When David Tennant hands over the keys to the Tardis on New Year's Day it will be the end of the most popular incarnation of Doctor Who of all time.
But there's bad news for new Doctor Matt Smith. In a poll of British TV viewers, more than 21 per cent of respondents put Ewan McGregor as their first choice to take over as the new Time Lord, with Matt Smith coming sixth.
Research commissioned by leading comparison site Gocompare.com reveals that of the 10 Doctors we've seen so far David Tennant is easily the most popular, with over 45 per cent naming him as their favourite.
Tom Baker, who played the Doctor from 1974 to 1981 in his trademark hat and long woolly scarf, was second with nearly 20 per cent of the votes, and Jon Pertwee's 'dandy' Doctor was third with just over 10 per cent. Tom Baker was the most popular Doctor among 36-to-40-year-olds. »

Doctor Who is more about entertainment than social realism and the show has relied on a procession of baddies to raise the hackles of the audience. Not always do we end up scuttling behind the sofa though, as on occasions certain over-the-top performances have provoked cringes and guffaws instead. In the wake of Elisabeth Sladen’s hamtastic turn as the Androvax-possessed Sarah Jane, we look at some other 'interesting' depictions of villainy in the Whoniverse over the years... Soldeed Graham Crowden’s performance in the 1979 story ‘The Horns Of Nimon’ is the purest piece of unadulterated ham in Who history. Theatrical is not the word. Stomping around the corridors of a spaceship with a wild-eyed glare and scowl, he delivered some shocking dialogue in the most overly enunciated pantomime-esque style possible. "You are all doomed. Dooooomed!!" (more) »

In one of the most anticipated panels of the day, writer/executive producer Russell T Davies, David Tennant, director Euros Lyn, and executive producer Julie Gardner (not pictured) discuss their creative process and experiences working on Doctor Who, television's longest-running science fiction series, along with a few tips and teases about what's to come in the (sob) short time left.
While there was healthy applause for Davies, Lyn and Gardner at the beginning of the panel, the crowd went wild for the entrance of Tennant, wearing a glittering Stormtrooper T-shirt and jeans. He was a bit mock-taken aback-- "they told us nobody knows Doctor Who in America."
Pretty quickly they went stright into the trailer for Tennant's finale on the show, "The End of Time" airing Christmas 2009, featuring the return of Donna Noble, her grandpa, and the Master. After showing of the trailer, Tennant said it went by too fast »

Not many people are ready for David Tennant, the current Doctor Who, to leave the show and pass the baton to youngster Matt Smith, but people have to embrace change, and with it comes a new picture of Smith and a fun new set video. One of the big changes is the new look of The Doctor: a tweed jacket, bow tie, rolled up trousers and black boots, which seems a bit timely for a character that is supposed to be thousands of years old.
Alongside Smith is Karen Gillan, who will be playing the 11th doctors traveling companion. With Gillan only 21 and Smith 26, there is a lot of harsh feelings that the new doctor/companion relationship will be more like Twilight rather than the series that has been airing on and off since the 50s. Check out the set video from BBC News after the jump.

Sigourney Weaver'S iconic character Ellen Ripley from the Alien film series has been named the top female in science fiction.
She topped a list of The 25 Women Who Shook Sci-Fi compiled by Totalscifionline.com, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, in second place, and Battlestar Galactica's Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) third.
From the comic book world, the list features the movie portrayals of Storm and Catwoman and Lynda Carter's iconic 70s TV version of Wonder Woman.
Ripley first appeared in Ridley Scott's Alien (1979), emerging as the sole survivor of the Nostromo's encounter with an acid-blooded xenomorph. The character was originally written as a male role before 20th Century Fox executive Alan Ladd Jr suggested they change the gender to make the protagonist stand out.
Matt McAllister, editor of Totalscifionline.com said: "Ripley is one of cinema's seminal characters. She is strong, »

Three former companions of Doctor Who are reportedly to get married in David Tennant's final appearances before he quits the role.
Tennant is to play the Time Lord in three more specials and, according to The Sun, the final story will see Rose (played by Billie Piper) marry the half-human clone of the Doctor in their parallel universe, while Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) will tie the knot with show regular Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke).
Tennant will also appear in two episodes of this summer's new series of spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, when he bursts in on the wedding of his former companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen).
Producer Russell T Davies promised the two-parter is "extraordinary, wild and powerfully moving".
He added: "Let's just say that the wedding will be a day for everyone to remember!

British actor David Tennant will be resuming his role as Doctor Who sooner than we all expected - in two episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures this Autumn.
Tennant, 38, will guest star in two episodes of the Cbbc series shortly before he gives up his five year run as Doctor Who in 2010. The show follows the adventures of investigative journalist and former companion to the Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, who in turn featured in latest series finale of Doctor Who.
Sarah Jane is played by Elisabeth Sladen, 61, she originally played the role opposite John Pertwee and Tom Baker between 1973 and 1976.
"When I heard the news that David was going to be joining us I was absolutely over the moon," said Sladen.
"It's fantastic news that Sarah Jane is going to spend some time working with the Doctor again and is testament to just how successful this Cbbc series is."
