, 1981, while sailing off of Catalina Island outside Los Angeles, have become the stuff of Hollywood legend and mystery.

For many years after the death of her mother in 1981, Natalie Wood’s daughter Natasha Gregson Wagner says Mother’s Day “was a sad and difficult day.”
“For the first 20 years, Mother’s Day was really hard,” says Gregson Wagner, who was 11 when her mom died in a boating accident off California’s Catalina Island. “And then they got easier after my daughter Clover was born.”
For Gregson Wagner, who launched the fragrance line Natalie last year in honor of her mother, it wasn’t until she became a mom herself to her daughter, now 4, that the day became joyful again.
