In what appears to be the first of its kind, Yash Raj Films' Gunday will have a full Bengali song. And we aren't talking about phrases and sentences here and there but a full song in Bangla. Composed by the talented Sohail Sen (whose interesting music was an integral part of Ashutosh Gowariker's What's Your Raashee? and Ali Abbas Zafar's Mere Brother Ki Shaadi) the Bangla song has been sung by Bappi Lahiri and is filmed on Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Says Sohail Sen, "I can't reveal too much about it. But it's a full-on masti number filmed on Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Bappi Uncle has sung for both of them." Sohail whose father is veteran music composer Sameer Sen, knows Bappi Lahiri from the time he was a child. Says Sohail, "Since Gunday is set in Kolkata, director Ali Abbas Zafar and I thought that...

There is a fascinating but little-known prequel to Indian cinema that goes right back to silent films made in the 1890s
In October 1917, Hiralal Sen was sick, bankrupt and just a few days away from death when he received some cruel news. His brother's warehouse was on fire and, as it burned, Sen's career as a film-maker went up in flames. The warehouse contained the entire stock of the Royal Bioscope Company, the Sen brothers' firm, which showed and produced films in the Kolkata area in the early years of the 20th century. The blaze destroyed Sen's films, and with them much of the proof of India's early cinema history.
The centenary celebrations suggest that Indian film production began in 1913, but that is far from the truth. "The history of Indian cinema before 1913 is a fragmentary one, but it is no less interesting for that," says Luke McKernan, moving...

Though only in the industry a few years, music composer Sohail Sen has certainly made fans and critics take notice with his outstanding and unique compositions. We first heard his work on Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s Your Raashee?. For this production, he had to come up with a different tune to represent each of the 12 signs and he did it brilliantly. In fact, we gave the Ost 3.5 stars and a rave review. He then moved on to another Gowariker film Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey and showed a completely different side as a composer. Once again we were full of praise for the music and gave the album 3.5 stars. With each new film he manages to create something that is fresh and also fits the tone and vibe of the film. We hear this skill once again with the music for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, which is a mix...

Rahman in hits like .Lagaan. and .Jodhaa Akbar., director Ashutosh Gowariker has roped in budding composer Sohail Sen for .What.s Your Raashee?. and the young musician says drawing comparisons between him and the Oscar-winning genius wouldn.t be fair..I never had in mind that I will be compared to Rahman. That shouldn.t happen at all. He has been in the industry for so long and I.m just a beginner; so any comparison with him would not be fair,. Sen, who has composed 13 tracks for .What.s Your Raashee?., told Ians over phone from Mumbai..I.m a great fan of Rahman. I have been listening to his music over the years and he is just like an idol for me. He is an encyclopaedia of music,. Sen added.The...
