Thanksgiving is almost here, and ETonline is getting holiday tips from The Amazing Race and The Fabulous Beekman Boys stars Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge. Read on for the guys' advice on everything from what to serve, how to avoid travel frustration and how to go local with your Christmas shopping.
ETonline: For our readers who might be familiar with you from The Amazing Race, and the Cooking Channel, but who might not know more about you, can you tell us a little bit about yourselves, and your life on the farm?
Josh: Yeah. We were two city guys, who had great jobs in New York City. Brent worked for Martha Stewart, and I worked in advertising. And we bought a farm in upstate New York. Sort of just on a whim as a weekend place. And then in 2008, like a lot of Americans, we lost our jobs. We realized that we had to make this...

Yesterday, the first wave of films for Austin’s Fantastic Fest 2011 were announced. Since experiencing this festival for the first time last year, I have been waiting, impatiently, for September to roll around to attend this year. We published a “wishlist” of sorts of films we thought might play at Fantastic Fest and it looks like we scored two in this first wave – we aren’t counting Fulci’s Zombie because that was sort of a cheat. Read beyond the break to find out what films will be playing.
From the Press Release:
Austin, TX—Thursday, July 14th, 2011— Fantastic Fest is proud to announce our first wave of programming for the seventh edition of Fantastic Fest, happening September 22-29 in Austin, Texas.
This batch of 20 films spans the globe from Japan, Belgium, Mexico, Russia, Hong Kong, Korea and of course the USA. We’re debuting digital restorations of Italian horror...

We're heading into the time of year when shows start to drop out for the Christmas holiday, so you get stuck with a whole bunch of crappy specials or reruns through the holidays. At this point in both television and movie making history, the sheer number of Christmas films made must mean that you could program an entire month worth of television with nothing but Christmas movies that range from great to awful. I've probably just given some evil programming executive a wonderful, terrible idea. Whoops. Here's your Sunday night TV:
7:00pm: "60 Minutes" on CBS
"Football Night in America" on NBC
"Running Wilde" on Fox. Special night and time.

Last week, GLAAD released its 4th annual Network Responsibility Index. The purpose of the report is to evaluate Glbt representation on television by trying to assign a quantitative number to Glbt representation on primetime television for the five major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox, NBC) and the top ten cable networks (MTV, ABC Family, TNT, Showtime, Lifetime, FX, HBO, USA, A&E, TBS).
For an explanation of how GLAAD defines their methodology, please read our post Monday on GLAAD’s rating for The CW. Our look at Fox’s representation was improved while ABC continued to have a stellar record. NBC put in the effort on Glbt characters.
Today we look at the network of Norman Lear, who built shows around characters like Archie Bunker to call out racism, homophobia, and women’s rights. Those days are behind CBS.

Amazing Race stars Caite Upton and Brent Horne have said that they stand behind their decision to U-Turn fellow contestants Brandy Snow and Carol Rosenfeld. The models, who finished in third place on Sunday night's season finale, told Digital Spy that they were satisfied with making Snow and Rosenfeld complete a second detour challenge on the leg which ended in their elimination. "I definitely stand behind my decision. Maybe the smarter move would have been to U-Turn the cowboys because they are a really strong team, but I really like the cowboys and they deserved to be there way more than Carol and Brandy," explained Upton. Horne added: "I definitely agree. No-one really outside of, I think, Jordan especially and maybe Dan really made a relationship with them. Not that the whole show is about making relationships with other people or other (more)...

This recap discusses who won last nignt's episode of The Amazing Race. Stop reading if you don't want to know the winner. This is your last chance!
Okay...
The gays won! The gays won! The gays won! Well, the gay won, and so did his brother as season 16 of The Amazing Race finished up in San Francisco last night. Things got dicey early when Jordan put his backpack in front of the sleeping cowboys in the ticketing line, but it was clear sailing once Dan talked him and Jordan into first class after they were on the plane.
Last week's promos played up a "twist" at the end of the race, which basically turned out to be nothing more than Brandy shouting at Caite while Carol prayed that the ground would open and swallow her so she wouldn't have to hear it anymore.
Super congrats to Dan and Jordan!

As the final three teams raced toward Phil Keoghan and the finish mat in Candlestick Park in tonight's Amazing Race finale, their former competitors cheered. One team, however, stood aside…and sneered. Yep, Team Sour Grapes Carol Rosenfeld and Brandy Snow are still harboring that grudge against "dumb" beauty queen Caite Upton for the U-turn that ultimately resulted in their elimination in episode nine. Did the Catfight at the Candlestick Corral spoil the victory celebration? Thanks to Caite, no. By shouting "I love you all!" to the crowd, the third-place finisher (with partner Brent Horne) defused the hostilities and allowed Dan and Jordan Pious to celebrate...

Daniel and Jordan Pious slid into first place to win "The Amazing Race."The distinctly different siblings from Barrington, R.I., crossed the finish line first in San Francisco to take home the CBS reality series' $1 million grand prize. The brothers snaked to an early lead at the final leg's start, skipping cowboy brothers Jet and Cord McCoy from Tupelo, Okla., in line at the airport then slipping into the front of the plane."There's a million bucks at the other end, and I'm going after it," hissed Jordan. After the trek from Shanghai to the City by the Bay, the teams were tasked with ascending up the Coit Tower, navigating a virtual maze at visual effects company Industrial Light and Magic, lugging a giant trunk through the streets of San Francisco and assembling a puzzle of the previously eliminated teams from the around-the-world competition's 16th season.

Louie and Michael started The Amazing Race with a bold claim: they'd finish first in every leg. Well, that didn't happen, and they struggled for most of the race, save for a couple of legs in Europe. But that's not how I remember the two of them. I'll perhaps remember them for the decisions they made during their run on the show: their controversial U-turns, their alliances, and their intentions.
I got to talk to the detectives early this week, where we discussed their U-turning Joe and Heidi, their attempted U-turning of Carol and Brandy, and their relationship with Brent and Caite.

Amazing Race eliminees Louie Stravato and Michael Naylor have insisted that the decision to U-Turn fellow contestants Brandy Snow and Carol Rosenfeld was a good strategy move. The women were forced to complete a second detour challenge earlier this season after competitors Brent Horne and Caite Upton decided to U-Turn them, leading to their elimination. Speaking to Digital Spy, Stravato said: "It was absolutely a great strategy move. Mike says it best." Naylor continued to say that he viewed Brandy and Carol as a "strong team in any city", explaining that they were "very well travelled" and "very intellectual". "They were very well travelled which was my main reason for wanting them out, I had nothing personal with (more)...

How Is It May?!? God, this spring is just whipping by for me and now my classes are all over and I've got to start thinking about packing and storage spaces and finding a place to live next year and it always sneaks up on me. Anyway, it also means we're headed into the time of year when shows start ending, unless you're a fan of "Friday Night Lights" like me and remember that it starts this Friday! Awesomely! Same day "Iron Man 2" comes out! So there's a lot to look forward to this first week in May as long as you like the same things I do. And if you don't, well, it's my column. Here's what's on TV tonight:
7:00 p.m.: "60 Minutes" on CBS.

China. The far east empire home to vast natural landscapes, bustling urban metropolises, and questionable civil liberties. But more important, China is the setting for The Amazing Race this week. Four teams remain; New England cops Louie & Michael, brothers Dan & Jordan, dating couple Brent & Caite, and Oklahoma cowboys Jet & Cord. Refreshed from the expulsion of season-long enemies Carol & Brandy, the four remaining teams began the leg in a very amicable manner. Nobody fought, backstabbed, or forged alliances. For a reality-competition program, this is uncharted territory....

I'm currently caught in one of those evil cycles where there is no winning. I took my last test in one class! So now I can devote more energy to that project due this week. I got the final reading done for that other class! Which means I have a little more time to practice for that opera I'm playing next week. Any accomplishment is swiftly negated by the fact that there is just so much else I need to get done that free time is something I have to schedule rather than something I can stumble across after a particularly proactive afternoon. Here's a list of all the TV I won't be watching tonight because I'll be too busy working, playing my bass, cleaning up the disaster that is my room, or some combination of all three:

Amazing Race contestants Brandy Snow and Carol Rosenfeld have admitted that they were "blindsided" by their U-Turn in last week's episode. The dating couple were eliminated from the competition on Sunday night after fellow racers Caite Upton and Brent Horne chose to U-Turn them following the detour challenge. Upton had previously accused the pair of being "mean" to her, although they denied it. Speaking to Digital Spy, Snow said: "I'm disappointed about it because the way the season has unfolded, it's really come to show less of a strategic and intelligent move, and more of a very personal, pretty hatred (more)...

Carol and Brandy is the sort of team that'd split opinion. Take it from me on this one: in the early legs of the race they came across as this annoying, snobbish team. In the later legs, however, they got their act together and became this focused team, and suddenly I don't mind seeing them far on the race. So, I'll admit, I felt a little bad when they got U-turned in Singapore on The Amazing Race last Sunday, and were consequently eliminated.
The couple were known for their many lines--witty, rude, choose your pick--and I got to experience just that when I talked to them early today. We talked about their early bickering, their opinion towards Brent and Caite, and that "valet parking" line in Los Angeles.

The debate about Brent and Caite's use of the phrase "the lesbians" to refer to a fellow Amazing Race team now has some insight from Carol Rosenfeld and Brandy Snow, who don't call Brent Horne and Caite Upton homophobic, but do think that the couple's sexual orientation played a role in Caite's contempt for them. This is notable especially because last season, the show manufactured conflict between a gay team and a straight team. In...

Caite Upton and Brent Horne seemed to have it out for Carol Rosenfeld, 47, and Brandy Snow, 40, from the beginning of The Amazing Race this season — which was news to the couple. "We both had separate conversations with her and Caite talked about [her infamous answer at Miss Teen USA 2007] and how she overcame it. I remember specifically saying, 'Good for you,' so to find out how much she hated us was a complete shock," Carol tells TVGuide.com. The models' self-described hatred culminated in them U-Turning Carol and Brandy in Sunday's episode, leading to their anger-filled elimination. Get the duo's take on the so-called "feud," why they think Caite in particular was after them, and if they would've used the U-Turn on the models.

'Amazing Race': Who was eliminated last night? I don't watch "The Amazing Race". I just can't find anything interesting about a group of people chasing clues across the country. So it's all thanks to our friends at On The Flix for keeping us informed about the show.
Dan and Jordan were fortunate to get a 'Fast Foward' challenege which allowed them to gain a significant advance over the other teams. Since they finished the challege first, they won a motor bike. Brent and Caite finished in second place and Jet and Cord wound up in third place. In fourth place was Louie and Michael.
Carol and Brandy finished in last place due to having to complete a challenge involving a U-Turn which through them completely off course. With that said, Carol and Brandy were eliminated from last night's episode of "The Amazing Race".
What do you guys think?...

Here's the thing. Most of you must be happy to see Carol and Brandy go. And I know where you're coming from: they may have run a strong race in later legs, but they're quite the mean folk. But I'm not happy to see them go, because they've been replaced by more mean folk. Oh well. I'm just happy the cowboys are still around.
Want an explanation? Here are my post-leg honors for last week's The Amazing Race. There's a rude jab, there's another rude jab, and there's an unintentionally rude jab. And then there are the cowboys, nice as they can be. With four teams left in the competition, this should get really obvious.

I’d like to apologize to Dan and Jordan. Throughout the entire season, I’ve commented that the brothers are equally irritating and incapable. Whether it be their inability to drive a stick shift, their Jimmy Olsen-caliber wide-eyed naivety, or their especially effeminate mannerisms and diction, Dan and Jordan have just rubbed me the wrong way since episode one.
In retrospect, it’s more than just luck that’s propelled this duo into the final five. Dan and Jordan have this certain unnameable quality that places them among the upper echelon of teams. Unlike dating couples Brent and Caite, or Carol and Brandy, there’s no stereotypical reality TV backstabbing and double-faced tactics. Unlike headstrong brothers Jet and Cord or cock-of-the-walk police officers Louie and Michael, Dan and Jordan emanate a sense of humbleness, of humanity, of fallibility and self-deprecation. Carol Rosenfeld & Brandy Snow got eliminated from "Amazing Race" 16 in episode 9. Tonight's episode kicked off with scenes from last weeks episode when Steve & Allison got eliminated. Then the teams had to catch a train to the city of Singapore. After they arrived there, they had to make their way to the Victoria Concert Hall & Theater, and find a guy name Luke to get their next clue. After the teams got their clue from Luke at the Victoria Concert Hall, they had to do their next Detours. They got to choose between the "Pounding the Drums" detour, or the "Pounding the Pavement" detour.

This week’s episode of The Amazing Race takes place in Malaysia, the archipelago nation of southeast Asia. The tropical climate was well-received by front-runner father/daughter team Steve and Allie. Last week, the pair made a monumental blunder by forgetting their backpacks during a challenge. Far too involved in the race to backtrack and retrieve the forgotten goods, Steve and Allie opted instead to venture on without them, choosing to complete the race with nothing more than their passports and the clothes off their back.
Teams were instructed to fly from the African island nation of Seychelles all the way across the Indian Ocean to the city of Penang, Malaysia. Once there, teams needed to seek out Snake Temple. The Buddhist temple was constructed in 1850, and the name is quite appropriate. Inside, hundreds of snakes live inside uninhibited. Sadly, no team had the foresight to make an Indiana Jones joke.

My brother loves geography. He is currently at college studying for a career in geospatial technology. When his classmates were learning the basic fundamentals of subtraction, he memorized all fifty Us states and their capitals. In fifth grade, he competed in a statewide geography bee. He can currently name all 195 nations of the world and can nearly name all their capitals and largest cities. As such, when he hears of some small, obscure nation like Seychelles, his synapses connect and form a reaction similar to how you and I would react to Mexico.
Seychelles, a tropical island nation off the eastern coast of Africa, was indeed the location of this week’s episode of The Amazing Race. Welcome Back Race Fans!! Time for another recap of this week's episode of The Amazing Race!! If you recall last week, The Cops, Louie & Michael, hit the mat in first place, and Jeff & Jordan came in last but were saved by a non-elimination leg. Take a deep breath Jj fans, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!!

I must say that Jeff has a very positive attitude and both Jeff & Jordon are determined not to be eliminated tonight. Welcome Back Racers! Time for another recap of The Amazing Race! Last week we left our racers in Argentina and saw the Cowboys continue to pull ahead of the other racers for their second consecutive win, and Monique and Shawne found themselves in last place at the mat and were eliminated. Well, hold on to your cowboy hats because we're in for a bumpy ride this week!!
In this leg, teams travel from Argentina to Hamburg, Germany! Finally, we're out of South America! The Cowboys (Jet & Cord) kick off the leg and the Cops (Louie & Michael) are tired of coming in at the bottom of the pack. The Princesses (Carol & Brandy) realize they had a lot of problems communicating in the last leg, so this time around they're going to try to be more respectful to each other – we'll see how long that lasts. Brother Dan confesses he hates to...

Last night on The Amazing Race, the cowboys, Jet and Cord, took the lead again to become the first ones to arrive at the pit stop for the second week in a row. Brent and Caite started the leg in the hospital but managed to arrive seventh at the pit stop. Clips and other highlights from last night's episode after the jump:
Detour--teams had to choose between Horse Sense and Horse Power. In Horse Sense, teams visited a gunslinger who gave them a set of directional coordinates. Then, using an old-time compass for reference, teams had to follow the coordinates by counting out the specific number of steps given, to find a bag of stolen money buried in the ground. Then they had to deliver the money to the lead bandit at the train station. If the coordinates on the bag matched those on their sheet, the lead band would give them their next clue.

Welcome back Race Fans! Tonight we start where we left off, in Puerto Varas, Chile. Last week the Grandmother/Grandmother team of Jody & Shannon were eliminated, and the Cowboys, Jet & Cord won the leg, and started in first place tonight. Once again, they begin exactly 12 hours after they finished the last leg, so our Racers have been going for 3 days straight! I imagine exhaustion and stress will be taking it's toll. So let's see how they do:
We start out with some beautiful scenic shots of Puerto Varas' snow capped mountains, grassy parks, and antique statues and monuments. It really makes you want to visit this part of the world, and reminds you of the tragic Earthquake that rocked the country this past week. The teams start off taking one of two buses on a six hour trek through the Andes Mountains and cross the border into Argentina. Then they...

The momentum of Jet and Cord continued on The Amazing Race this week, as they made one correct move after another and rocketed into first place.
What the cowboys truly have going for them right now is a calm demeanor. Even while in last place during the premiere, they never seemed to panic or lose perspective on what was in front of them. By remaining serene, Jet and Cord nailed the painting challenge in the premiere and then masterfully handled bus situation from Santiago to Puerto Varas.
Their outmaneuvering of the other nine teams put them well ahead going in the two challenges and they finished the leg mistake free for a victory.
I felt they were the favorites going into the season, but quickly lamented my selection at the start of the race. Now? They look unbeatable.
Their Lone Ranger approach to the game with a singular attitude – only...

Last night's Amazing Race across Chile saw all kinds of smarts and adorableness from Team Cowboy, all kinds of word vomit from Team Big Brother and Team Dating Models, and the defeat of the encouraging, but inept Team Nana.
Also gay Jordan danced in a pen of llamas and the lesbian couple, Carol and Brandy, went over to the dark side. We also realized that if we ever get on The Amazing Race, we're going with Grandma Adama from Caprica because that broad is hard core.
Here's everything else that happened last night:

Although Nana Jodi was incredibly calm throughout this leg of the race in Chile, she and grand daughter, Shannon, were the last to arrive at this week's pit stop on The Amazing Race. Jodi says she feels if Shannon had done the roadblock, they might still be in the race, but Shannon feels her Nana should stop beating herself up so much--she's proud of her. They arrive at 'elimination station' in the clip below and talk about the race:
As for the other teams from last night's episode, here are the highlights:
Cowboys, Jet and Cord, rode to become the leaders of the pack and won this leg of the race. (prize was sailboats)
Carol and Brandy formed an alliance with married couple, Joe and Heidi. Probably not Joe and Heidi's best move as Carol and Brandy don't seem to be able to do anything on their own at...

Nestled deep in the Andes Mountains is the coastal nation of Chile; the location of this week’s episode of The Amazing Race. Departing from the beautiful city of Valparaiso, frontrunners Jordan and Jeff led the pack. Upon departure, The Big Brother alumni were given a lengthy set of instructions. First, they were directed to the Valparaiso bus station, where they would ride to the Chilean capital of Santiago. Once there, they must take another bus south to Puerto Varas, a trip well over 575 miles. In Puerto Varas, teams had to drive themselves to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, take a boat trip to Isla Margarita, then hike uphill to Mirador, an outlook over Todos los Santos Lake. Mind you, this cumbersome journey was simply the directions to the first challenge.
While CBS normally reserves a block of seats on flights, trains and buses, such was not the case tonight.

The Amazing Race returned for its 16th season on Sunday night with three gay contestants: Carol and Brandy, a lesbian couple, and Jordan, who is competing with his straight brother. We're recapping it a little differently this year. Let us know what you think!
Jordan and Daniel came in seventh after incurring a fifteen minute penalty for losing a paint brush. Hopefully, they'll move up the rankings next week!
And then there are some captions you just can't improve...

Yes, you read correctly. "Big Brother" contestants Jordan Lloyd and Jeff Schroeder are competing on a team for the 16th season of "The Amazing Race." Can we say Romber 2.0?
Their involvement isn't a huge surprise since Zap2it had reported in November that the couple was spotted and snapped in an airport in "Tar" garb & backpacks with a camera crew nearby.
The reality show-hoppers will compete against 10 other teams for "Amazing Race 16," which premieres on the most romantic of holidays for the lovebirds, Sunday, Feb. 14 Valentine's Day at 8 p.m. Et/Pt.
Among the other contestants are a couple of undercover detectives, dating models, a 71-year-old grandma/personal trainer and a pro bull rider.
As always, the Emmy-nominated Phil Keoghan will host. In the latest installment of the race around the world, the teams will start in Los Angeles on the nearly 40,000 mile race that spans five continents and eight countries.

It's official: two of Big Brother's most beloved players ever are joining the next installment of The Amazing Race. Undercover detectives Louis Stravato, 47, and Michael Naylor, 45, from Providence, R.I. Father Steve Smith,...

An instantly forgettable trifle, "Fortune Cookie" has no new insights into the awkwardness of first dates or long-delayed declarations of true love, but it does have an enthusiastic cast that provides some gently comic moments. The directorial debut of Clay Essig, written by Rob Thomas (ABC's "Cupid"), the low-budget American indie shot in Utah premiered at the Hollywood Film Festival.
By far the most photogenic and engaging of the three related couples who converge at a restaurant that purveys customized fortune cookies, high schoolers Heath (Matt Barker) and Doug (Rachel Kimsey) are mismatched. She's a confused cheerleader who agrees to let the awkward but sweet guy take her to the prom. Their rocky road to appreciating each other has no serious problems needing radical maneuvers, but the performers are appealing and the characters are the most believable in the movie.
Heath's jaded older sister (Brandy Snow) goes out on a date with a handsome radio DJ (Christopher Marley). They get to know each other's sensitive secrets and spar about details as she measures his sincerity, with little doubt they will bond seriously if they ever stop blabbing.
The third couple is Doug's widowed mother (Terra Allen) and her boyfriend (Doug Caputo), who is considering a new job out of town and wants to pop the question. Instead, they come close to breaking up during the climactic scenes, with the eatery's cynical Fortune Cookie scribe producing riddle-like words of wisdom.
Well-mannered, with no sex or harsh language, "Fortune Cookie" is competently made.
