Pirates Of The Caribbean filmmaker Gore Verbinski is set to direct the silver screen adaptation of the hit video game Bioshock, according to reports.
Universal Studios has signed a deal with the game's publisher, Take-Two Interactive - believed to be the biggest video game-to-cinema contract since Fox and Universal's 2005 negotiations with Microsoft for the now-aborted Halo movie, reports Variety.
BioShock, set in a nearly-deserted underwater city, has sold more than 2 million units worldwide.

Here it is - the jackpot news of the month! Last month I did one thing besides work on the site and that was play a lil game by the name of Bioshock. It is by far the Best video game I have ever played in my life and had often questioned why it hadn't already been announced as a feature film. Well, apparently Universal Pictures had the same thought as they've attached the great Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean) to direct the feature film adaptation! Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski will produce and direct a film version of last year's hit video game BioShock.
John Logan (The Aviator, Sweeney Todd) is in talks to write the screenplay.
Publisher Take-Two signed a lucrative advance deal with studio Universal to hand over the film rights. Take-Two structured a "state of the art" agreement to ensure the BioShock film doesn't suffer the same fate as the aborted Halo project.
