When he first started his music career, he used his birth name Randy
Traywick before changing his stage name to Randy Ray and then later
became Randy Travis, in honor of his musical idol, Merle Travis.
Had a stroke in 2010.
He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on September 29, 2004.
His father, Harold Traywick, was banned from the Country City USA nightclub due to his objections to Randy's relationship with Elizabeth Hatcher-Travis, who later became Randy's wife. They divorced in 2010.
