Amitabh Bachchan’s Film With Subhash Ghai Was Shelved After A Showdown & Then Boney Kapoor Pitched Ram Lakhan (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Old-age Bollywood is an era where a lot happened and was never revealed. Most of the stories were slid under covers, and many of them were shared and remembered in memories but weren’t published ever. One such story happened on one of the elaborate sets of Subhash Ghai’s film that starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead.
The angry young man was the muse for the showman of the industry, and they were working on a film titled Devaa. The shoot began in 1987. The film also starred Raaj Kumar, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Shammi Kapoor, and Ila Arun, and the music was given by Laxmikant Pyarelal. However, the film was eventually shelved. Guess why? Because of Big B, cheating Ghai and their regular ego-clashes.

Pyar karne wale kabhi darte nahin jo darte hain woh pyar karte nahin. 32 years ago Meenakshi Sheshadri had lip-synced Anand Bakshi’s famous words about boundless, unchained, unstoppable love.
Now it’s the striking debutant Athiya Shetty who mouths these words, though we don’t see her saying it. Just feeling it.
Which is really in the fitness of things. This 2015 adaptation of Subhash Ghai’s 1983 musical blockbuster captures the impish bustle and the unbridled impetuousness of first love from the original, and merges these into something slightly sinister and dark.
Because, folks this is 2015. Love at first sight is not a tenable target for a lifetime of togetherness. There are more practical considerations to be gone through before love conquers the pay cheque. Nikhil Advani’s remake of a film about a highly melodratic love is rendered into practical pastel pastiche of passion pain and rebellion.
Hero looks and feels posh.

Though Salman Khan has done many roles as the romantic hero, the actor follows a 'no-intimate-scene' policy and has always strived to maintain the 'family film' stance. Now that the actor has entered into the new zone of production, he continues to follow the same principle. In the film Hero produced by him, Salman Khan asked director Nikhil Advani to remove a 'lip lock' scene. Revealing about the decision, director Nikhil Advani mentioned that it was just a brush of lips but Salman Khan was sure that he wanted the scene to be edited out. Describing it, Nikhil stated that the scene in the film has Sooraj and Athiya lying atop a truck when Sooraj lovingly pulls out a blanket on them and then he kisses her, which Nikhil claims to be a 'peck'. In fact, elaborating on it, Nikhil added that even before he could see it, Salman spotted...

Since many days, speculations have been rife about the postponement of the upcoming film Hero starring debutants Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty. While the two were recently seen together in a sizzling photoshoot for a reputed film magazine, now, it seems that the audience will have to wait for a while to see them together on the big screen. Apparently, the makers have decided to change the release date of the film owing to religious reasons and the release of Salman Khan's film Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Hero, which is a remake of the 1983 Jackie Shroff, Meenakshi Sheshadri starrer by the same name, will now release in the first week of September instead of July. From what we hear, the film which was set to release on July 3 falls in the week of Ramzan, when many will abstain from watching films as a form of observing Ramzan. Moreover, considering that Salman Khan...

With Ghayal being a turning point in Sunny Deol's career, the action star decided to revive the memories and continue the film by making it a franchise of sorts. Though the actor has stayed mum over the turn of events related to the second installment, we hear that Sunny is making an extra effort to make Ghayal Returns, yet another landmark in his career. From shooting on real locations to hiring a Hollywood stunt co-ordinator, Ghayal Returns will be having a lot more novel elements compared to its prequel. Sunny Deol has roped in The Bourne Legacy fame Dan Bradley to create some unique action sequences for Ghayal Returns. Moreover, it is being said that, unlike the recent trend, Sunny wants to underplay in the stunt department and avoid over the top stunts. While the prequel had Meenakshi Sheshadri playing the female lead, Ghayal Returns will see Soha Ali Khan...

Karan Johar and Nikhil Advani were said to have had fallout but the filmmakers have decided to let bygones be bygones. In fact, Karan has taken a step further and gifted a Punjabi song to Nikhil Advani for his upcoming film Hero.
From what we hear, Nikhil Advani was in search of a special song for his film, which is a remake of the 1983 Jackie Shroff, Meenakshi Sheshadri starrer by the same name. On the other hand, Karan Johar had asked the lyricist Kumaar to compose a few songs for his upcoming film and Kumaar had already given 10 songs for his film. By now, we all know that Nikhil Advani is directing Hero, which is a remake of Subhash Ghai's 1983 blockbuster by the same name, which stars Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty in the lead and is being produced by Salman Khan. The latest update is that Aditya Pancholi will now be playing the part of a notorious minister in the film. If reports are to be believed then, the story plot goes like this... in the film, Aditya spots Sooraj who earns his livelihood by selling newspapers at traffic junctions, in order to support his mother. And when Sooraj lands up in jail (for reasons unknown so far) after his mother's death, Aditya Pancholi bails him out and later adopts him and trains him in his nefarious activities. The 80s version had Jackie Shroff playing the role of a goon who, along with his three friends, kidnaps the wealthy and...

The casting of Nikhil Advani's remake of Subhash Ghai's 1983 blockbuster Hero just got far more interesting and engaging. Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia has been cast in the role of debutante Aathiya Shetty's father. In the original Ghai film, Shammi Kapoor played Mennakshi Sheshadri's father. Apparently Dhulia was selected for the part since director Nikhil Advani wanted an actor who could capture the original's ebullience and zest for life. Says Dhulia, "I don't know what made Nikhil choose me. But it's an honour and a challenge to play a role originally done by Shammi Saab. I am his hugest fan...Well, I don't know about 'hugest' because in terms of girth there may be some others who can match up to Shammi Saab." Dhulia admits Aathiya's father's role has been amplified and fleshed out in the remake. "I play a far more proactive role than Shammi Saab did in the original.

Desperate for a directorial hit since the 1999 Aishwarya Rai-starrer Taal, Bollywood’s original ‘showman’ Subhash Ghai will be back to film direction with a multi-starrer this year.
After the Anil Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai starrer Taal, all his directorial ventures – Yaadein, Kisna: The Warrior Poet, Black & White and Yuvvraaj - have bombed at the box-office despite having a formidable casting.
“That is past now, I have a lot of hopes riding on this new film,” Ghai said, who runs the film production and distribution company Mukta Arts.
“Art and commerce – both are involved when I think of making a film. If the film is too arty and cannot be made for the general audience, then I have to think twice,” he said when asked about what kind of a film he is about to direct.
A member of the Kaanchi team tells us, “It was a very emotional moment for Subhashji.

The glamorous industry of Bollywood owes a lot to the Miss India pageant; a talent house which has produced some of the biggest film stars. The names include Nutan, Zeenat Aman, Juhi Chawla, Meenakshi Seshadri, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra.
And now another Miss India participant Rakul Preet is all set to enter the glittering world with Yaariyaan; the directorial debut of T-Series’ head honcho Bhushan Kumar’s wife Divya Kumar.

Subhash Ghai – “Last week while I was shooting for my film Kaanchi in Uttaranchal, I experienced one of the most magical moments of my life – the mystic mountains, mesmerising music, colourful dancers and a young crew. But what thrilled me the most was the performance of my heroine Mishti, who is playing the title role. It reminded me how excited I was working with newcomers Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri in Hero in the 80s.
I realised that I’m at my best when I work with young talent as it’s a challenge for me. Action movies are back in style and every actor worth a punch at the box office is getting back into to action in a big way. Ghajini in 2008 was the first action masala movie with a big star after a long time and took audiences by storm. Then followed Salman Khan’s Wanted in 2009, his Dabangg in 2010, Ajay Devgan’s Singham in 2011 and Hrithik Roshan’s Agneepath earlier this year. Each film smashed records at the box office, crossing the 100 crore mark and bringing back the single screen nostalgia for action films – the grand hero entry, bravado performances and gripping tales. They also generated interest within the multiplex audiences, who were used to watching family dramas and glitzy romantic films set abroad.

Lo, behold and get ready to see your favourite mainstream actresses of 90’s coming back to grace the silver screen all over again. Times have clearly changed and the career of a leading actress has now got a much deserved extension due to changing norms of film industry. Yesteryear actresses were not this privileged and most of them faded into oblivion or took the mother/ sister roles like Rati Agnihotri and Poonam Dhillon.
Indian film industry has been a male dominated industry and leading actors have a larger shelf life than those of leading actresses. There is usually a huge age gap between the lead actors and newly launched debutant actresses. However, the reverse trend is mostly rejected (Rani-Shahid in Dil Bole Hadippa). Thanks to television reality shows we still get to see our favourite actresses, but we hardly get to see them in a mainstream movie.
