- Hallvar Thoresen was born on April 12, 1957 in Larvik, Norway. He is an actor, known for Victory (1981), Vremya (1968) and Gylne tider (2002).
- Was on holiday at Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand, when it was hit by the massive tsunami on December 26th, 2004. He was relaxing on the beach together with his wife, their two daughters, and a family of friends when they saw the massive wall of water closing in on the beach. They all ran for their lives and escaped fairly unharmed, except for the mother of the other family, who was killed by the waves. He commented to Norwegian newspaper VG: "We saw many people getting caught by the enormous wave. It was a terrible experience."
- Norwegian international football (soccer) player. Played for FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch league, winning the Dutch championship in 1986, 1987 and 1988. Son of Norwegian footballer Gunnar Thoresen.
- One of Norway's best soccer-players through all times, he was capped 50 times for Norway's national team and was the team-captain of the popular Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.
