Bob Greenblatt is partnering with “The West Wing” star Allison Janney and writer Alexa Junge (“Grace and Frankie”) to adapt the book “Confident Women” into an anthology series for Amazon Prime Video.
The project reps the first TV project for Janney, who is attached as a non-writing executive producer alongside her producing partner, Thruline’s Chris Henze. Janney and Henze brought the idea to Greenblatt, the former NBC, Showtime, WarnerMedia and Fox exec who has been busy as of late in amassing a new stable of projects in development.
Written by Tori Telfer and released last year, the book chronicles female con women in a range of different stories over the last several decades.
“I think it’s a really cool way to tell some female-oriented stories, but with a bit of a darker twist,” Greenblatt told Variety. “It’s not ‘Dahmer.’ It’s not about serial killers. But these...

Jesse Armstrong had a great year. The “Succession” showrunner saw the third season of his HBO show air to continued acclaim, and it was renewed for a fourth season. And after the success of “I May Destroy You,” Armstrong’s Various Artists Ltd. — which produced the Michaela Coel miniseries — doubled its profits, according to a year-end report filed by the company.
The report, filed by Various Artists earlier this month with the U.K. government, shows the company more than doubled its post-tax profit for the fiscal year ending in March. It reported a profit of £2.6 million, compared to £1.2 million the prior year. The document singles out the success of “I May Destroy You” as a key performance indicator for the company founded in 2017.
“In particular, ‘I May Destroy You’ was one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed television shows in living memory, winning awards including 5 BAFTAs, 3 Rts awards and 2 Emmys.

Michaela Coel is one of six creative leaders in comedy honored for Variety‘s 2021 Power of Women. For more, click here.
If viewers think they know Michaela Coel personally after watching “I May Destroy You,” she understands why.
“Even though it’s fictional, there’s something very transparent about the show,” Coel tells Variety. “I know a lot of people will say, ‘You think you know me, but you have no idea.’ And I feel like, ‘No. You probably do have a pretty good idea.’”
This rings true, even over Zoom, where Coel is as profoundly introspective and pointedly funny as she is on the HBO series that she created, wrote, co-directed and stars in. The show’s delicate balance of tone matches its creator’s personality, as it investigates sexual assault and consent, society’s relationship to social media and the complexities of overcoming trauma while still finding ways to make audiences laugh.

I May Destroy You was one of the most critically-acclaimed and most-talked about television shows of 2020, despite what the Golden Globes say.
However, Michaela Coel has always said that the 12-episode series, which is a co-production between HBO and the BBC, was intended as a one-off. “When you see the final episode, you’ll know,” she said last year.
That said, HBO would like to remain in business with the Chewing Gum creator, who also runs her own Falkna Productions, for whatever she is planning next.
“She is noodling ideas and I hope anything she comes up with, we would be able to participate in,” Casey Bloys, chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max told Deadline.
Coel herself told the Obsessed With… podcast that she did have an idea for another series. “It is in the back of my mind,” she said. “And I keep telling this idea to...

HBO has released the official trailer for “I May Destroy You,” its hotly-anticipated topical new TV series from Michaela Coel, the BAFTA-winning creator of “Chewing Gum.” Coel executive produces, writes, co-directs and stars in the series, which the network promises will be bold and candid, exploring the question of sexual consent in the present day given how much the landscape of dating and relationships has changed. And given Coel’s previous work, as well as the look of the trailer, it likely will be provocative.
HBO is certainly no stranger to envelope-pushing series. And “I May Destroy You” will likely fit in perfectly on the network that Zendaya’s “Euphoria” — or any number of its hard-hitting documentaries — call home.
Previously titled “January 22nd,” the official synopsis for “I May Destroy You” reads: “Set in London, where gratification is only an app away, the story centers on Arabella (Coel), a carefree,...

The returning Channel 4 comedy will follow Jp (Jack Whitehall), Howard (Greg McHugh), Vod (Zawe Ashton), Oregon (Charlotte Ritchie) and Kingsley (Joe Thomas) as they begin their second university term.
Josie (Kimberley Nixon) is in Southampton, away from her old housemates but in contact via iPad, when the new eight-part series opens.
In her place comes a new housemate - fresher Candice, who catches Jp's eye - while Vod also returns from her travels with a "new Mexican beefcake lover" named Javier.
Objective Productions' Head of Drama and co-exec producer Judy Counihan said: "Our fabulous gang of six returns to navigate their second year; no longer freshers, but eager as ever to experience uni life to the full and beyond – and there's an unsuspecting newbie to educate, too."

Season 5 of "Misfits" will be the British show's last, according to creator Howard Overman, producers Clerkenwell Films and UK broadcaster E4.
The final season, comprised of eight hourlong episodes, is set for a fall 2013 premiere in the UK. Hulu and Hulu Plus have the Us rights to the series, and last season, episodes debuted shortly after their airings across the pond.
Murray Ferguson, Chief Executive of Clerkenwell Films, said in a statement: “Misfits was a bold and confident commission that backed original ideas and new talent, quickly becoming a hit with its audience on E4 and around the world. It's been great to produce a show that has been able to innovate on screen and online, and that broke new ground premiering with huge success on Hulu in America. Misfits has been an exciting and rewarding ride for us all and we now look forward to ending the show with a bang!

E4 has confirmed that Misfits will end after the soon-to-be-filmed series five, which is due on air in autumn 2013...
After five series, the launch of numerous careers in front of and behind the camera, and an identity so strong we'll still be talking about it long after DVD box-sets have been replaced by cerebro-retinal implants, E4's Misfits deserves a Viking funeral more than it does talk of having been "axed". Leaving that legacy behind is no mean feat, so it's with a sad, respectful salute that we report the show is due to end after the soon-to-be-filmed fifth series.
Eight new episodes of the final series will be on air this autumn, starring the renewed cast of Joseph Gilgun, Karla Crome, Nathan McMullen, Matt Stokoe and Natasha O'Keeffe. According to E4 commissioning editor Roberto Troni, "Howard and co have some Big plans for the last series,...
