Ali Larter is the only bright spot of this western noir that seems familiar right down to the cod Cormac McCarthy voiceover
This modern western is a case of Mo’ Country for Old Men, though not in an especially good way. An unusually sedate Ron Perlman takes the Tommy Lee Jones old-timer sheriff role, and Ali Larter substitutes for Josh Brolin in fleeing across the south-western scrub. Which would make Ralph Ineson’s criminal scumbag the Javier Bardem/Anton Chigurh equivalent, backed up by his penchant for creosote-throated, metaphysical ruminations in a voiceover that comes off like dimestore Cormac McCarthy: “People playing us like pawns on a chessboard. But what happens if those pawns don’t do as they’re told?”
With the influence weighing heavy, debut director Naveen A Chathapuram rigs up a creaking jalopy of storylines. Local badboy Jake (Ineson) kills a loose-tongued associate in a late-night diner,...

"Someone else was here?" "Did she see anything…?" "Yep." Signature Ent. has released their own UK trailer for The Last Victim, described as a "neo-Western thriller" about a small town sheriff chasing outlaws. It already opened in the US a few months ago, but why not another trailer since it looks like a solid film. The Last Victim is a small town crime thriller set in the American southwest, following Sheriff Hickey who is trying to solve the worst case he has seen in his jurisdiction, likely caused by a violent local gang led by a fearsome criminal. When a young professor and her husband cross paths with the gang, they are drawn into a chain of vengeance where morality is ambiguous and survival is the only priority. The thriller stars Ali Larter, Ron Perlman, Ralph Ineson, Kyle Schmid, Tahmoh Penikett, and Tom Stevens. This film doesn't seem too bad...

If horror’s limitless capacity for remakes, re-imaginings, and spinoffs teaches us anything, it’s that our nightmares never really change. Since before “Nosferatu” darkened the silent film scene in 1922 — heck, even before Bram Stoker terrified readers with “Dracula” in 1897 — vampires have transfixed audiences with their chilling blend of romance and menace. Movies like “Twilight” and “Interview with the Vampire” are memorable for weaving epic undead dramas for the big screen, but vampire sagas have arguably seen more creative permutations on TV, with whole casts of blood-sucking stars appearing in shows like “True Blood” and “Castlevania”
The best vampire TV shows examine the archetypal underpinnings of the gothic-infused subgenre by referencing them in unexpected ways. Former Disney star Kyle Schmid is doing big things now that he’s left behind his days of childhood acting and moved on to bigger and more mature work. He is well-known for his role in “The Covenant,” back in 2006, but he has not stopped acting since. He’s gone from Disney to the big screen to Netflix, which is almost how you know you’ve made it as an actor these days. While his name might not be nearly as recognizable as his face, he is someone worth getting to know a little better. 1. He is Canadian So many wonderful

One of the buzziest new shows is going dark for the next two months.
ABC's Big Sky, which mostly wrapped up its first mystery with Big Sky Season 1 Episode 9, is taking things in a new direction this April.
Yes, the series is off the air until April 13, but fear not, there are still seven episodes for fans to watch later in the year.
And, you could watch Big Sky online if you're already missing the fun!
The good news is that the series will have a new mystery during the back half of Big Sky Season 1, which is probably a good idea.
While the series has dialed the drama all the way up since its premiere, some of the developments felt dragged out an episode or two too long.
The case involving the missing girls is taking a back seat, but that doesn't mean the search for Ronald is going away.

The past year — and even the events of the past week in this country has been a struggle for a lot of people. More specifically, the pandemic and Covid-19 has claimed the lives of over 360,000 people and there are thousands of families in mourning. They are grieving — and this includes children. The virtual release of Katrine Philp’s documentary, Beautiful Something Left Behind speaks to this exact topic.
Beautiful Something Left Behind was filmed long before the pandemic and debuted at SXSW in 2020 where it won Best Documentary Feature under the title An Elephant in the Room. The drama “If Not Now, When?” owes more to “Waiting to Exhale” than to the women-centric films of Tyler Perry. That’s a good thing, as well as intentional on the part of its first-time feature directors, actors Meagan Good and Tamara Bass. In Perry’s lessons in female fortitude and resilience — a successful brand of melodrama, or melotrauma — the heroine often tangles with a violent, even malevolent love interest. In this engaging debut, Good and Bass and their appealing ensemble aim for something gentler and truer to the ins and outs of day-to-day, year-to-year, joy-and-heartbreak sisterhood.
Releasing on demand and digital Jan. 8, “If Not Now, When?” offers a portrait of longtime, somewhat frayed friendships. It’s not groundbreaking but, written by Bass, the movie serves as a fine reminder of the pleasures of a female-focused story with the stuff of adulthood at its core. Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has picked up the North American rights to the If Not Now, When?, an ensemble drama co-directed by Meagan Good and Tamara Bass. The pic is slated for a day-and-date release on January 8.
Written by Bass, the film follows four friends, who met in high school and are bonded by an event, are suddenly forced back together when one of them suffers a crisis.
Good and Bass produced the drama and also co-star alongside Meagan Holder (Fox’s Pitch), Mekia Cox (ABC’s The Rookie), Niles Fitch (NBC’s This Is Us), Lexi Underwood (Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere), Edwin Hodge (Six), and Kyle Schmid (Six).
“Making this film was a true labor of love,” Good and Bass expressed. “We set out to do something that most people felt we couldn’t do and the result is a film with a lot of heart and our love letter to our sisterhood.
