Hyderabad, May 13 (Ians) The Match No.58 of Ipl 2023 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Supergiants on Saturday had to be stopped for nearly 10 minutes due to the unruly behaviour of the crowd behind the visiting team dugout at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The stoppage in play during the 19th over of the first innings happened after Hyderabad had been controversially denied a free hit as Lucknow reviewed an on-field call by the square-leg umpire, who deemed the ball from pacer Avesh Khan to batter Abdul Samad was above waist height and called it a no-ball.
After seeing the replays, the third umpire Yeshwant Barde overturned the decision despite the ball appearing to reach the crease above Samad’s waist. The call though was marginal as Samad was slightly crouching at that time, leaving the batter as well as non-striker Heinrich Klaasen unimpressed and the square-leg umpire giving a bemused look.

Hyderabad, May 13 (Ians) Lucknow Super Giants skipper Krunal Pandya said the message sent out to the batters during the second time-out in the chase of 183 against Sunrisers Hyderabad was to go after the bowlers and get the momentum in their favour.
At 89/2 in 13 overs and the asking rate going in excess of 13, chasing down 183 was looking very bleak for Lucknow. Post the time-out, Prerak Mankad, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis changed gears in a display of unbelievable big-hitting to take the side to a seven-wicket victory over Hyderabad with four balls.
Stoinis and Pooran were pivotal in changing the course of the match, smashing 31 runs in the 16th over bowled by Abhishek Sharma, including five sixes. While Mankad was 64 not out, Pooran smashed 44 not out off just 13 balls and Stoinis played a cameo of 45 off 20 balls.
“It was nothing special. It’s just that we had to go after the bowlers.

Hyderabad, May 13 (Ians) Heinrich Klaasen was on the offensive against spinners in making 47 while Abdul Samad provided a finishing touch with 37 not out to carry Sunrisers Hyderabad to 182/6 in 20 overs against Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday.
On a pitch which had turn for the spinners, as seen from Lucknow captain Krunal Pandya’s 2-24, Klaasen and Samad added 58 runs for the sixth wicket to give Hyderabad something to defend in an innings in which many got starts, but couldn’t translate into a big score.
Electing to bat first, Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma hit three fours in the first two overs, before the latter was beaten for pace and bounce by one banged in from Yudhvir Singh and took the glove edge to the keeper.

Jaipur, May 8 (Ians) Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram was a relieved man after his team chased down 215 on the last ball against Rajasthan Royals while admitting that emotions changed very quickly when Abdul Samad hit a six on a free-hit delivery off Sandeep Sharma to lead the 2016 Ipl winners to a four-wicket victory.
“Emotions turned quite quickly, nice for us to get over the line. Chasing 215 isn’t easy, and the guys contributed all along to chase a big target. We knew in a quick outfield like this we’ll score more than expected, but we had to be aggressive,” he said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 55, while Rahul Tripathi contributed a fine 47, followed by cameos of 26 and 25 from Heinrich Klassen and Glenn Phillips.
“Abhishek started us off, and then Tripathi gave him company. Then those cameos from Phillips and Klaasy. I think you got to...

Jaipur, May 7 (Ians) England batter Joe Root was handed his Indian Premier League (Ipl) debut as Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an Ipl 2023 match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday.
The pitch for Sunday’s match is the one used in Friday’s game, where Rajasthan were handed a nine-wicket thrashing by defending champions Gujarat Titans. Both Rajasthan and Hyderabad are coming off four losses in their last five matches of the competition and need a victory to get their campaign back on track.
After winning the toss, Samson said apart from Root’s debut, the team is dealing with a few injury issues. Trent Boult is not in the playing eleven, with Rajasthan fielding three spinners — Ravichandran Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.
“Conditions also demand the same. Climate has been different. Not much dew in the latter half.

Hyderabad, May 4 (Ians) Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) won the toss and opted to bat first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) in an Ipl 2023 match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, here on Thursday.
Kkr made two changes in their playing XI as Jason Roy came in for David Wiese and Vaibhav Arora replaced N Jagadeeshan.
“We’ll bat first. Looks like a good wicket, hopefully, we’ll post a good score and then restrict them. We’re not thinking too much ahead, we just have to take it game-by-game. We have had injuries in many games, but they’re back now. We’re playing an extra batter due to the impact rule, and need to get those 10-15 extra runs. New Delhi, April 25 (Ians) Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has questioned the utilisation of Umran Malik by Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh). He stated that if the team think tank doesn’t have enough belief in Malik’s bowling abilities, they would be better off adding a batter to the team.
Malik bowled only two overs in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday. He conceded 14 runs and went wicketless. The fast bowler picked up five wickets in six matches so far and hasn’t bowled his full quota of 4 overs in most of the games.
The capitals were struggling at 62/5. Then, Axar Patel struck a crucial run-a-ball 34 and with help from Manish Pandey (34 off 28) propelled DC to a below-par 144/9 in 20 overs.

Hyderabad, April 25 (Ians) Brilliant all-round effort by Axar Patel helped Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad, for whom Washington Sunder was equally good with both bat and ball, in Match 34 of Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Monday.

Axar starred with the ball too as he claimed 2-21 in his four overs and along with fellow-spinner Kuldeep Yadav (1-22), Anrich Nortje (2-33) and Ishant Sharma (1-18) applied the screws on the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters in their chase of what looked like a below-par score. Hyderabad, April 24 (Ians) Delhi Capitals came up with a brilliant bowling effort to squeeze out a 7-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, negating some brilliant late-order batting by Heinrich Klaasen and Washington Sundar in Match 34 of Ipl 2023 here on Monday.

Washington Sundar had claimed 3-28 and three batters were run-out as Delhi Capitals were restricted to 144/9 in 20 overs. Though it looked like they had fallen 20 runs short, in the end, it proved enough thanks to the brilliant effort put up by the DC bowlers.

Washington Sundar had claimed 3-28 and three batters were run-out as Delhi Capitals were restricted to 144/9 in 20 overs. Though it looked like they had fallen 20 runs short, in the end, it proved enough thanks to the brilliant effort put up by the DC bowlers.

Chennai, April 22 (Ians) After being outplayed by Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Brian Lara indicated their new-look opening combination of Abhishek Sharma and Harry Brook is what the team will be fielding in upcoming games.

The experiment meant regular opener Mayank Agarwal was pushed to an unfamiliar number six position, as the new opening combination put 35 runs on board before Brook fell in the fifth over.
“Obviously, the experiment of trying to get Harry Brook up the order produced a 100. If you were saying what team would you have at the beginning of the tournament, if we had a fit Abhishek, it would be Abhishek and Mayank Agarwal. But Harry Brook has given the innings some impetus...

Chennai, April 21 (Ians) Chennai Super Kings (Csk) won the toss and elected to bowl first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) in an Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 match at Ma Chidambaram Stadium, here on Friday.
Both sides remained unchanged for this game.
“This pitch is 50-50 because it is slightly cloudy. There might be dew so it is always better to chase. All packed together on the points table, we need to do well and not look at the table at this moment. Combination-wise, we have been fortunate because we haven’t had all players available. The headaches start later when everyone becomes available,” Csk skipper Ms Dhoni said at the toss.
Srh captain Aiden Markram said there will be the same 16 but since they are batting first here, there will be a change to the XI.
“We had a good game against Kkr batting first, so hopefully we can take a leaf out of that.

Kolkata, April 15 (Ians) England batter Harry Brook lit up Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 when he smashed an unbeaten 55-ball 100 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, hitting 12 fours and three sixes in a surreal exhibition of strokeplay against pace bowling while being careful against the spinners.
Now, left-arm spin all-rounder Abhishek Sharma revealed that it was in head coach Brian Lara’s mind to open the batting with Brook, who had a lean start to the tournament.
“Harry could not perform in two-three matches, so it was in Brian’s (Lara) mind that we will bring him up and I will go in the middle so that I can take on the spinners. Kkr have one of the best spinners, and it was a strategic decision, not a permanent one,” he said in the post-match press conference.
Brook added 72 runs off 47 balls with captain Aiden Markram, who made a 26-ball fifty.
