Movies like the film in question are pretty critic proof. What my review is for anyone over the age of ten is more of a survival guide even though I’m approaching it like I do every film. Kids are going to want to see it and most parents aren’t going to bring them to the latest action spectacle. It’s bigger than the first film, certainly throws in as many historical references as it can, and has two monkeys join in on slapping Ben Stiller around as opposed to just one. Night at the Museum: Part Deux is a family film through and through, and doesn’t care if the parents in the audience will know it.
For those parents, brothers, sisters, and whoever that will be dragged into this, you have someone you can enjoy who gets a fair amount of screen time. This woman (along »

Dreamworks Animation announced today that Leonardo DiCaprio has joined his first animated feature film, their upcoming release The Guardians. This is not to be confused with the Zack Snyder directed Warner Bros. release The Guardians of Ga'Hoole, as DiCaprio will be voicing Jack Frost. And Jack Frost is clearly not an owl. Directed by Peter Ramsey (a story artist who has worked on Shrek the Third, Fight Club and other fine films), The Guardians tells the story of a group of holiday heroes -- Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost -- who band together to take on an evil spirit called Pitch, who dares to take over the world by inspiring fear into the hearts of its children. The film will show that these "Guardians" are more than just holiday icons, all possessing special powers that will come in handy against this new form of evil. It's »

From Splash Page: Back in March, comedian Patton Oswalt had some fantastically expletive-filled words for "Watchmen" haters, those frothing fanboys and armchair critics who began to trash the movie before they'd even seen Zack Snyder's big screen adaptation of the Holy Bible of graphic novel geekery.
As the year in movies comes to a close and awards season ramps up, we caught up with Oswalt on the red carpet at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York. We wanted to know if, almost nine months later, the actor and sometime comic book writer had any more thoughts about one of the biggest comic adaptations of the year.
You better believe he did.

What Oswalt had to say was so spot-on about everything that's incredibly frustrating in the comics community and so darn funny, we really couldn't add anything else. So Patton, take it away...

While we were throttled down for the Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S., bunches of news was hitting the wire about director Sylvain's White's upcoming adaptation of "The Losers."
Along with a pair of new photos that debuted on Omelete featuring much of the film's the all-star cast and a solo shot of "Star Trek" and "Avatar" actress Zoe Saldana as the team's resident loose cannon, Aisha, the online world also received some thoughts about the film from one of its most prominent stars, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, courtesy of a FilmInk interview.
"I've been hurt since Day One," said Morgan of the bruising (literally) experience of playing Clay, the leader of the left-for-dead special ops team out to find the agent who wronged them. "I'm getting a little old for bouncing off the pavement. Some stuff is hard when you're forty — but there's nothing that I can't recover from. »

Seeing as it’s Thanksgiving and all, it’s only right that we look back over 2009 and pick out a few movies that we’re thankful for. Ya know, films that moved us, shook us or opened up our minds to new, creative, original ideas. The sort of movies you’ll watch again, or tell your friends to watch, or maybe even store away in an attic so that you can bring it out and share it with your children down the line. While you think about which films you’re thankful for this year, here are five I’m thankful for. Watchmen Though it was a tad too long for some, and not all that entertaining for others, I’m just thankful that Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. had the balls to actually make a live-action Watchmen movie, let alone one that was...

Fans at next year’s San Diego Comic-Con International may get the first opportunity to see what Guy Ritchie’s big screen adaptation of “Lobo” will look like. Producer Joel Silver has revealed that a “Lobo” test was recently filmed with the annual pop culture event in mind.
“We’re working on ‘Lobo’ now,” said Silver during an interview with Collider. “I was looking at a test we made and I was seeing it through the eyes of [the San Diego] Comic-Con — through the eyes of that audience. It’s important to know that that audience is the biggest in the world. That’s the audience that you want to get.”
Back in September, Jeffery Dean Morgan — perhaps best known to comic fans as The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s adaptation of “Watchmen” — stated that he wants to portray Lobo while on the set of his most recent film, “The Losers.” However, Morgan »

The Crazies is a little seen 1973 horror film by George A. Romero. The plot revolves around a city under siege from infected, murdering psychopaths – and the army – who are sent in to clear up the mess. It has proved hugely influential since. Screenwriter and novelist Alex Garland essentially amalgamated Romero’s landmark flick, Night of the Living Dead with The Crazies. The result being: 28 Days Later. Flash-forward to 2009 and The Crazies has been remade by Hollywood filmmaker Breck Eisner into a mega-budget action-horror.
Whilst the original Romero flick can be seen as a holy relic of exploitation cinema, it is by no means, perfect. Its low budget overcome by the strength of the premise. In 2004, Zack Snyder directed a pretty decent adaptation of Romero’s masterpiece Dawn of the Dead, so it was only a matter of time before studios rummaged further into his back catalogue.

Zack Snyder is a busy director these days, working on both the fantasy-action movie Sucker Punch and the 3-D animated Guardians of Ga'Hoole, based on the children's novel series written by Kathryn Lasky, simultaneously.
Variety reports that Guardians is lining up an impressive cast of voices, including Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving, and David Wenham. They're leading an equally strong group of supporting voice actors, such as Helen Mirren, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten, Emily Barclay, Miriam Margolyes and Jay Laga'aia.
Guardians tells the story of how an owl named Soren (Sturgess), who is entranced with his father's stories about the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, protected owlkind. Once Soren is kidnapped, he gathers together a group to escape and join the Guardians.
Next Showing: Guardians of Ga'Hoole is scheduled to open September 24, 2010

As much as I love a good animated film, sometime I have to sigh and wonder what would be if the same cast was in a live action feature. This is one of those times.
Zack Snyder's Guardians of Ga'hoole has found its official cast, and it's a little different from earlier reports in January. Hugo Weaving and Ryan Kwanten are still in, Hugh Jackman is not, and there are a whole bunch of new folks. The Hollywood Reporter posts that the cast will be headlined by Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, David Wenham, and Weaving. (Mucho props to Elisabeth for guessing right on Wenham in April '08!) These guys will be joined by the likes of Aussie folks Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Jay Laga'aia, and Kwanten. Plus -- three Brit actors with Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren, and Jim Sturgess. Unfortunately, there's no cast rundown of who will voice who, »

Zack Snyder has added the likes of Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush and Hugo Weaving to his animated adventure Guardians Of Ga'Hoole. In fact, he seems to be hiring half the available actors around for job, since Hugh Jackman, David Wenham, Abbie Cornish (below), Emily Barclay, Emile de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten and Jay Laga'aia are also aboard. We're not finished! Helen Mirren, Miriam Margoyles and Jim Sturgess have already been recording their voices. Phew… The plot? It follows a young owl named Soren, who listens to his father's tales...

Sam Neill, who you might have spotted yesterday on the Daybreakers poster, has today signed up to join Zack Snyder's animated film Guardians of Ga'Hoole, currently in production in Sydney. He rounds out a largely antipodean cast, but one which appears not to include Hugh Jackman, who had been rumoured for a role. As long-time Event Horizon fans, we're secretly hoping that whatever his role, it includes the line, "Do you see? Do You See?" somewhere.Ahem. We do know that Jim Sturgess voices the lead role of Soren, a young owl kidnapped by the dastardly orphanage of St. Aggies, where young birds are secretly trained to become soldiers. Instead, Soren is determined to join the Guardians of Ga'Hoole and fight for truth, justice and the right to turn your head through nearly 360°.Also in the cast are (deep breath) Abbie Cornish, Emily Barclay, Emilie de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten, »

While it.s nice to see Zack Snyder stepping out of his comfort zone by directing Guardians of Ga'Hoole, an 3D animated feature, is that really so far from what he already does? 300 and Watchmen were both filmed primarily in front of green screens and rendered later with computers. The truth is, I.d like to see Snyder step back into more traditional filmmaking like he did with Dawn of the Dead, but that may take a while. With the release date for Guardians only a year away, the cast is starting to fill up quite nicely. According to THR, Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham have all joined the voice cast of the animated feature. The flick follows a young owl who is keen on his dad.s tales about a group of hero owls called the Guardians of Ga.Hoole who saved the owl race. »

Carla Gugino has spent the better part of the last decade playing some of the most complicated and interesting female characters in Hollywood. After early roles in lighthearted fare like Son in Law, she played an appropriately combative counterpart for Michael J. Fox's deputy Mayor on Spin City before appearing in Wayne Wang's The Center of the World as a troubled seductress, Robert Rodriguez' Sin City as a tough-as-nails parole officer, Ridley Scott's American Gangster as Russell Crowe's exasperated ex-wife, and most recently in Zack Snyder's Watchmen as a sexpot superheroine with a pitch-black past. This month, she's acting in Sebastian Gutierrez' Women in Trouble, where she plays a porn star coming to terms with the news that she's pregnant.

It's been quite awhile since we heard about Zack Snyder's forthcoming adaptation of the children's book series Guardians of Ga'hoole. After the project was announced in early 2008, there was some minor casting news way back at the beginning of this year, but development has been pretty mute since then. Now THR's Heat Vision adds a whole bunch of new cast members who will lend their voice to the 3D animated feature including Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix Trilogy) and David Wenham (300) as well as a handful of even more actors after the jump. Also voicing characters will be Aussie actors Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, and Jay Laga'aia, as well as English actors Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren and Jim Sturgess. This rather impressive voice cast will bring characters to life in the story of Soren (Sturgess), a young »
