The Antlers have returned with their first new song in nearly two years. On Thursday, they unveiled “I Was Not There,” an introspective ballad that captures their signature sound and style. Alongside the release, they also announced a special, one-off show in New York this June.
“Perhaps counterintuitively, ‘I Was Not There’ is about the elusive experience of complete presence,” frontman Peter Silberman explained in a statement about the song. “Across three scenes, the song describes fleeting moments of clarity and wholeness, and the accompanying feeling of leaving yourself.”
To that end, the powerful-yet-succinct message of the song perfectly matches the subtle moods conveyed by the accompanying music. Starting out with just a hazy, nostalgic piano, the arrangement blossoms open with shimmering synths, expressive guitar lines, and drummer Michael Lerner’s tastefully syncopated part. Over top, Silberman’s silk-smooth vocals strike a symbolically appropriate balance between raw vulnerability and angelic beauty.

Earl Boen, the busy character actor best known for his stint as the criminal psychologist Peter Silberman in the Terminator film franchise, died Thursday in Hawaii, his daughter told The Hollywood Reporter. He was 81.
Ruby Harbin said her dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in November and died quietly in his sleep.
Born on Aug. 8, 1941, Boen amassed dozens of credits during his career. In 1984, he landed his most notable role as Dr. Silberman in James Cameron’s The Terminator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn. He reprised the role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003).
One memorable scene in the first Terminator saw the character interrogate Biehn’s Kyle Reese, a freedom fighter from the future that the psychologist believed suffered from paranoid delusions. Nearly 40 years later, Biehn recalled fondly his time working with Boen on the scene.

One of the most underrated masterstrokes of James Cameron's "The Terminator," and this is a film stuffed with masterstrokes, was his decision to have Dr. Peter Silberman exit that Los Angeles police station prior to the title cyborg's murderous rampage. It's not that we wanted the high-handed criminal psychologist -- who wrongfully shrugs off Kyle Reese's (Michael Biehn) claim that he was sent back in time from a post-apocalyptic future to protect Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) from a robotic assassin -- to survive the carnage. We just didn't know at the time that he would wind up being one of the series' most delectably despicable characters.
Silberman was portrayed by the incredibly prolific character actor Earl Boen, who passed away yesterday from lung cancer at the age of 81. He was very much a "that guy," i.e. an unforgettable face who turned up in countless films and television shows,...

Earl Boen, best known for portraying a disbelieving psychologist in James Cameron’s first two “Terminator” films, has died at 81, according to multiple media reports.
Boen, a New York native, passed away Thursday in Hawaii. A cause of death has not been reported, but a friend of the actor told Variety that he was diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer in late 2022.
A longtime performer with nearly 300 film, television and video game credits, Boen is best known for playing Dr. Peter Silberman in James Cameron’s first “Terminator” movie. The cynical Dr. Boen had little time for Kyle Reese’s (Michael Biehn) grim warnings about a nuclear holocaust and resulting human-vs.-robot future war.

Hollywood union publicists have selected Warner Bros.’ “Joker” and Disney’s “The Mandalorian” as winners of the Maxwell Weinberg Awards for top publicity campaigns last year.
The awards were announced Friday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton by the International Cinematographers Guild Publicists.
“Joker” won the feature film award and topped the publicity teams behind Netflix’s “The Irishman,” Universal’s “Us,” Sony’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” Paramount’s “Rocketman” and Disney-Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” The Joaquin Phoenix vehicle was a smash with more than $1 billion in global box office along with receiving 11 Academy Award nominations.
The first season of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian” took the television awards over the campaigns for “Catch 22,” “Fosse/Verdon,” “Pose,” and “Stranger Things.”
Steven Huvane of Slate PR won the Les Mason award, presented by longtime client Jennifer Aniston, who told the audience, “You really are some of the hardest working people in this town.

Oh, the irony! I’ve been covering Hollywood industry awards as a journalist for 30 years and now I’m nominated for the Press Award bestowed by Hollywood’s leading PR guild: Icg Publicists. It’s so gracious of them – thank you, huzzahs to all – but now I’ll get a toxic dose of what I report on all the time: nominee jitters.
Uh-oh: do my Hollywood industry peers really, really like me? Should I campaign aggressively? Rent out billboards on Sunset Boulevard? What should I wear on Feb. 7 when the winner is revealed at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the same room where the Golden Globes are doled out?
Lucky for me, I know the drill. I’ve been nominated, and lost, twice in the past. Only 16 more defeats and I’ll be the Susan Lucci of the Publicists’ Award! So, please, save me: spread the word across town — Vote for Tom!

I’m sure all of you remember the movie Terminator. And I’m sure you all remember the snotty, cocky sounding psychologist Dr. Peter Silberman. Silberman also appears Terminator 2 and 3. But the real question is “who plays Dr. Silberman?” That answer is none other than Earl Boen. I can all but guarantee you never knew that name until the moment you just read that sentence. So who is Earl Boen? Veteran character actor Earl Boen was born on November 7, 1945 in New York City. He is probably best known for his role as criminal psychologist Dr. Peter Silberman in

The first film set I ever visited was for John Carpenter’s Starman. I was 13, and the film was shooting just outside Chattanooga, Tn, where I lived at the time. When I was leaving the set at the end of the day, the unit publicist (the great Peter J. Silbermann) gave me a copy of the script by Bruce A. Evans & Raynold Gideon and Dean Riesner, the first actual film script I ever read. It could have been anything I read first, but I’m glad that as I started try to break down structure and character and the crazy magic trick that is writing words on a page that then come to life on a film set, it was that script which I was studying. It’s a lovely piece of writing, and there’s a reason Jeff Bridges got nominated for an Oscar playing the lead role of...

Like all superheroes (or anyone else who uses a secret identity), there came a moment when someone finally cracked the code and published my real name. To be fair, my identity was a pretty poorly-kept secret by that point. The first time I went to an actual press event, I used my real name, and anytime I met someone, I used my real name. "Moriarty" was a fun identity to slip into, and especially in the early days of the site, we played up the mythology of things. My friends all got their own spy names and would show up in the reports in the form of Henchman Mongo and Segue Zagnut and Harry Lime and more. From my end, it was silly and fun, and not something to be taken seriously. But when Film Threat ran a fairly vicious hit piece on Harry, I was also a target, and...

Frightmare! The premier horror convention in the Southwest has come again, and it was a riot. Well, not literally. Thankfully, massive improvements were made this year with line management of the more popular guests and parking so even when things were hot and heavy on Saturday, we never reached the critical mass found last year.
The movie and television guests were a literal who's who of icons throughout the years. The three guests of honor, Linda Blair, George A Romero, and Tobin Bell, were all busy with fans at their tables all weekend. I heard that Bell went till 1am signing on Saturday to make sure everyone was taken card of.
Having tables set up near empty walls for attendees to line up against and usage of tickets when lines got too long were big improvements. With the three guests of honor and other fan favorites such as Scott Wilson...

Photo by Justin Bishop. “New York doesn’t do well with uncomfortable silence,” Peter Silberman, lead singer of indie darlings The Antlers, said after an uncomfortable silence between songs at a sold-out Bowery Ballroom, in Manhattan. It would be hard for there not to be a blank moment between songs at an Antlers show, if only to let people weep out the pain. The band’s 2009 release Hospice is all about a terminally ill child in the hospital. Painted with foreboding keyboards, fuzzy guitars relying heavily on crescendo, and Silberman’s eerie falsetto, Hospice is, as Liberman put it when I spoke with him yesterday, “About being shut off with one person and inadvertently destroying a lot of your other relationships.” I’m not ashamed to say I wasn’t totally thrilled with The Antlers at first. Friends told me stories of crying on the subway listening to Hospice. Others...
